A Contractual Marriage with the Best Leading Actor Chapter 130

Peng Wanli (1)

President Pei was someone who pursued flawlessness in all things he did. He wasn’t sure why Xi Chengyun wanted to find President Peng. So, after searching through President Peng’s circle of friends, he picked one of them that he knew and gave them a call. He asked the person to hold an impromptu gathering.

President Peng couldn’t believe his ears when he received the phone call from the person.

“It’s New Year’s Day! I need to visit my in-laws!” President Peng frowned and said.

The person on the other end of the phone listed a few names of the people who’d be joining and said, “This is a private gathering, and it’s up to you to decide whether you’ll be joining us.”

“Pei Xing will be there too?” Peng Wanli asked in astonishment.

“Mn. Haven’t you been going on and on about how property development is not a good business these days? You should take this opportunity to save your company,” the person laughingly said.

Peng Wanli immediately made up his mind to join them. “I’ll head over now, where’s the gathering?”

The man had expected that reply and he smirked as he read out the address to him.

After Peng Wanli got off the call, he immediately went to put on the most expensive suit he had that he was rarely willing to wear.

How the heck can such a flimsy piece of cloth cost a few million?

He had to dress presentably because back then, he hadn’t managed to secure any connections when he attended the engagement ceremony of the Jiang family’s son, so he had to get something today.

Peng Wanli looked in the mirror, grabbed his briefcase, and drove himself there. He couldn’t even be bothered to ask for his driver, nor did he care about leaving his wife and children at home on the first day of the New Year.

Most of the guests were already there when Peng Wanli arrived.

They were having dinner in a small garden.

A horse range and shooting area could be seen beyond the garden fences.

“Why are you late? Hurry up, even President Pei is here. Come, give a toast to President Pei,” someone in the crowd said.

President Pei is a young man in his thirties. He was dressed in a Polo shirt, which made him seem particularly laid-back in comparison to the rest. The car keys in front of him showed that he had driven an Aston Martin sports car to the gathering.

He was born into an extremely wealthy family, whose riches accumulated generations ago.

Peng Wanli never thought that he would have had a chance to meet someone like him.

President Pei gave a fake smile as he took a glance at Peng Wanli. “Have a seat.”

Peng Wanli hurried to take a seat before he raised his glass and chugged down the cup of white wine.

Others around him told him to have more glasses.

“Bah, fine, I’ll have three cups to serve as punishment,” Peng Wanli said as he chugged down another two glasses of wine.

His throat, eyes, and stomach were burning when he was done.

‘But it’ll all be worth it…’ Peng Wanli thought.

Ten years ago, he thought that he would be able to become rich. Yet, he’d waited for so many years, and till this day, he was merely the CEO of a construction company.

Isn’t this finally his chance to shine?

Xi Chengyun and Bai Qi arrived halfway through the gathering.

Bai Qi looked up at the signboard and realized that they’d arrived at an exclusive club. He’d heard of this club before and knew that there was a golf course, a spa, billiard tables, a private cinema, and even a shooting range inside.

The two of them heard a small clicking sound once they entered the vicinity.

None of them turned to look because they knew it was the reporters.

On the other hand, President Pei lit a cigar while he asked, “President Peng, what jobs has your company worked on so far?”

“I’ve handled the construction of the Phoenix Estate at the Moonbay river. We’ve also handled a municipal project last year, but we were merely helpers for that project,” President Peng hurriedly replied.

“Ah, that’s impressive.”

Peng Wanli has never received praise from someone in such high social ranks, so he proceeded to list a few more projects he’d undertaken in the past.

President Pei found himself surprised. He didn’t expect someone with such a small company to have undertaken a sizable amount of projects, especially since they had only started 9 years ago.

President Pei suddenly turned around and stood up.

“What's up, President Pei?”

President Pei then called out to someone he saw, “Xi-ge. “

Everyone froze and turned to look in that direction.

Xi Chengyun was dressed in a light blue cashmere coat. He was walking towards them with someone next to him, someone whom he was holding hands with. That person was dressed in a white coat and a khaki scarf. He was extremely good-looking, like marshmallows topped with chocolate syrup.

President Pei put on an act and said, “What a coincidence, Xi-ge! What brings you here?”

Xi Chengyun smiled at him.

‘He’s still got a long way to go if he wants to be as good as me at acting,’ Bai Qi thought.

Xi Chengyun pinched Bai Qi’s arm and said, “To accompany him while he has a little fun.”

Bai Qi was startled at first before he relaxed and left Xi Chengyun to do what he wanted to.

President Pei hurried to address Bai Qi as he frantically put out his cigar. “Happy New Year, sister-in-law. Here, come and have a seat. What would you like to try? It’s all on me.”

Xi Chengyun finally brought Bai Qi over when the cigar was no longer lit.

The quick-witted waiter added two chairs to the table.

President Pei wanted to get a drink for Bai Qi. “Would you like some milk or juice? I don’t think I can get you any alcohol, Xi-ge will kill me,” he stated.

“Orange juice sounds good,” Bai Qi replied.

President Pei continued, “How about you, Xi-ge?”

The smell of alcohol was overpowering when Bai Qi looked down at the messy table covered in bottles of alcohol. He didn’t like to drink because he didn’t think that anything good would come out of getting drunk. He didn’t give it a second thought before he said, “He’ll have a cup of juice, too.”

Xi Chengyun nodded and said, “Mn, whatever he says.”

President Pei was beaming from ear to ear. “Great.”

Then, he had the server fetch the drinks for them.

The rest unknowingly fixed their postures and sat up straight.

It was a natural reaction to signify respect.
