Chapter 49 : The Reward

———————————

We went down to the first floor and saw Nora-san sitting on the counter meant for people to turn their quest in.

Malik-san decided to wait for us and sat on the table across the counter so we could eat together later after we’d finished turning the raw materials.

“Well then, please take out your guild card.” Nora-san said as we arrived in front of the counter she was sitting at.

“Okay. [Come Out, Guild Card].”

I took my guild card out and gave it to Nora-san.

The other three also followed suit.

Since I was still F-rank, I had a yellow guild card while the other three had red colored guild cards.

Hmm..I wonder whether my guild card will change its color soon?

Then, Fer-san sat down on a seat in front of the counter.

Chris-san and Sig-san were still standing behind me though, would it be alright for me to sit down ?

There were only 2 chairs in front of the counter so I wasn’t sure..

“Umm, is it okay if I sit here?”

“Of course you can. Ren is our party leader so it’s given that you will be the one sitting there. As for Fer, he’s the best one among all of us in paperwork and stuff so he will be sitting beside you.”

Ah.. In short I was the leader in name only huh..

I couldn’t help but agree that I couldn’t imagine Sig-san doing the paperwork meticulously but Chris-san should be decent with administrative work, right?

Well Fer-san seemed to be the best so I guess leaving the clerical side of our job to him would be the best though.

“Then, let us begin. Since this is Ren-san’s first time turning in a subjugation quest, I will explain the procedure briefly. First, I need to confirm how many monsters you’ve subjugated. Since the four of you finished the quest as a party, I only need one guild card as the representative of your party. Ren-san is the leader of Luche,so I need to check on Ren-san’s guild card for confirmation.” Nora-san said as she took my guild card and inserted it into the guild’s reading device. The device was a magical tool used to read one’s guild card.

The card got swallowed by the device and a three dimensional holographic letter popped from the device.

“This.. You’ve subjugated quite a lot of monsters.. Please wait for a moment, I need to check the list carefully.”

“Wow~ We’ve subjugated this much?~ I’ve never seen a list this long before!~” Chris-san said in astonishment.

More and more letters kept on appearing, the list kept on getting longer and longer.

Sig-san and Fer-san also starred on the growing list dumbfoundedly.

After a few minutes had passed, the letter finally stopped growing.

The list had reached the ceiling of the adventurer guild now.

Nora-san took out another magical device, the device was in the shape of a quill.

She touched the list with the tip of her quill and the list got sucked into the quill.

“Please wait for a few minutes while the device compiled the list. The device then will transcribe the compiled data on these papers.”

The quill shook lightly as it processed the data then the quill floated and stabbed the A4 paper Nora-san had prepared beforehand.

Letter started to form on top of the paper that the quill had pierced through.

I was flabbergasted as more and more letters started to form on the paper.

Who would’ve imagined that the quil would thrusted itself into the paper?!

“Now then, I will verify the list one by one. I will also need Ren-san and the other’s cooperation to confirm the data.”

“Alright.” Fer-san replied.

I was so astonished by how the quill pen worked that I couldn’t reply to Nora-san in time.

“Let us start. I will begin the verification starting from the lowest rank, D-rank. First, 13 Giant Mountain Sheep. The reward for defeating one Giant Mountain Sheep is 50.000 elk so you will receive 650.000 elk for defeating 13 Giant Mountain Sheep. Next, 6 Lizardman. The reward for defeating one Lizardman is 70.000 elk so you will receive 420.000 elk for defeating 6 of them. Next one ーーーー “ Nora-san kept on confirming each monster on the list one by one.

My mind couldn’t process the amount of money she had just said, I was staring at her bewildered until,”Finally the last one, S-rank. 1 Redondo Dragon. Since this is a S-rank monster, the reward for defeating 1 Redondo Dragon is 8.000.000 elk.”

“8.000.000 elk?!”

The last reward for the last monster was so unbelievable that I accidentally shouted.

“Well it’s a S-rank monster so the subjugation reward is higher than the average monster.” Sig-san shrugged as he calmly replied.

Eh? I still didn’t think that amount of money was normal though..

“The participation reward for each person is 20.000 elk. The total member of your party is 4 members so Luche will receive 80.000 elk as participation reward. If I add the participation reward and the subjugation reward, in total Luche will receive 11.700.000 elk for participating in Calhea subjugation quest. Please confirm the document once more and if you’re sure there’s no mistake with the document, please put your signature here.”

The reward was more than 10.000.000 elk… What a surprise..

