Master look at all the shops!”

“There’s so many people…”

“It’s because its a merchant town, in fact today it seems emptier than usual.”

“This is empty?”

Its no wonder Toa was surprised. Week is only a merchant town but it boasts a higher population than the royal capital itself. Toa’s eyes roamed around the numerous people in her sight, while Nem’s eyes were glued to the various accessories in the nearby shops. Although this was nothing new for Sierra so she maintained a calm demeanor.

“For now, lets head out to week farm.”

Theres the request to consider, but mainly I was just tired of there being so many people around me.

*

The client’s farm sat on a small hill outside the town. A fence surrounded the property, inside were what appeared to be a mix between a cow and a bison. It was what Toa had been eating since this entire time, I was honestly a bit shocked

“Excuse me! Is anyone here!?”

After entering the farm, we had arrived at the first living quarters. Sierra had taken the initiative to call out but it doesn’t seem like anyone is home. There were no sounds of someone coming to greet us and no signs of movement of someone coming out to take a gander at us.

“There doesn’t appear to be anyone here.”

“Apparently they all left.”

Thats annoying, it seems my shopping will be delayed, if possible i would like to complete the request today. I want to go shopping. Especially since i don’t plan to stay in this town for very long, once this is finished i want to leave. I haven’t really had a chance to get a good look at the town yet but despite the abundance of people and all the shops the atmosphere is quite dreary..

“Master, theres people!”

And then Nem found something. She had pointed to a barn, close by you could see people. We were told that the basilisk lived in a barn, i wonder if thats the one.

“We live in fear everyday! Its unbearable!”

As we arrived at the barn the first thing we hard was a voice filled with anger. Apparently the people who live here were blaming one man. The air around them was tense.

“If we dont do something about that this place is finished! Why not just give up this land?! Youre the one that said you would drive it away!”

“Boris, youre getting old why not just give up the land a retire?”

Boris Week.

That was the clients name. The man in the middle of this uproar was undoubtedly Boris Week, our client. I wondered why the people that lived here were blaming him, although i was pretty sure i knew the reason. In fact it probably had something to do with the basilisk that was living in the barn.

“ Everyone, Please just wait a little longer. I turned in a request to the adventurers guild in the capital. Today they should be coming to drive away the basilisk!”

“ You said the same thing yesterday! How long do you expect us to wait today?!”

“By tomorrow,” as Boris said this several faces fell.

At that point Sierra broke through the crowd, she was quite the aggressive person. The surrounding people were glaring at Sierra who had just shoved her way past people/

“EXCUSE ME! IS BORIS WEEK HERE?!”

Sierra’s voice seemed to cut through the crowd as they all had fallen silent.

“I am Boris but, who are you?”

“Sorry for being late, My name is Sierra, I’ve come from the capital for the basilisk extermination.”
The tragic expression on Boris’ face changed at those words.

“An adventurer!? Thank goodness, Did everyone hear that!? An adventurer had been sent by the guild! We can all relax now!”

One after the other the village people spat out, “I hope so.” and left. What a cold bunch of people.

While that was going on i noticed a man glaring at us while flicking his tongue out. As the man noticed my gaze he turned those dirty eyes back onto Sierra before heading down with the other villagers.

“Stinks.”

Nem suddenly spoke as her nose twitched, her face was screwed up into a look of disgust.

“It stinks? What do you mean?”

“There’s a smell mixed into the air.”

“:A smell’s mixed in?”

What is that supposed to mean? Nem’s nose was twitching back and forth as she searched for the source of the smell.

“Everyone one, thank you so much. You arrived at the perfect time.”

“Not at all, its because of the request.”

“Speaking of said basilisk, how long do you think this will take?”

“ Masamune-dono, when can you start the extermination?”

Sierra again….did NOT call me Nito. I guess at this point all I can do is give up.

Since the hero summoning ritual exists there sound be people who have Japanese-esk names so i doubt there was any need to worry about it in the first place. As long as it doesn’t get around to Saeki and the others i dont particularly mind.

“If possible id like to take care of it today because id like to take a look around town.”

“Shall we get started then?”

“Please wait! You cant just suddenly open the barn! The basilisk is an A rank monster! Shouldnt you try and check it out a little first!?”

Sierra explained it earlier but it seems that the client used to be an adventurer. I see, in the case its normal for someone to try to figure out what theyre up against before getting started isnt it.

“Oh dont worry about it this time, just relax. Masamune-dono is here after all.”

