Chapter 20

Obviously, the beginning of the story was just about a normal plane.

Aisha, who led Levi to a corner of the backyard, even drew a picture with a branch and explained it in detail.

How the transportation flew in the sky. That it was something that many people could ride in.

It was interesting.

It was a strange and otherworldly story, even for Levi, who was less sensitive to stimuli than other people. It was just an imaginary object after all.

Perhaps it was her excellent imagination, but hearing about the plane from Aisha’s mouth made him feel as if it really existed.

Aisha then made Levi concentrate on the moon, naturally continued to chat, and drew the next picture.

He should’ve run away then.

What was drawn on the ground where the plane was erased was two children composed of circles and lines.

They were holding hands and smiled brightly. It didn’t look so bad.

Levi scratched the side of his mouth, then noticed something.

That the plane was just bait.

“….So when it comes to marriage. It’s a very good thing. It’s hard to say how it’s good for you, but it is really good.”

Then, the theme changed like water flowing.

She said that the more they played together, the more they would contribute to world peace.

Aisha was now carefully drawing the two children with a dress and a tuxedo.

Levi, who had been listening with glazed over eyes, reached out his hand casually at that moment.

Hmph!

Aisha, who’d been talking brightly, hardened because Levi’s hand suddenly approached her head.

Levi removed the leaf with care not to touch her curly, silver hair as much as possible.

“Leaf.”

“Oh! Thank you!”

Aisha smiled shyly, as if surprised by the moment. But he didn’t know if she was really smiling inside.

Levi thought as he looked away.

‘…I shouldn’t have done that.’

He shouldn’t have treated her carelessly.

In his 11 years of life, where there were many firsts, it was also his first time regretting.

***

Check the microphone. Coming to you from the maid’s lounge.

From now on, a touching stage for only one person would begin.

“Vivi, listen.”
“Here we go again.”

“Ah, spring. It’s here.”

“Leave when I say it nicely.”

“Spring! It’s here! Spring! It’s finally here!”

“Is it really that surprising?”

“Our! Hearts! They met! Make some noise…!”

I couldn’t believe she punched me.

Vivi gave me a big and beautiful bump, but I would give her a special pass.

Because I was feeling generous today!

“No, it’s warm now, so why are you wearing a blanket?”

“Huhuhu.”

In terms of this blanket, I didn’t like Vivi when she smirked sullenly at me like that.

To be honest, my sweaty back was a little itchy, but the moment I saw her expression, I felt refreshed.

I giggled, flapped the blanket around me like a cape, and stepped down at the perfect time.

“Oh man, it’s already that time. Well, I’ll be going.”

“What else are you going to do…”

“A date!”

With a wink and a finger salute, I ran quickly on my way.

I thought I could hear Vivi biting something, but I wasn’t sure.

“Ahh… Levi!”

We were finally going on a date together in broad daylight.

Once anyone faced me, it was difficult to avoid the next appointment.

What was my secret? Just before we parted, I would shout out, ‘Let’s meet here tomorrow at xx time!’ and run away.

It’s called, ‘I refuse your refusal!’ Levi, who was caught up in the trick, was seen standing far away.

He started to express his heart with the blanket, he acted less cold in front of me.

It was more common sense than I thought, and I felt like a foolish child.

“You’ve been waiting! Let’s go play!”

So, if you could overcame the slight fear imprinted on the bottom of your heart, it was pretty easy to approach and swing.

After running, I grabbed Levi’s hand and led him to the mountain behind him.

As expected, he followed me without any rebellion.

Cute, so cute. At times like this, I didn’t think he was a psychopath at all.

‘It’s not like he could change suddenly, right?’

When I looked back, our eyes met right away.

With a smile, his gaze subtly shifted.

His ears, which were slightly covered by his rustling black hair, seemed to have a light pink tinge to them.

Hmm. Well.

Somehow, I thought I didn’t have to worry.

“You haven’t been to the mountain behind the mansion, have you? I knew it. Just follow me!”

We  climbed up so far on the mountain that we didn’t know how the landlord was, or what could roll in.

The wolves had followed us, but they hovered around without rushing in unlike their usual bounce forward.

After that, a spacious vacant lot appeared.

“Ta-da! This is my hideout!”

Compared to other places, the bushes weren’t as thick, so it was a good place to run around. After I accidentally discovered it, I sometimes spent time here with the wolves.

I bragged, and said.

“It’s originally a place where only the wolves and I play, but we’ll especially invite you, Levi.”

“….”

“Oh, you must be so happy. Don’t mention it.”

The wolves, who were very far away, grumbled that I was very shameless.

Of course, I ignored them and shook Levi’s arm in a friendly way.

“It’s okay now, but I hope it’ll feel more like a hideout. Should we decorate it together?”

“…Together?”

“Of, course. It’s our hideout now!”

When I answered like that, and looked at him, he didn’t seem to hate it as I expected.