The S-rank Redondo Dragon is worth 8.000.000 elk so if I were to exclude that, we’d still get around 3.000.000 elk.

If half of the reward will go to household expenses and the other half will go as our party funds, we wouldn’t have any problem financially.

In fact, I think we would have too much money instead.

Ah, but we haven’t bought anything for our future married life though.

Still… 11.700.000 elk for finishing a quest… Wow.. I was speechless..

“… Alright, I’ve confirmed that this list is correct. Ren-kun, I need your signature- Ren-kun?” Fer-san called out to me.

“E-eh? Ah! Yeah! I need to sign here, right?”

“Yes, right there.”

The reward amount was overwhelming so I didn’t notice Fer-san was calling out to me. I picked up the pen next to the paper and signed the document.

“I’ve confirmed the signature. Do you want to receive the reward in cash or should we transfer it into your account?” Nora-san asked.

“Please transfer it. We also want to create a party card.”

“Understood. Then I will prepare the necessary documents. Please wait a moment.”

Party card?

While I was staring at Fer-san and Nora-san dazedly, Chris-san leaned down to me and whispered,“Party card is a card that consisted the information of all the party member~ We can use it to pool the reward in single account with this party card~ It’s easier to distribute the money this way hence why the party card is very useful to prevent thievery~”

I see.

It was easier to collect all the money in one account and use it to pay the party’s logistics that way rather than receiving the money in cash and dividing it afterwards.

“Everyone, please put your signature here to officiate the document.” Nora-san said as she handed the paperwork to us.

“Yes.”

“Okay~”

“Got it.”

Me, Chris-san and Sig-san signed the document obediently and then the document suddenly started to shine and floated into the air.

The document whirled around for a moment before the document changed its shape into a card and then a light blue card dropped on the counter with a thud.

“The party card has been created. I will proceed to register the card under Ren-san’s name. Is it alright if I proceed this way?”

“Yes. Ren-kun, please proceed.”

“We’re not going to register it under everyone’s name?”

“Ren-chan, the party card will go into your body just like the guild card. That’s why we only need to register the party card under one person’s name.”

So I’d be in charge of keeping the party card safe huh.

“Please transfer half of our reward into our party card account. The other half will be divided between all 4 of us equally. Please transfer it to our guild card account respectively.”

“Understood. Please wait a moment while I process your request.” Nora-san then started to procure another document when one important thought occurred in my mind.

What if.. What if something happened to me? What will happen to the party card?

“Umm.. Hypothetically speaking.. If something happened to me, what would happen to the party card?”

“Ren, the three of us will protect you so you don’t have to worry about anything like that. But well.. If something were to happen to the card wielder, all of the remaining party members will issue for the card ownership to be moved to the other member.

“Ah I see.”

The card issued by the guild was so convenient.

“Thank you for waiting. Since you requested for half of the reward to be transferred to your party card, the total of 5.850.000 elk had been transferred to your party card. The rest of you will receive 1.462.500 elk in your guild card account. With this, I’ve finished the procedure of distributing the reward for Calhea subjugation quest. We can proceed with trading the raw materials you’ve gathered from the quest now.”

Each person got almost 1.500.000 elk?!

Even though my current balance was only 50.000 elk, I suddenly got a lot of money all of the sudden..

“Yes, please. We wish to sell all of the materials we’ve gathered.”

“Understood. Let us move to a place with a bigger space so I can inspect each material carefully.”

While I was having internal panic, Nora-san and Fer-san already started to continue with another transaction swiftly.

Nora-san took a light blue binder and a piece of cloth from under the counter then she started to walk toward the dining area.

When she found an empty space, she spreaded the cloth on the floor and opened the binder she carried with her pen ready in her hand.

“Please put the materials here.”

“Yes, I will take the materials we’ve gathered out.” Fer-san took the materials from his magic bag out and put it in front of Nora-san.

Back when we were subjugating, Fer-san was responsible for storing the raw materials we’ve gathered.

More and more materials filled the floor until Fer-san finally said,”That will be everything. We want to sell everything so please appraise it all.”

“Yes. I will now begin the appraisal process. If there’s any mistake with the number I’ve declared, please don’t hesitate to correct me. First one, 13 pair Giant Mountain Sheep horn. These horns are in pristine condition if I may say. We will buy everything for 130.000 elk. Next one…”

Nora-san kept on listing all the materials and offered us the price of the materials from the guild.

The one entrusted in negotiating the price from our side was Sig-san.