The request was given to Sierra to take care of wasnt it? This person relies on me a bit too much, not to mention that big mouth she has.

“For now can you just show us to the barn?”

“O-of course.”

At that Boris pulled a key from his pocket. It seemed that the barn we were standing in front of was where the basilisk had chosen to take up residence.

“The basilisk is inside but..?”

“Alright I bet its sleeping.”

“Its just like i thought!”

Even though we had yet to actually open the barn Nem was saying something already.

“The smell! It’s the same smell as before!”

“What is this smell youve been talking about?”

“The basilisk! There’s no mistake the same smell was coming from that group of annoying people!”

The basilisk smell?…..I dont get it.

“By ‘the annoying people’ do you mean the villagers?”

Nem nodded enthusiastically.

“So basically you felt something from one of them?”

“He’s a fat guy with a mustache.”

The one that was glaring at Sierra earlier. Although, why would the smell of the basilisk be coming from the villagers.

Most likely nobody but Nem who was a beast person would have noticed. Earlier they didnt approached the barn out of fear.

“That was most likely August.”

Boris seemed to be conscious of said person.

“Who is he?”

“August has been a regular at this village for some time now. Hes a merchant that visits here quite often this being a merchant town and all. “

A merchant with the smell of a basilisk, thats quite suspicious in and of itself.

“Boris, have you interacted with this August person?”

“Yes actually, right before i went to the capital he offered to chase out the basilisk. In exchange for doing that it seems he wanted to buy this land, but i refused. This farm has been passed down for generations, its the symbol of Week, I wont just hand it over. However, the guy is a merchant, i doubt he’s in league with a basilisk.”

As i thought.

“Uhm, is there something wrong with August?”

“Well, i believe he is working with the basilisk.”

“Oh ok….wait, what do you mean hes working with the basilisk?”

It seems that Nem being a beast person was the only one to notice the smell but being an ex-adventurer i would have thought he would notice that something was off at least.

“Yeah most likely the land is the target. Sierra can basilisks appear anywhere?”

“No, they are usually in the depths of the forests, you normally would never come across one.”

“In that case he most likely brought it here.”

This time, Nem being here was a huge help. However im a bit worried because i was staring at Sierra.
“Its thanks to Nem.”

As i stroked the cat ears on her head she looked up at me uncertainly.

“Instead of killing it id like to just chase it back into the forest. Sierra do you know of anyway we can do that?”

“”Lets see to get it to run directly to the forest we’d need to guide it……. What if, we knock it out and carry it there?”

“Alright….Let’s go with that.”

Honestly i dont have a better way to do it so fuck it.

“Boris-dono please move away from here.”

Cliffhanger~!!!!!! Muhahahaha

After the the warning Sierra took the key from Boris and opened the barn door. She pulled the door open slowly to avoid any unnecessary noise, the light pouring inbetween the barns wooden structure lit up the inside making it easy enough to catch sight of the basilisk. And there in I noticed the issue, I pulled my face back around the door and closed it.

“So…. There’s three of them…”

“What!? The request is only for one basilisk!”

Sierra turned a confused look on Boris.

“Boris what is going on here? Did you lie when you gave the request? We didnt hear anything about the number of basilisks increasing. Its going to cause problems if you knowingly lied to the guild.”

“No of course not! Yesterday when we checked there was only one basilisk in there!”

“In a single day there is no way the number of basilisks even increased by one, let alone two! Not to mention that the request’s rank is not incorrect and the required reward is going to increase. Anyone who knows anything about basilisks also knows about their poison and that even a drop is a leathal dose! There aren’t many adventurers who would even attempt a request like this. Even for a high reward, the danger in a request like this isn’t worth it for many of them.”

I see that’s probably why Sierra was so reluctant to accept this request. Speaking of which, I rushed ahead and said i would chase them away before i knew anything about the deadly poison. Doesnt this mean the risk for this is actually quite high?

Sierra seems to be relying on me quite a bit but im still not necessarily used to dealing with monsters so three seems like it will be quite tough to just chase them off. Although if it was just one I’m confident that i could still take care of it somehow.

“ Sierra it doesnt matter. We’ll stick to the plan and just kill them all. Besides Sharon wanted materials from them anyway didnt she?”

“But…”

Boris hung his head, he probably knew about this from the beginning. I dont really want anyone to get hurt from this so I guess I’ll just have to take care of this.

