Chapter 133 – Fallen Tree Zone

Posted on October 21, 2022 by Kangmin

The morning after arriving at the site of the Totoi Temple.

We left the site of the Totoi Temple for the village of Poppo.

Rather than waiting here for the “confirmation,” which we were told would take two full days, we decided to finish our stocking business in Poppo Village first.

Loloi was the only one who was still reluctant to leave, but she still followed us as we began to make our way through Ushama.

“A nomination request from the head of a merchant guild, or ……, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes, but it’s a pretty amazing story if you think about it in the normal way.”

Burgess said such a thing to me as we walked alongside Ushama.

“Hm? That kind of nomination request is common in the Adventurers’ Guild, isn’t it?”

“No, it’s not common.”

Burgess said in response to my words.

“I’m sure there would have been a flood of requests if we were a party of heroes,” he said. “But ordinary adventurers don’t get requests like that at all.”

“Oh, I see.”

I wonder if it was because I former of “Ryan the Hero” party which boasts of our immense fame, was the reason why such requests for appointments came in one after another every time we arrived in town.

But if that’s not the case, what is the actual purpose of the guild leader going out of his way to meet with me, a merchant with no rank, to make such a request?

I can think of a few reasons.

I can think of a rather disgusting reason like: “I’m pissed off because you’re making a lot of money at the theater, so I’m going to make unreasonable demands, and I’m going to destroy the stake that sticks out.”

Or, “I see you’re making a lot of money, so I thought it was time to bring you into the merchants’ guild.”

One day as a grace period for a reply. And another day as a reprieve before departure.

Using that time, I hurriedly gathered information about the current northern village of Poppo.

From the results, I felt that it was more likely the former.

According to the information obtained, it seems that “advanced monsters” have settled on a small island off the coast of the northern village, and because of this, the Todros are no longer able to hunt as before.

I also asked Gandra to gather information about “a merchant with a guild who used to trade with the northern village”.

According to this information, the merchant, named Marcella, was apparently a merchant under the influence of Marcus.

And Marcella is now engaged in the maintenance of the Earth Highway.

This is a project to ease traffic to and from the village of Yak, which has recently been the focus of much attention for its moo moo, medicinal herbs, inns, and so on.

It is a so-called “flowery business” that easily catches the attention of the nobility.

Maybe I’m being made a poor bet in return.

And if I can’t deal with the advanced monsters, I will be labeled as a “useless merchant who can’t even handle a simple job”.

If we were not good enough, the management of the Mistria Theater might be affected in some way.

This may be a bit too self-conscious and overthinking.

If there are people out there who are jealous of my big earning potential and want to crush me, I am sure they want me to fail this commission at all costs.

Since they suddenly gave an unconditional “black grade” to an “ungraded” person like me and offered me a “bronze grade” if I succeeded, it was reasonable to assume that they were behind the whole thing.

But I thought.

Still, I saw this case as a “gateway to fame” and decided to take it on.

The risk of failure is certainly high, though.

If I can pull it off, it will generate tremendous benefits for me.

“Rewards” and “Guild Grade.”

In other words, you get “money” and “power” at the same time, which is a very tasty opportunity.

We are prepared for difficulties.

My guards are Burgess, a former Paladin, and Loloi, a master of the Holy fFst Aluminas.

They were able to deal with the Minotaur, a high-level monster in the Earth Ruins, so they should have no problem dealing with a small number of high-level monsters.

I would not say that they were perfect, but I thought they would be able to handle even a slightly bigger obstacle.

However.

In addition to these advanced monsters, there were many other obstacles blocking our way.

→→→→→

“Albus. What are you going to do with this?”

A few hours after leaving the site of the Temple of Totoi.

Loloi showed us the road through the forest, which was littered with fallen trees.

There were many, many fallen trees folded over one another, just as if blocking the road.

Was it a giant or something that got out of control here?

Let’s take a look around, just in case.

Either way, this is no way to get through.

Burgess and Clarice say in annoyance.

“Yes, indeed, I’m afraid you’ll have to cut it in half again, or it won’t fit in my warehouse.”

Trying to store it as it was, I put my hand on the fallen tree and chanted, “Warehouse storage ilompa,” but the stone was no good.

I asked Burgess and Loloi to cut those fallen trees in the middle.

It helped that I had a spare piece of equipment for Burgess, with no battle axe skills, in my storage.

Loloi was already going around breaking slender fallen trees with his fists and aluminas skills.

And ……

I put the fallen trees that have been cut down to the point where they fit in the warehouse, one after the other, into my warehouse skills.

My warehouse inventory was accumulating wood with names like “broken wood (large)” and “broken wood (?). I was accumulating more and more lumber with names like “broken tree (large)” and “broken tree (?)” in my warehouse inventory.

It looks like I won’t have to worry about materials for Mitra’s wooden dolls for a while.

“Those warehouse skills really come in handy.”

Clarice said, impressed.

“Albus’s warehouse skills are exceptionally useful. If it were Loloi’s warehouse, it would probably have to be a little smaller to fit. And if it were Loloi’s warehouse, it would be full by now.”

“I guess so.”

Perhaps it is due to the size of the absolute capacity.

With normal warehousing skills, even if an item is recognized as an item, it is impossible to put it in the warehouse because it would not fit in the warehouse in the first place.

If only I had realized this special nature of my warehouse skills earlier: ……

Perhaps I would still be in the party of Ryan the Hero with those strongest members.

Burgess and his team kept working, and within half an hour or so, they had cleared enough road for Ushama to pass.

“This is fine for us to pass through, but it’s not good enough for merchants with wagons to pass through in the future,” Burgess said.

“Burgess, this is fine for now.”

“No, it’s not, is it?”

“No, it’s okay. The work I have undertaken this time is for “purchasing materials” and not for “maintenance of roads”. I’ll make sure to report it to the guild later. I’ll also add that we’re the right people to clean up this kind of fallen tree.”

Burgess looked a little unconvinced as I said this, but eventually he began to move forward on his Ushama.

Headquarters of the Merchants Guild of the Western Continent, office of the Guild Leader.

In that room, the guild leader, Marcus, and his secretary, Jahal, were standing facing each other.

“What the hell? The Albus merchant party broke through the fallen tree zone so easily?”

It seems that the fallen tree zone was breached using the same principle as the habitat of the Mashura.

“What do you mean?”

“We have taken the wagons into the warehouse, so all we have to secure is a path for one Ushama. That’s how they got through without difficulty. ……”

“Gunnu……, how much work did you put into that contraption!”

“I had 10 lodgerless burglars grab the money, and it took about a week.”

“And Albus?”

“Reported to have broken through in about 30 minutes or so.

“Gahhhh!!! Then what’s our next move?”

“Don’t worry about that. We have a team of skilled thieves waiting on the scene.”

“That’s right. You let the burglars stay where they are!”

“Yes, I’m sure the “good fellow” is there, too.”

“Well, then, this is the end of Albus! Ha-ha-ha-ha!”

Marcus’ laughter echoed in that small room.