The three of us were standing in a circle around the pile of materials while Sig-san and Nora-san were negotiating back and forth until we finally reached the materials from Redondo Dragon.

“The last item is from Redondo Dragon.” Nora-san said.

But really, the price we managed to secure for each raw material was really high.

Well there were some low priced materials but the total amount of money from selling the materials was simply unbelievable.

“The condition of the dragon’s heart is good and since this is a rare item, we will offer a good price for it. Let’s see.. How about 2.000.000 elk for the heart?”

“I can’t agree with that price. In a year, there’s only 10 official reports of subjugated Redondo Dragon at most and Redondo Dragon only has 1 heart. What’s more, the heart we have is in pristine condition. I don’t think between those 10 reported cases, there will be a heart with condition as good as this one. I need you to up the price a bit more for us.” Sig-san replied.

“… I see. Then how about 2.200.000 elk?”

“3.000.00 elk.”

“…. 2.500.000 elk. That’s the highest offer I can give.”

“2.500.000 elk huh.. Well… Okay. We can go with that.”

I knew the parts from Redondo Dragon would fetch a huge price but hearing the actual price was a shock for me..

“Let us proceed to the next part. For Redondo Dragon’s nail, we offer 300.000 for each nail. There’s 6 nails so we will buy all for 1.800.000 elk. Then there’s the horn. This horn is beautifully cut from the roots. Since this horn is in perfect condition, we wish to buy this horn for 1.500.000 elk. The next horn is cut in half so we will offer 750.000 elk for that and the last one.. This horn is a little disintegrated. We will buy the last horn for 500.000 elk. That’s our offer for Redondo Dragon’s part. Is there any objection?”

“Hmm… It’s a fair price I guess.”

“Understood. This will conclude our negotiation for trading the raw materials. I will calculate the total sum of our transaction. Please wait a moment.” Nora-san said as she wrote the last purchase list on her binder.

Seemed like her binder was a magical device as well.

The list she wrote on the binder could be calculated automatically I guess.

“You see? As expected, the horn that I cut fetched the highest price. It’s because I put a lot of thought before I act so the horn could be beautifully cut.”

“Huh? What are you talking about? At that time, let alone the materials, we were busy trying to fight for our lives!”

“That’s right! Well I do agree that crushing the horn into pieces was not the best course of action though..”

“Fer…How dare you say something like that??”

Because of Fer-san’s careless remark, the three of them started to bicker with each other.

In any case, subjugating the S-rank monster was really profitable huh.

The money we received from Redondo Dragon alone was almost 15.000.000 elk.

As expected from S-rank monster!

The money really couldn’t be compared to a lower rank monster!

“Thank you for waiting. The total becomes 8.680.000 elk. If there’s no objection with the total amount please put your signature here.” Nora-san pointed to the bottom corner of the paper she offered to us.

Chris-san skimmed through the paper before he put his signature on.

Seemed like for legalizing the purchase, any party member’s signature was fine.

“Thank you. Then as per according to the previous agreement, I will transfer half of the money to your party card account. The rest will be divided equally and transferred to everyone’s guild card account. Will that be alright?”

“Yup!~ Please proceed accordingly!~”

“Understood. We will transfer the money to the accounts specified. Hugo-san, Tord-san, I will give the rest to you two.”

“Yeah. Tord, let’s put the materials into the guild’s magic bag and store them in the warehouse.”

“Roger that!”

Turned out, Tord-san and Hugo-san were already standing near us without me noticing.

The two of them then started to toss the materials into the magic bag while Nora-san returned to the counter to process the money transfer.

Right when Tord-san and Hugo-san finished putting all the materials away, Nora-san returned.

“I’m sorry for the delay. I’ve transferred 4.340.000 elk into your guild card account and 1.085.000 elk into each one of Luche member’s accounts as payment for the raw materials. As the representative of the guild, I want to thank you for participating in Calhea subjugation quest and for selling the raw materials to us. We hope to work with you again in the future. Thank you.” Nora-san bowed and handed the cards to us.

I took the card and bowed back at Nora-san while replying,“Ah! The pleasure is mine! Thank you, Nora-san!”

I returned both my guild card and party card using [Card Return] before I misplaced the card elsewhere.

After that, the four of us took a seat on Malik-san’s table who had been waiting for us.

“Each and every one of you have worked hard for the past few weeks huh. So what do you think, Ren? As you can see, money is not going to be a problem if you marry them. These guys are pretty promising as husbands, right?”

