Chapter 104: Aspel’s Royal Family is….

ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

“Welcome home, Ferdinand-sama. Welcome, everyone. We all have been expecting you.”

As soon as we reached a large gate,, we saw about 10 women in maid uniforms and men in butler uniforms standing respectively on the left and right side. They all bowed to us in unison. Then in between the line of men and women, an old man with combed down grey hair and well-fitting outfit came forward. He greeted us while bowing deeply.

Wait a minute?! Huh? Fer-san did say the management of the mansion is being entrusted to the servants but I didn’t know there were this many servants?!

“Yes, I’m back. Ren-kun, this is Theo. He’s the steward of this mansion. We leave all the management of this mansion to him. He’s been working for us ever since my mother was a little baby.”

“How do you do? I’m Ren Himukya Cleva. I’ll be in your care on this occasion.”

“I’m Christian Hast~”

“Sigurd Tyselius.”

“I’m very honoured to meet everyone here. I’m Theodore Wiren. Please call me Theo. I’ve been told that every gentleman here is going to be Ferdinand-sama’s family in the future. Please make yourself at home and relax to your heart’s content.”

Fer-san introduced us to that man and I hurriedly greeted him back. Theo-san, just like what his profession entitled, he exuded a calm vibe. His monocle really suited him too. He told us to relax but… To be honest I doubt I could relax in a mansion like this…

“Are the rooms ready already? Chris, Sig, you can leave your magical horse to him.”

“Yes. We’ve prepared the guest room for everyone.”

“Then please escort them to their room. After you’re done with that, please bring them to the parlour.”

“Understood.”

Fer-san talked to Theo-san while one of the maids opened the gate for them. We all then followed suit and went into the mansion. Fer-san then handed Viktor’s reins to another man standing nearby and told Chris-san and Sig-san that they could do the same. It seemed Fer-san had contacted them first while we were still in Pedrel. The servants of this mansion had prepared various things for us already.

“Gentlemen. We’ve prepared adjoined rooms for everyone so please allow us to show you the room. This way, please.”

“Go ahead. After you’re done with the tour, let’s meet up at the parlour to have tea together?”

“Okay.”

“I’ll see you soon.”

After I went through the door, I was greeted with the sight of a spacious entrance hall. The furniture and the flowers are intricately stylized in a way that gives off a calm and relaxing ambience. There was a large spiral staircase in front of us and Theo-san motioned for us to follow him to the second floor. All of us followed suit except Fer-san.

A few maids followed behind us. The corridor on the second floor was wide enough for 4 to 5 people to walk side by side.

This… This is Fer-san’s secondary residence…

“These three rooms are the rooms where everyone will be staying. Our staff are more than happy to show you the facilities in the room. If there’s anything you need, please do not hesitate to tell us immediately.”

After passing a few doors, Theo-san stopped on his track and motioned at the rooms we would be staying in.

I see… So the maids behind us are here to give us a tour of the room…

Apparently we could choose which room to our liking. Chris-san picked the first room while Sig-san picked the second and I chose the last one on the line.

“My name is Cornelia and I will be Ren-sama’s attendant for this occasion. Please feel free to ask me anything you wish for.”

“Huh? Attendant?! I don’t need to be taken care of to such length…”

The maid who went inside the room with me had her long, blonde hair braided back. She bowed deeply at me as she introduced herself and told me she was to be my attendant.

Attendant? What?! Each one of us has a personal attendant?!

“No. Every gentleman here is Ferdinand-sama’s precious person. If you are not satisfied with me then I can change with the other maids…”

“N-No! No! Cornelia-san is more than enough.”

Nononono! You don’t need to change with your fellow maid just for me! Yeah, if that’s the rule of this house then I just need to follow suit, right?

Though it was hard, I forced myself to follow along.

“Certainly. Ren-sama, please feel free to call me Cornelia.”

“Umm~ That would be hard. I’ll do that if Cornelia-san calls me Ren.”

“That…. I deeply apologise but I can’t address you informally like that…”

“See? Then let’s just keep things this way, okay?”

I couldn’t address a woman I wasn’t close with informally like that either. As expected, she gave up after I told her I had the same viewpoint as her.

“Certainly. Then may I start explaining the facilities in this room?”

