Chapter 112: Promotion Exam 6

ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

“Altair, Spica. Come, return to your ring.”

『Uuuuhhhh~ I get it~ Call me again when we’re back in our room, okay?』

『Okay. I will not lose next time…』

At any rate, it seemed the next test didn’t have anything to do with them so I called them back into the ring. The two of them then returned into the ring with a look of regret still plastered on their face.

“Well then, please come this way…”

“……..”

After Klaudios-san said that, a man came forward from behind the examiner’s place. He had a shaggy beard and his hair was crumpled. The upper half of his body remained bare and both of his pants and shoes looked very dirty.  [Clean] could be used by the common people so this was the first time I’ve ever seen someone this dirty.

Judging from the muscles in the upper half of his body, I think he will look pretty young after he gets all cleaned up…?

“I’m asking him to help us with the test. Please treat him well, okay?”

“………..”

Klaudios-san said with a smirk on his face then he turned to the new guy, asking him for his consent but instead of answering, the guy only nodded his head vigorously. His deep crimson eyes looked so beautiful and sparkling, as if it was made from pretty glass beads.

Somehow his dirty appearance looks kinda odd, like there is something just not quite right. I wonder what they’re going to make him do…?

“Are you ready?”

“……..”

“Huh?”

Ready?

The guy then nodded again at Klaudios-san’s question and just when I was thinking how odd this situation was and that I didn’t understand a single thing about it…

“Ugh…. Ghuk….”

“W-what did yo-?!”

Klaudios-san stabbed him with a dagger in the gut that he somehow acquired out of nowhere without any hesitation. And then, he went on and stabbed the guy in the chest with another dagger.

Blood gushed out of the open wound, the sound of the blood spurting out reverberated in this open space. The smell of the blood filled the air, choking the people within. The guy fell on his knees because of the wound and then he was knocked sideways by Klaudios-san, making him fall on his own puddle of blood.

Wha-What? What is happening?

“Now then, Ren Himukya Cleva. Your last test is to heal this guy. If you’re not quick about it…. Let’s see… A normal guy should be dead in under 10 minutes I guess?”

Huh?! Just what is Klaudios-san talking about?! What kind of a test is this?! B-but if no one helps him, this guy will….

I looked back at my fiancés, the three of them were as confused as I was. They must be at loss too since if they were to help, the examiners would treat it as them helping me with my test.

But if I just stay still, this guy will die!

“… I will ask you for the details later!”

I glared at Klaudios-san before I ran up to the bleeding guy. I didn’t even bother hiding my irritation at Klaudios-san but I guess it couldn’t be helped when the situation was dire like this.

For the time being, I checked his back first. While it seemed the blade had been stabbed into his inner organs, it hadn’t penetrated through his back yet. Slowly, I turned him to lay on his back again.

Ahhhh… He’s bleeding a lot!

The ground began to turn red from the blood flowing from his chest and stomach. With a wound this severe, I needed to choose my priority right. Which wound I needed to heal first, the one on his stomach or the one in his chest.

The first one is… The one on his left chest first I think. If the dagger had gone through his heart…. No, if it did, he’d be dead instantly. So I’m sure the dagger hadn’t gone that deep yet…

I was feeling confused because I had never done anything like this before but everyone around me didn’t do anything but watch me…

“Umm… I don’t know your name but can you hear me? I’m going to heal the wound on your chest first! I’m going to pull the dagger slowly, it might hurt but… I don’t want to make you bleed anymore than this so I hope you can refrain from moving as much as possible… Sig-san, please hold both of his hands over his head. Fer-san, please hold his right leg. Chris-san, please take his left right. The three of you, please pin him down! Make sure he won’t be able to move!”

I wasn’t really sure if he was still conscious or not. He was in a delicate state after all. But I still talked to him just in case.

“Huh…?”

“Forget about the test for now! Come quick!”

“Okay!”

“I understand.”

“Yessir~”

The three of them listened to my wish and went on to pin the guy down with their body weight.

It’d be dangerous if he were to move because of the pain when I took the dagger out. That was why I asked Sig-san, who had the most brute strength, to hold his hands while Fer-san and Chris-san each held one of his legs.

If I were to fail the exam because they were helping me then so be it. It would be too cruel if this guy were to die just because I was afraid I wouldn’t pass the exam. I wouldn’t be feeling this way if the one dying before me was a bandit. I guess the reason why I was feeling so frustrated with this situation was because I didn’t want him to die because of my exam.

“Ah… That’s right… Listen, I’m going to cast some magic to numb the pain and stop the bleeding.”

“Ugh…”

“【Paralyze】【Hemostasis】”

When I spoke to him, he slightly nodded so I used [Paralyze] while imagining numbing his pain and then I used [Hemostasis] while imagining stopping the flow of his bleeding.

Okay, I think it worked.

The wound on his chest had stopped bleeding so I applied the same magic on his stomach too.