Hmm. Nice place, and nice atmosphere.

Just in time, I found a flower blooming at my feet.

Dark red and splendidly shaped flowers that resembled Levi.

Oh, how splendid. I even thought that the God of Timing had saved the day.

I picked a flower, and immediately looked towards Levi.

That was right. It was the perfect situation to fuss over him.

“Look at this, it looks like Levi’s eyes. I don’t know what flower it is, but it’s pretty like you…”

“Poppy.”

“Ahh…”

Pow!

He quickly threw the flower down. He didn’t forget to step on it.

The seeds have to be dried out before they cause trouble.

It had been a while, but the mood had already subsided when I finally returned to my senses a step too late.

Crud, why did he have a good face, but a bad attitude?

After he’d completely stamped on the ‘desperate dreamer’, and hidden it, I changed the subject with a cheerful laugh.

“Wow, Levi knows a lot of flower names.”

“Not really.”
“I think you know them well. What is the name of the flower blooming on that tree over there?”

“Hydrangea.”

Oh. I couldn’t believe he answered right away.

Apart from trying to rouse the mood, I sincerely admired and applauded him.

“Cool. Did you memorize the language of flowers…”

“Shy.”

“Oh.”

I didn’t expect him to even know the language of flowers. I was half-joking.

“Then…”

As I wandered around the vacant lot, various spring wildflowers stood out.

It was time for Levi to answer me like a dictionary when I started pointing to flowers one by one.

“Oh, that’s a forsythia!”

I knew this much.

With a confident smile, I picked up a small yellow flower and handed it over to Levi.

“Now. This one isn’t dangerous, so I’ll give it to you as a gift. It’s to celebrate being friends.”

Levi hesitated for a moment.

Flowers, gifts, friends. He didn’t look familiar with any of these things.

To the clumsy child, I waved the flower at him so he’d take it quickly.

“Do you know what forsythia is in the flower language?”

I asked as I passed by, and Levi answered, as he carefully accepted the flower.

“…Hope.”

***

“What I want the most is still a smartphone. That one thing can do it all. I told you about it last time, right? Just think of it as a telephone, a computer, a TV, whatever you want to call it, all tapped into and ready made. Hmm…? So, how do you make it? Yeah, I told you not to ask such terrible questions.”

While Levi worked hard on a huge zelkova tree, I moved my mouth non-stop below it.

The process of building up the framework of anything was the most important.

Step by step, without hurrying, making it stronger little by little.

So went the building of relationships between people, and the creation of a hideout.

“It’s finished…”

It has already been four days since I’d gone up the mountain behind the mansion with Levi.

Finally, I looked up at the finished result with sparkling eyes.

It should be called the hideout to end all hideouts!

“A cabin on a tree!”

Wasn’t it really the dream of all children around the world?

A roof made of wooden boards, a house with square walls, and a ladder woven with sturdy rope.

The cabin, which was located in the largest and greenest zelkova tree, seemed to have popped out of a fairy tale book.

“Great job, Levi! You guys too!”

The wolves were running around under the cabin, hopping and running, when I pulled out a picnic basket full of cold water bottles.

First, I handed a bottle to Levi, then I poured the wolves’ share in a large bowl I’d brought up here.

Sadly, without the manual dexterity nor the strength to carry the boards and other things, my role was only to cheer and give this kind of boost.

“Thank you so much wolves. Oh, June and August are thirsty. Drink a lot. I’ll bring you snacks later!”

“Awoo Awoo!”

From September to December, the four cute youngest members of the calendar family, hopped around in a serious manner. Of course, the other children seemed to expect compensation as well.

It would have been difficult to complete the cabin without the wolves, who came to help haul the materials from the mansion.

‘And without Levi, it would’ve been impossible to even make it.’

Strangely enough, there was nothing Levi couldn’t do, he even remembered the names of flowers.

He designed the cabin as I wanted, handled all the tools skillfully, and moved freely back and forth on the high tree.

He was only 11 years old.

I knew that munchkins were different, but he looked different in every way. Compared to that, wasn’t I just a chicken?

While I was thinking like that, I made eye contact with Levi, who was drinking water.

I smiled broadly and brightly like an instant reflex.

Levi’s reaction would then be one of two things. He’d look at it half-heartedly, or he’d turn his attention away.

Today, he was staring at it.

‘It would be nice if you smiled back at me.’

I tried to hide my impatience.

Step by step, don’t hurry, and make it stronger little by little.

I understood that the process of building up the framework of anything was important…

‘Sometimes you have to run before you even take a step.’

I couldn’t even calculate the rules, but then an equations problem suddenly appeared, and I was still confused with the alphabet, so I was told to read the English newspaper.

That’s what the world was all about. It couldn’t be helped, even if it was unreasonable. Because time wouldn’t just wait for me.

Therefore,

“Levi.”

I called his name.

He’d be returning to the academy tomorrow.