“I was forced to show the request to August, I had no choice but to lie.”

Boris’ voice had an apologetic tone behind.

“I didnt know there were three of them. The villagers wouldn’t wait. If i had known, August would have forced me to sell the farm. It’s just like Sierra said there are no adventurers that would be willing to hunt basilisks. But waiting just wasn’t an option.”

I pulled the snake sword killgills out of my storage, although it felt ironic to kill a basilisk with a snake sword.

“Sierra if i cut the head off of this basilisk will it die?”

“Yes of course but…”

I opened the barn door once again.

“Masamune-dono?”

I can’t use erosion since we need the materials so the only option left is to use the sword.

“Sierra I’ll take care of this alone, please stand back.”

“It’s dangerous for master to go alone! Master is only a healer, a basilisk is a ferocious monster.”

“It’s fine. This will be over quickly.”

When the door opened a large snake stood glaring in my direction, apparently Nem had managed to wake them up. Seeing this Nem fell silent. With Shawn’s sword arts running through my mind i stepped forward.

“[Beast King art: Bladeless]”

I kicked the ground, closing the distance to the beast king instantly. I slid the blade across the basilisk’s throat, due to the unique skill [God Speed] it had yet to notice that it had been cut.

“Basilisk Lvl8 defeated. [Goddess’ blessing has been activated please choose loot.”

There were two remaining, first I’ll take the one on the left. I kicked the air covering the distance instantly and traced my blade across its neck as i had done to the first one. Finally the one on the right, as I cut the last ones throat i returned to the entrance and deactivated [God Speed].

In the instant that i stopped blood flew from the three necks at the same time. The barn was died red as announcements went off inside my head.

“Amazing! Even though master is only a healer, master is amazing!”

“You didn’t need to add the ‘Even though you’re a healer’ part. Sierra lets collect the materials. The tear glands, poison sack and the fangs right? I dont quite know where those are.”

“……..As expected of you.”

Sierra had a bitter smile on her face.

Speaking of the basilisks they only had one skill, but poison was seeping out of the fangs. In other words it seems the poison was their primary means of attack.

For monsters without magic or skills [Goddess’ Blessing] probably won’t be able to give me anything. I dont know for certain but the only skill they possessed was [Heat Detection], all three of them had maxed it out.

“Masamune.”

Moving to dissect the snakes with Sierra i wondered why i heard Toa’s weak voice come from behind us.

“Whats up?”

“If you hadn’t attacked these basilisks probably wouldn’t have done anything.”

“What do you mean?”

“You get it right?”

“What am I supposed to get exactly?”

“They weren’t wild monsters, they were trained.”

“……”

That means it wasn’t necessary for me to kill them. I have nothing to say back to that, I had already killed them. Toa didn’t say anything more.

“Masamune-dono, please leave the gathering of the parts to me. It was my request after all, I can take care of this much myself.

“In that case, I’ll leave it to you.”

“More importantly, i noticed this earlier but, Masamune-dono do you know how to use the sword already? At my home your footwork was terrible but, this cut is the work of a master swordsman.”

Sierra was talking about the cut in the basilisk’s neck.

“Masmune-dono this cut is…you…”

“I wasn’t trying to trick you.”

“…..”

“ I gained knowledge of this sword technique after that day. When you were teaching me I was still incapable of using the sword.”

“Is that so…I don’t really understand but, alright i believe you.”

*

After the collection of the materials the request was finished. Although I still didn’t know what to say to Toa. While Nem’s eyes sparkled at she looked at me, Toa didn’t seem to be feeling well.

“It should be fine now right? Boris-dono said we could take this bag with us to the capital.”

Sierra had put the materials in a special bag that Boris had brought from his home, and tied the string.

“I apologize about the reward, i am not able to pay you any more. If there is anything you want instead…”

After saying that he had given us the material bag. Inside along with the materials was high quality Yowastein meat. It seems that they were bred right here on this farm.

“Thank you.”

Sierra had gladly taken it and thanked him.

“What have you people done!!!!!”

A loud voice came from the shadow of the barn. Turning back, there stood the fat man with a mustache.

“August!”

As Boris said that the man looked up glaring right at me. This guy was August after all.

“Fuck! Those were Gordon’s!”

August was holding his head in front of the corpses littered inside the barn.

“Oi, August, which one of these guys is Boris.”

At that a large man wearing much more armor and clothing that strictly necessary appeared from within the shadow of the barn.
