Quickly making our way back to the inn, I headed into the kitchen.

“Did you find her?” Moni rushed up to me.

“Yup,” Mama replied, stepping into the room with the person in question still in her hands.

“Ah, Ti. Looks like you found something you found interesting.”

“Yeah, and getting brownie points with my daughter is always a plus.”

“I don’t mean to interrupt your pleasant conversation but I kind of need to,” I interjected. “Could we borrow a room, Aunt Moni? For interrogation purposes. If you catch my drift.”

“Ah, right. Of course.” Aunt Moni nodded, moving towards the door to the front desk.

“Wait no!” The little waitress suddenly piped up.

She had been silent and oddly smug even.

“Ms. Moni!” She howled. “You can’t let them do this! We have an agree-“

“You messed with the wrong people, Denice. Should’ve done your research before attempting an assassination,” Moni cut her off. “That ‘agreement’ formed between me and your family isn’t worth a tree’s root when it comes to these people. One of them is my lifetime friend and lifesaver, the other is her daughter.”

“But-“

“But nothing. You’re in over your head this time. You should’ve thought about who you were messing with. Even if that wasn’t the case, do you think I could save you from an Archduchess?”

“Arch..archduchess?”

“Oh, so you really didn’t know? How embarrassing to think that I had such an idiot working under me. Murua, if you would be so kind as to introduce yourself.”

‘Well, this might make the questioning a bit easier.’

I walked up to the waitress, looking at her squarely.

“Alright, let's make this quick. Forgive me for not introducing myself before. I thought that my reputation proceeded me. It seems that I was mistaken. My name is Murua Chrysanthemum Amare.”

“As..as…as in-in in-the Golden God -goddess of G-grief?” she sputtered.

“Haah, that nickname is still around…but yes. That’s me. Rather than that who did you think I was?”

“I…I…thought-”

“Whoa whoa whoa. Hold on a minute. What's this about an agreement? And with the clownfish clan? Oh, I get it, you're still pining after Nemo, huh Ni?” Mama chuckled cutting the waitress off. “When are y’all going to start dating…y’all liked each other for decades now. At this point it’s getting ridiculous, I’m going to intervene.”

“W-wait, Ti. Let’s just calm down a minute.” Aunt Moni stammered. “I’ll ask her out properly in a little while.”

‘What’s this? A weakness? I’ll have to find out more about this Ms. Nemo…’

“And what’s considered a little while, hmm?”

“A couple of years…”

“You have a week.”

“What?! NO!”

I chuckled at the two older women’s antics, then an image of Maua suffering crossed my mind, erasing all laughter, replacing it with the burning rage.

“Sorry to interrupt, but I really need to torture…I mean question this girl. And my pupil needs to be helped. So if you could give me the room key and send my party there that would be great.”

“Ah, right. It’s room 26. Second floor third to the right…” Moni responded.

“Right, sorry ‘bout that, Ruru,” Mama replied.

“Haah. It’s fine, I know you can’t help but tease people, but I’d like it if you saved it for after my pupil is safe.”

“Understood.” She responds with a sloppy salute. “I’ll help with this interrogation and I’ll save your student. Speaking of which…is she cute?

“You never change, do you?”

“Nope~”

From there we quickly went up to the room.

The torture… I mean questioning when pretty smoothly.

The clownfish girl was all but willing to spill her intentions after finding out who we were.

No torture was necessary.

To be frank, I was disappointed when I learned why she did it. I actually wished that she withheld the information so I could release some of my pent-up anger. Instead, the flames of my rage were fanned.

There was no political assassination attempt.

No deeper motive behind her actions whatsoever.

It was all because of that bumbling idiot Joe.

Apparently, he and little Ms. Denice here, have an off and on type of relationship of sorts.

Things would be going well, and then he would just break up with her abruptly.

After a couple of times going through the motions of breaking up and getting back together, Denice started to investigate, Eventually, she stumbled across Joe clinging on to me.

From there she jumped to some conclusions. She started believing that I was Joe’s out-of-town lover and that we hooked up whenever I came around.

She came to accept that. She was okay with Joe being with someone else sometimes, as long as he was happy.

That belief shattered today when she saw me boot the trash man into the open ocean.

She felt angry that I was mistreating Joe. She also felt envious that the man loved me so much.

One thing led to another, and she concocted a plan. Thinking that I wasn’t the real Murua, she doused my entire party’s food with poison, believing that she would be able to take us all out.

Obviously, that failed.

I felt the need to facepalm through her story, and by the end of it, I gave in to the urge.

“You know, Denice. Honestly, I almost feel for you. If you didn’t try to kill me or the people important to me, I would probably feel bad for you.  But let me clear something up. You were wrong, Joe and I were never anything. Never will be anything. The guy is a piece of garbage. If you survive today, I’d advise you to move on. There’s plenty of fish in the sea. You deserve better than that, everyone does. Also, maybe next time confront someone before moving straight on to poison? That's if you survive. Otherwise take it as advice for your next life.”

“Understood, ma’am. And it’s if I survive today? Is it undecided?” She asked nervously.

“Yeah. I figure I’d leave it up to the person you harmed.” I replied, looking over at the girl in question.

Sometime during the questioning, the party came up and laid my pupil out on the bed.

My mama quickly got to work, forcing the poison out of the little girl’s system. All the while she gushed about the cuteness of my pupil and lamented that my sister should’ve been here to take out the poison.

I breathed a sigh of relief when my little student’s body relaxed, no longer ravaged by the pain.

Only then did I realize how angry I truly was.

I don’t think I had been this angry since I got news of that day.

Maua woke up a few minutes later, only to be assaulted by the two cutie-chasers.

Like grandmother like granddaughter. Although in this case, I think that most people would take the opportunity to pamper her, she’s that cute.

Nonetheless, after Mama got introduced, and the duo got their fill of ‘Mauaium’, the little doll turned to face me.

“M-master,” she called out, voice quivering.

“It’s okay,” I soothed, striding over to the bed, and rubbing her head. “Master’s here. You’re fine.”

“I thought, I thought I was going to die again!” She shouted, holding back the tears. “But something told me that you’d save me. It was right.”

‘She said die again? Interesting….Well, anyways, I’ve decided.’

“I know we haven’t known each other long, but it feels like I’ve always known you, Master. I’m sorry for assuming you were a scary evil lady. I’ll put my faith into you for now on, I swear.”

‘She’s starting to ramble. She must be still shaken up. For some reason, I feel the same now. I feel like I’ve known her forever. I don’t want to lose her. So, I’ll protect this girl at all costs. ‘
