"I'm bored."

That was the first thought that came to Shiro’s mind after he waited for 2 straight days. In those 2 days, he did nothing but go to the lounge, sleep, and eat. That, and his daily practice regarding his spells and Thaumaturgy.

He never moved much from his truckk as he didn't want to cause unnecessary trouble to himself. Knowing that the borders are more complex than he thought thanks to Kal'tsit, he waited here obediently.

He was about to test his Thaumathurgy again when he saw a huge van coming from behind. At that instant, a prompt popped up in front of him, marking the third quest that he had received since he woke up.

[Official Quest: Exterminate Balrog IV]

Details: Rhine Lab's Energy Section Director, Ferdinand Clooney, gave a certain vial to Edwin upon seeing his intent to go against the former dame of Ursus. That vial being an experimental product, it is given with the purpose of acquiring more perimeters for the future project codenamed "Ifrit".

Objective: Kill the balrog replica.

Reward/s: 7,500 Soul Points, Fusion Function (System), 3 Archive Sigil

"She's finally here."

Edwin looked at the rusty short sword in his hand with complex emotions. It was something passed on by his grandfather to his father on his deathbed. Since his father died, this was passed on to him.

On his deathbed, his father told him:

"One day, someone might ask for the repayment of the favor that I had. Remember to help them to the best that you can."

He didn't know who that benefactor was, but then, when he received a call from her, her identity shocked him.

Doctor Kal'tsit, a very famous head of the laboratory operated by the Ursus Empire. Due to some unknown circumstances, she murdered a duke. Though, Edwin felt that there was much more in this story just like any other event in history.

“I recall that bounty list from Ursus… They still haven’t removed it.”

With him having not much money, the prospect of capturing her started to take over him. Moreover, he also thought that this favor has got nothing to do with him considering that it’s already been 3 generations since it was made.

In the last two days, he commissioned a lot of mercenaries on the border in an attempt to capture her. The bounty offered alone is enough for a normal family to spend for 7 generations.

What’s more, the reward can be exchanged in any currency, hence the greater the temptation.

"You said she'll arrive today?"

"Soon. Just do your job and we'll split the reward into equal parts."

"Fine. If we find out that you're tricking us..."

A large black van appeared in their sight, inducing Edwin's delight.

"It's her."

He heard the leaders of each mercenary group issuing commands to their members. Not long after, the van stopped nearby the outpost before its window opened.

"Here it is, doctor."

Edwin readied the things needed long ago so that he could give it to them directly. He is nervous, seeing their targets in person, but he tried his best to have a calm appearance.

"Thank you." She said with an expressionless face, making him wonder whether she was really thankful or not.

"No problem. My grandfather always talked about you helping him during those hard times."

"I see." She nodded before closing the window to the van.

The conversation didn't last long before the van continued on its journey. Though, before the window closed, he saw that Kal'tsit is being accompanied by someone. Moreover, even with the hood of the white robe obstructing the face, he found out that he's been charmed just by seeing her companion's lower half of the face.

He stood still and only broke out of his stupor when one of the mercenary leaders communicated with him through a radio.

"When will we do it?"

"W-wait. Let's do it when they're quite far away from here. Some mercenaries might try to make our battle a bigger mess." He said to every accomplice of his.

Looking at the quite distant van, he wondered whether he could have a chance with her companion.

"They're following us."

"Hm."

To this, the experienced Kal'tsit just snorted. During her 13,000 years in Terra, only god knows how many times a humans' greed had she witnessed. That's also the reason why her face became like this; she's just tired with these.

"Let me handle them. You must be tired of seeing these kinds of things."

"You can tell?"

"Well, yes.” Shiro said. “Your face literally screams 'I'm tired of this!'.."

She looked quite annoyed as she heard that. She was about to rebuke Shiro when she saw his charming face and stopped. Even if it’s an old fossil of over 13,000 years old, it didn't prevent her from appreciating his max-level charm attribute.

Shiro waited for a while until he confirmed that more than 2 dozen vehicles are slowly chasing after them. Bringing out a gun similar to an MK-18, he used a magecraft that he received as a reward from the chat group.

Reinforcement.

The use of magical power to push the target's potential to its utmost limit. Its success depends on how well you know the structure of an object. In Shiro's case, he knew it well thanks to his mental power and Gun Mastery that he had acquired from someone.

Due to it, he also knew that the guns in Terra are vastly different from the guns of the normal world. Here, it is very similar to a casting tool. It doesn't end with a simple pull of a trigger. You need to control the reaction of a bullet through Originum Arts so that the powerful force won't destroy the gun.

Green lines started appearing in the gun as the reinforcement took place. He then focused more on increasing its firepower.

The gun became stronger, but he needed to control the gun even more. He used his Originum Arts of controlling hydrogen with a mix of Rune Magic and Mental Power to control it.

Opening the window of the van, he peeked out and pointed the gun at one of the trucks.

"Let the fun begin."

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Gunshots rang out in the surroundings, shocking these mercenaries. They never thought that their target would draw the first blood instead of them!

Bullets rained out. Several of them penetrated the entire truck and SUVs and killed many of them, but some are fast enough to maneuver away from it.

"Shit! What was that?!"

"It can pierce through our entire bulletproof vehicles?!"

"Damn it! Return fire, idiots!"

They took out their bows/crossbows and started to return fire. Though, they found out that a transparent circular barrier covered Kal'tsit's van, which shredded the arrows that came in contact with it into pieces.

One of the bullets hit a mercenary leader who also drove an SUV. The SUV went out of control and crashed into another SUV, creating a massive explosion.

"No, my loot!"

Kal'tsit was quite speechless when she saw him like this. She knew that he was someone knowledgeable regarding things, so his momentary childishness surprised her.

"Die!"

He switched to Fully Automatic Fire, with no more care about the ammo expenses. Originally, all he got from those bandits are 3 magazines worth of rifle bullets. He couldn't even loot much from the caravan before since he doesn't have access to Dimensional Storage at that time, which is generally used by Grand Magicians.

All in all, he has 5 magazines worth of rifle magazines.

The bulletproof glasses shattered even more frequently under his fire. Slowly, the number of vehicles chasing after them thinned out even further.

"Did that guy from the border sell us out?" Shiro mumbled.

That guy is the only one whom they ever met during this time, so it is natural for him to suspect Edwin.

"He did.” Kal’tsit replied.

"Then, I'll have to kill him.” Shiro paused for a moment before asking, “Can you follow that blue-black SUV?

"That one?”

He pointed out to a dark blue SUV in the middle of two other mercenary vehicles.

"Yes, that one in the middle."

"Wait."

She agreed to him, but she told him to wait for a while. Shiro didn't exactly get what is going on, until a black thing passed through the window and went outside.

He was stunned when he saw a monster coming out from her spine. It has a black metallic skin as well as four talons as its weapon.

"I'll let it take care of the rest, so you go after him."

"Alright. But wait, do you mean that I'll ride it to him?"

"What else?"

Shiro was surprised that he’ll be riding this thing. But, he was also interested at the same time.

Swooosh-!

He leaped out of the van and grabbed its back. Using Wind Runes, he made his grasp firmer.

With that, the mobs would get wiped out even faster.
