Chapter 65 : Getting Ahold of Their Stomach
————————————–

“Then can I ask you to design something like this?”

“Yeah.Leave it to me! I will make some corrections here and there so just make sure you guys will drop by often, yeah?”

The master carpenter from the carpenter’s shop that Ali-san introduced to us was working on the design of our house. He took notes on what we wanted to have in our house like the general layout that we had in mind.. He also asked us some questions like how many kids rooms do we need. Thanks to his thorough planning, we managed to finish the rough design of our house in one day despite having a lunch break in the middle. After that, we only needed to discuss the fine details of the whole design.

“We’re counting on you~”

“We look forward to working with you.”

“We’ll see you guys in a few days I guess.”

The carpenters saw us off as we left the shop. I was holding onto Fer-san’s left hand while Chris-san and Sig-san were walking behind us. I always wondered, did they already make a rule that I had to hold hands with one of them while we walked? They usually just held my hand without saying anything so I couldn’t refuse them but… I actually didn’t really mind holding hands with them though.

“I didn’t think we’d be talking with them this long today. It’s already late, shall we head home now, Ren-kun?”

I looked up to see Fer-san had a bright smile on his face as we walked back home.

“Yes. But… Do we really need that many children’s rooms…?”

The children’s room… There were five of them…

The first thing that came to my mind was ‘I had to give birth to 5 children?!’ but they said I didn’t need to worry about that. Though in the first place, it felt a little weird to be talking about children when we haven’t gone all the way yet…

“Well it’s not like you really need to actually have 5 childrens you know? We can still use it as a storage room. Though even if we ended up having 5 childrens, we can definitely support them so don’t worry, okay?”

“Haah… You’re right but… The servant’s room also…”

I was told that we needed to have one room for the servant and it was already incorporated in our current floor plan.

“Ren-chan, you have no plan in quitting as an adventurer, right? Then we’re going to need a room for someone to look after the children when we’re gone, right? If both spouses still work as adventurers, having a servant’s room is essential. We need to have one even if it’s small.”

“Welll… I guess that makes sense… This kind of things just feel strange to me since I grew up in a different environment than you guys…”

Since I had gone through all those troubles to become an adventurer, I told them I still wanted to continue being an adventurer even after I got married. So they told me that we’d have to hire a babysitter to look after the kids and we also needed to prepare a room for the babysitter. After I heard that, I thought maybe I should just quit being an adventurer but since I was a support magician, I could reduce the risk of injury and mortality rate if I go with them. So in the end I decided to continue being an adventurer and accepted the idea of having a servant’s room in our house.

Though I had a hunch Malik-san would immediately say,”I will look after them!” in a heartbeat…

“Ah, right. We’re going to move into our rental house the day after tomorrow, right? Since the rental house is already furnished I think it’s fine to keep it as it is? Even if we buy a new furniture now, I don’t know if the new furniture will fit into our future house later after all~”

“How about if we buy a new bed for the master bedroom? I think that bed is a little bit too small for the three of us and Ren-kun together.”

“Now that you mention it, that bed definitely can’t fit all of us. Okay, how about if we go to the furniture shop tomorrow?”

“Let’s take the biggest bed we can possibly get, okay? ーーー”

The three of them were talking but my head was still up in the sky so it became hard for me to join the conversation and I ended up only half listening to them. And even if I wasn’t really focusing on their conversation, Fer-san was still holding onto my hands tightly. This small gesture made me feel included. I felt happy just seeing the three of them having a pleasant conversation with each other.

“Ah, we can finally see Malik-san’s house now. It’s finally time for me to return Ren-kun to Malik-san…”

“I wonder if Malik-san home yet?~”

“Umm… I believe his shift ended in the evening so he should be home by now.”

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s the case. I was given the shift list since they swapped shifts every month but since I left the shift list at home, I couldn’t check them to be sure now.

“Guess it’s fine if we pop in to say hello. We did make Ren stay with us yesterday night-”

“Really? I was really worried because I had to let my cute Ren stay with you guys, you know?”

“Ghuf-!!”

“Wha-?! Malik-san? Sig-san is getting pale! Please loosen your hold on him!”