“Yes, please.”

Then she started explaining all the room’s facilities to me. This guest room came with our personal toilet and bathroom as well as a small refrigerator. This room was a lot better compared to some inns out here.

Of course I doubt all the guest rooms were like this but still… This room was still something out of the ordinary…

“That is all for now. Do you have any questions?”

“No, it’s enough. Thank you very much.”

“Then I will take you to the parlour. This way, please.”

ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

“Oh~ Ren-chan~ Over here~”

“Oh? I guess I’m the last one. Ah, thank you, Chris-san.”

I was ushered to the parlour and after Cornelia-san opened the door, I saw the three of them were already there. They were lounging on the sofa while drinking tea. I sat down in an empty space next to Chris-san. As soon as I sat down, a maid came and put a cup of tea on the table for me.

“This is enough. Please put down the teaware here and leave this room.”

“Yes. Please let us know if you need anything else.”

Fer-san told Theo-san and the other maids to leave the room. I guess Fer-san still used formal language even with his own servants, huh.

“Haaah… Finally we can have some peace and quiet…. Now… Just in case… 【Lock】【Block】”

“Fer-san you use [Lock] and [Block] in your own house?”

Fer-san sighed deeply before he casted some magic. Why did he use [Lock] even though we weren’t staying at an inn? To top it all off, he also used [Block] to make the room soundproof? Why?

“Every personnel in this mansion serves my mother hence every information overheard in this place will be relayed to my mother. I basically always use [Lock] and [Block] whenever I’m alone or meeting other people. By now, my mother should’ve been informed about our arrival…. If this bothers you, how about if we rent a room in another inn?”

“No. It’s not like we’re planning on doing anything bad after all. I don’t mind Fer-san using [Lock] and [Block] if Fer-san feels disconcerted.”

Fer-san explained, he looked worned out. Was that why he kept using formal language even with his employee? He really couldn’t be too careful. He had to drive all the servants out and used [Lock] and [Block] even though he was only talking with us.

“Thank you. This is actually my mother’s other house. I’ve been using this place from time to time since I came of age and became an adventurer but I still… This is why I feel so worn out… I never stay long in the royal capital and it’s a hassle to look for an inn everytime I come here. Managing a house is way too complicated too so I opted to stay in here despite everything.”

“Haah… Is that so…”

Certainly… Since this was the royal capital, a clean and neat inn would cost a fortune. Fer-san often went out for a quest too so he wouldn’t be able to manage a house either.

“You sure have it hard, huh.”

“Even though things might appear this way, I’m still a prince. I’m already used to having people watch over my every move. Moreover, I’m my mother’s youngest child and I’m still unmarried despite my age. That’s why my mother is always curious about the existence of my lover. I relayed the news of our engagement through a letter since she would surely make a huge fuss had I contacted through a magical communication device. I’m sure she must be dying to meet Ren-kun.”

“I hope she will like me though…”

Sig-san showed his deepest condolences but Fer-san actually didn’t seem to mind it that much. Well he had been a prince ever since he was born after all. So he always had someone by his side no matter what? Ahh… I see… Before Manami-sama came and Lily-sama was born, Fer-san was the youngest. He said there was a 10 years age difference between him and Lily-sama. Fer-san must’ve been the youngest for so long already. That was why Fer-san’s mother must’ve adored him more I guess? I wonder if she got upset when she heard the news of her adorable son getting married to an otherworlder like me…

“Oh, I’m sure you’ll be fine. Ren-kun is very charming after all. Anyway, since they’re quite busy, we’ve already decided on our meeting date. Is that alright for you, Ren-kun? It’s on the fifth…”

“You guys are the only ones that say I’m charming, you know? I don’t mind at all. The king must be very busy. I’m grateful he’d spare some of his time to meet me.”

As always, Fer-san was looking at me through rose-tinted glasses. Also, of course they wouldn’t have much spare time, they were the royalty after all. In fact, wasn’t it already amazing that they would actually spare some time just to meet me?

I had a promotion exam on the 2nd after that, all that was left was meeting their family. I guess the first family I’d meet would be Fer-san’s.