“Malik-san.. I don’t think money is the only criteria to become a good husband.. Well realistically speaking I do need money to survive so I’m grateful that our income seems to be good enough.”

Certainly the income of these three potential husbands was very good.

Good enough that I think I wouldn’t have any financial problems in the future.

I wasn’t that naive enough to think that I could live as long as I have ‘love’ between us.

If we didn’t have money, we couldn’t eat.

Money was definitely important.

After finishing just one subjugation quest, we’ve acquired over 10.000.000 elk for our household expenses only.

With this amount of money, I wonder how many years I could live without working?

Ah right!

The party card was in my name and I was responsible for keeping it safe so did it mean I needed to be in charge of our household expenses too?

Well, I knew I would be in charge of our meal though.

Also, I think it’d be better if we have separate accounts for our savings.

I wonder if we could issue a card for our savings account?

After all, the future was not definite.

Since being an adventurer is a dangerous job, we might get hurt in the future and need to retire sooner than expected.

It wouldn’t hurt to have a saving for our future.

“Ah that’s right. Ren, what about your rank? For now, you have been approved to B-rank but let’s take a look at your card for sure.” Malik-san said.

“Okay. [Come Out, Guild Card].”

I wonder what he means by ‘for now’?

“See? Congratulations for becoming a B-rank adventurer, Ren. We will talk about becoming A-rank later in my house over a drink later.”

“Thank you, Malik-san!”

My yellow guild card turned blue because I’d become a B-rank adventurer.

Suddenly my rank increased considerably…

“Then let’s go home. You guys also come with us. Let’s have a drink together.”

“Umm.. But.. Malik-san, after this I want to go to the jewelry store with the others.. And furthermore, are you sure you want to drink now? It’s not evening yet! We haven’t even eaten lunch yet!” I replied hastily.

I’ve already promised them that we would go to the jewelry store together and the sun was still high up in the sky!

I don’t think it’s appropriate to have a drink at this time of the day.

“Ah? Lunch? Ah, right.. Lunch. Then let’s have lunch together first and then we will drink afterwards. If I want to drink, I will drink no matter whether it’s evening or day. You can go to jewelry tomorrow. Come, Ren. Let’s go.”

“….Ah.. Okay.”

So our trip to the jeweller will be postponed then.

I looked up to my side and saw the other three were having resigned looks on their faces as well.

Tomorrow then!

Tomorrow we will go to the jewelry store for sure!

I clenched my fist to myself before we started to return home together.

Nora’s POV

After seeing Ren-san and the others off, I went on to continue with my daily duties.

My work station was right in front of the dining area so I could see the other adventurer mingling and eating together.

“Oi, did you see that? They were selling materials from Redondo Dragon!”

“Furthermore, those three are in the same party..”

“From F-rank rising to B-rank in one go.. Damn..”

The other adventurers who had seen Ren-san’s transaction were talking amongst themselves now.

Suddenly, an adventurer was leaning his elbow against the counter I’m working at and asked, “Hey, Nora-chan. Is it true that Ren is leeching off those three A-rank adventurers to increase his own rank?”

“That’s not true. According to the guild’s staff that managed the Calhea quest, Ren-san was the one that successfully inflicted ‘Sleep’ and ‘Roots’ to the Redondo Dragon, minimizing the damage from the said monster and giving a chance for his party to deal the finishing blow. Thanks to Ren-san’s clever tactics, his party managed to subjugate the Redondo Dragon successfully.” I answered matter of factly.

“Wow… For such a small guy, Ren sure got some skill in him huh. Then, is it true that Ren is engaged with those three?”

“Yes, the three of them are Ren-san’s fiance.”

“Oh? Well Ren is super cute so I’m not surprised there.”

I couldn’t agree more with him.

Even though I’m a woman myself, I think that Ren-san’s was really lovely and when I looked at him I had this certain feeling like I had to protect this adorable creature in front of me.

I honestly thought that Ren-san was truly incredible, he was able to seize the heart of not just one, but three high quality suitors.

“You know, I think Ren’s rank will keep rising to A-rank soon enough.”

“Oh! If Ren becomes A-rank, will he have a nickname then?”

“Something along the way like ‘princess’ or ‘fairy’ will suit him.”

“Or ‘flower’! There’s so many possibilities huh.”

Nickname huh..

Hmm.. I do agree that a gentle and sweet name will suit Ren-san more.

All these time, I didn’t have many opportunities to interact with Ren-san but I think from now on, I’d have more opportunities to talk with Ren-san and get to know him more.

I nodded to myself as I continued with my daily duties.