For the time being, I think I’ve managed to stop him from bleeding to death? Okay… Now I need to pull these daggers slowly…. Huffff…. Here I go!

I took a deep breath to psych myself up.

“Everyone, please hold on tight!”

“Uff- Ghuk-!”

After giving one last warning to the three of them, I grabbed the dagger that was stuck in his chest and slowly pulled it out. The guy then started to twitch and groaned.

As I feared, maybe I’m making a new cut by moving the dagger?

“Uugh… Arghhh….”

I was pulling it out slowly and carefully but he kept on groaning everytime the dagger moved.

Doing it like this will only drain his energy….

“As I feared. The more I move it, the more it hurts…. 【Hemostasis】! I know it’s going to be hard on you but I’m going to pull it all out in one go!”

And so, I decided to just pull it all in one go.

“Uugh…. F-Ahhh!!”

Ahhh! I hate this feeling! The feeling of cutting through meat!!

With a deep crease between my eyebrows, I pulled the dagger out of him.

“Okay! I’ve pulled it out. I’m going to heal your chest first. 【Heal】!”

I threw the dagger behind my back and started to cast [Heal] on him. He might be suffering from blood loss but we would get to that later. I needed to close his wound first. I stared at his right chest, which was perfectly fine without any wound and looked back at the wound on his left chest. I used those visuals as food for my imagination. Though slow, his wound was starting to close little by little.

Due to how sharp the dagger was, he managed to get away with a clean cut. Perhaps you could say this was a blessing in disguise.

“Ren-chan~ You did good on choosing to heal that wound first~ The wound on his stomach looks more severe on a first glance but the dagger actually didn’t hit any of his vital organs. I expect nothing less from someone who’s here to represent their country~”

“Yeah… Pretty sure this guy is going to make it.”

“I wonder if our help will affect Ren-kun’s promotion exam…?”

“Even if we did, I’m sure our Ren-chan is going to hate us if we didn’t jump in to help him, you know?~”

“Right on. I don’t give a damn whether this guy survives or not but refusing Ren-chan’s request is never an option.”

The three of them were muttering between themselves overhead me but I couldn’t really catch what they were talking. I could only hear some sounds being exchanged between them. Maybe it was because my mind was busy concentrating on healing this man.

“Okay… I think your chest should be alright by now… Next! Ahhh…. Because I moved you a little the blood is…【Hemostasis】! I’m going to pull this one out in one go too!”

I couldn’t hear any response from him. Maybe it was because he had lost too much blood. Just like the one on his chest, I pulled the dagger on his stomach quickly. Then I cast [Heal] to fix the wound.

Ahh… He’s definitely losing too much blood…I remembered the thing about hemostasis from a medical manga I used to read before but… I don’t know how to say hematopoiesis or blood transfusion in english… It might be a little too late to be asking this now but why is the incantation in Alsar has to be in English? Can’t I just use Japanese? Oh, wait! Maybe the incantation sounds like English to me because of the automatic translation feature?!

I mean, some of the buff magic I use here are the terms I knew from the game I used to play… They’re not in proper English at all… I think the main point is, I need to formulate it in something simple and easy. That means, even if I say it in Japanese, the word will be translated automatically too.

“【Hematopoiesis】…. I don’t know if it works or not because it’s happening inside his body… But I think I did it? Because I feel like his complexion is getting better than before… He used to look so pale… Haaah… Everyone, thank you for your cooperation. I think he should be fine after resting for a little while. ”

I tried casting the buff magic but there was no tell-tale light of buff magic being activated. I can’t really know for sure if his blood did increase or not either. But… His breathing looks stable now so I guess he must be alright?

Staring at the three of them from below, I thanked them for pinning the man down.

“Yeah. Good for you, Ren.”

Sig-san patted my shoulder, making me lose all the strength in my body and flopped down on my knees.

“Ren-chan, do you feel tired?~ Are you alright?~”

Chris-san… I’m dead tired…

“First of all, we can’t just leave him on the ground forever. Should we move him elsewhere?”

Fer-san, please feel free to do so.

I wanted to answer their question but after realizing I literally had someone’s life on my grisp, I couldn’t stop myself from trembling. I couldn’t speak either.

Huh? My breath… I feel stuffy…Wh-…Why?

“Ren-chan! It’s alright, it’s alright… There, there… Breathe slowly… Breathe in~ Breathe out~ Breathe in~ Breathe out~”

“Okay, Ren-kun. Your complexion is getting a little better now. Your breath has calmed down too.”

Realizing I was trembling, Chris-san immediately hugged me from behind. Gently, he blocked my mouth with his palm while urging me to breathe along with him.

Oh.. I must be hyperventilating…

After a while, my trembling subsided and I could breathe easier now.

“Wonderful! You’ve done a great job, Ren Himukya Cleva-kun!”

Klaudios-san seemed to have been waiting for my breath to calm down before he began to clap and approached me. I stared at him with a gaze filled with killing intent, a feeling that I hadn’t felt in a long while.