“According to the letter my mother sent to me, both my father and brother are curious about you too. Even though they don’t have spare time, I’m sure they’d force everyone involved so they would have time. I’m afraid the meeting will become a one-sided interview against a large group of people. I’ve shown no interest in marriage for a long time and this time, I’m bringing my fiancé with me. I’m sure all of my brothers will be there.”

“I-I hope I won’t let them down… But still, all of Fer-san’s siblings get along well, huh?”

Uwah… They must have high expectations… I hope I won’t disappoint them when I meet them… But still, all of Fer-san’s family seems to be getting along well. I’m feeling kind of jealous…

“…. Since you’re going to meet them soon anyway, I’m going to tell you this. My mother and Mother Esther do get along well. My relationship with my father is quite good too. As for Manami-sama… Ever since Mother Esther collapsed from eating Manami-sama’s cooking, my mother and Mother Esther have been keeping their distance from Manami-sama…”

“What?! I’ve heard she’s not good at cooking but to that extent…?!”

Huh? What kind of home cooking could make someone collapse just from eating it?! I guess that’s why Fer-san had an amazing expression on his face when he told me to absolutely never eat Manami-sama’s cooking….

“Yes. That’s why you must absolutely never eat any food from her. Also… Us siblings are so close in age with Manami-sama so we don’t really know how to interact with her. But we didn’t have any qualms against her so I’d like to say we’re just casual acquaintances with Manami-sama.”

Fer-san emphasized again so I needed to make sure I wouldn’t forget his warning. I didn’t want to die…

As I recalled, Fer-san’s oldest brother was only three years apart from Manami-sama, right? Ah… They must’ve felt awkward… Wouldn’t people get the wrong idea if they got too close?

“Yeah but~ Don’t the royal family have the reputation of being very chummy with each other?~

“That’s… It would cause unnecessary chaos if words about the royal family having a bad relationship were to spread.  We get along well in public. I think my mother and brother are actually quite friendly with each other.”

Yeah… From all the things I’ve heard, I had thought they were quite close with each other but it seemed there were a lot of things going on behind the curtain.

“I see… Umm… So the thing with Esther-sama got swept out like nothing?”

“Errrm… Well Ren-kun is going to be a part of my family and you’ll understand when you see them later so I guess it’s alright if I tell you now… My father… He’s… After Manami-sama came here, Manami-sama has become his number one… My father, the king, he… Only gave a light house arrest punishment since the incident was unintentional and told the public that the cause of Mother Esther collapsing was due to her illness.”

“Uwah… The royal family is pretty dirty, huh…”

“If I’m not wrong, Queen Esther collapsed about ten years ago, didn’t she?~ So that’s the real truth behind that incident…”

I was a little curious about the food incident so I asked Fer-san about it but he gave me the answer that exceeded my expectations. Chris-san and Sig-san also looked surprised, their eyes snapped open when they heard Fer-san’s explanation. They must’ve never heard about this before either.

I had thought the royal family of this country had an amicable relationship but considering how things were going on currently, I really couldn’t blame them for keeping their distance from Manami-sama. Hm~ This was more complicated than I had expected…

I wanted to meet Manami-sama since she was an otherworlder like me but I guess it’d be a little difficult to do so…

“Well… Please do not think too much about it. After we get married, we will stay in Pedrel so we won’t see them very often. Now then, what do you want to do today?”

Fer-san smiled wryly as he tried to change the conversation. But I guess he got a point. We wouldn’t see them much since we’d be living in Pedrell anyway. Well since Fer-san had tried to change the subject, I guess I better follow suit/?

“It’s still forenoon and too hot outside but I want to take a stroll in the royal capital in the evening though. Also, I need to show my face to the guild of this town to inform them about my arrival.”

“You’re right~ I guess we better go to the guild?~ The royal capital is huge so excluding the headquarters, there’s 3 branch of the guild here~ The guild’s headquarter is pretty big too~”

“Though the closest one from here is the headquarters so let’s head over there.”

Yes, yes. The promotion exam would be held on the 2nd of August, which meant three days from now on but I still needed to inform them about my arrival. There was only one guild in Pedrel and Laserna but as expected from the royal capital, they needed more than one branch.

After talking, we had lunch in Fer-san’s mansion and continued our talk about the royal capital in the parlour until the evening.