As soon as Sig-san was pointing at the house, Malik-can appeared behind Sig-san. Malik-san wrapped his hand around Sig-san’s neck and squeezed it tight. I couldn’t even detect Malik-san’s presence at all. Malik-san really appeared out of nowhere and strangled Sig-san’s neck with all his might. Seeing Sig-san turning pale, I immediately asked Malik-san to let him go.

“Haah.. I can’t help it if Ren asks me to. There.”

Malik-san looked unwilling as he relaxed his grip on Sig-san and let Sig-san go.

“Guh-… Haa… Haa.. Malik…. -san…”

“Sig-san! Are you alright? Does your neck hurt? Tell me where it hurts, I will use healing magic on you!”

Sig-san fell on his knees and coughed violently. I hurried to his side and asked if he was injured. He shook his head in return, I didn’t see any visible injury either.

“He’s fine. I won’t make a blunder by hurting him… For the time being, you guys should come inside. Especially you, Chris. I have something to talk about with you,got it?”

Malik-san said to the three of them. Malik-san looked displeased. Rather, he looked angry even. I wonder what kind of thing Malik-san wanted to talk about with Chris-san? But… Before that…!

“Malik-san? Please apologize to Sig-san, okay? I agree we are at fault for staying the night without your permission but don’t you think aiming for Sig-san’s defenseless neck is crossing the line?”

“Ah…”

We were lucky Sig-san was physically trained but an ordinary person would be strangled to death in a heartbeat! In the first place, strangling someone’s neck was never okay!

When I reprimanded Malik-san for it, his irritated expression disappeared, replaced with troubled expression instead. Malik-san scratched his head, still unsure on what he should do next.

“If you don’t apologize, I won’t prepare you a lunchbox for a while!”

If I didn’t do this, Malik-san wouldn’t be able to see that I was seriously angry at him.

“Eh?! …. Sorry.”

“No-… I…”

Malik-san looked flabbergasted when I said that but he finally relented. He apologized to Sig-san and offered his hands to Sig-san who was still crouching on the floor. Seemed like Malik-san had been honest to me when he said that he was looking forward to my lunch box every day.

“Haa… Anyway, let’s get inside first…”

Malik-san sighed as he led the way, followed by all four of us.

—————————————————-

“Well, sit down.”

Malik-san told us to sit on top of the rug in the living room so we did.

“Malik-san, I’m sorry for staying over all of a sudden yesterday… You are angry about that, right?”

“Ah… Well Ren is already an adult, right? So that’s fine. The problem is Chris. You. If you want to contact me then you have to be direct about it. When you called the guild, I happened to be away that time but then did you know I was ridiculed because Hugo had to relay the message to me?!”

“Eh…?”

Turned out Malik-san wasn’t angry about the sleepover? Eh! But! Chris-san! Didn’t he tell me he had directly told Malik-san?!

I looked up to the side at Chris-san who was staring at Malik-san with a surprised expression on his face.

“Eh?~ I knew you weren’t available but I thought you’d be surprised and worried sick if you couldn’t find Ren-chan when you returned home so I decided to ask someone to relay the message for me. But why are you upset about that?~”

Chris-san seemed agitated from the way he talked… But I do agree that since Malik-san wasn’t there, having someone to relay the message would be the better choice but… Just how did Malik-san be ridiculed for that…?

“…. Ugh… You’re right. It wasn’t your fault. It was Hugo’s.”

Malik-san’s shoulder dropped as he admitted it wasn’t Chris-san’s fault.

“I know right~”

“I’m… Completely unrelated to this, right…? So why did you strangle me…”

Ah Sig-san…My deep condolences to you…

“Ah… I will prepare some tea. Malik-san, you haven’t eaten yet, right? I will make some food then. Chris-san, Sig-san, Fer-san, you guys should stay for a meal too.”

“Oh. Please do.”

Since we seemed to have finished talking, I decided to prepare some tea and a meal for them. If I wasn’t wrong, I still had some ingredients left in the refrigerator. I looked through all the leftover ingredients to decide on today’s menu.

“Allright. For today we have a simple pork bowl along with miso soup and salad.”

「「「「Thank you for the meal!」」」」

It was just a simple meal but everyone looked ecstatic as they began to eat.

For the pork bowl, I had prepared a bowl of rice topped with thinly sliced pork. I also added grated radish on top of the pork. For the salad, I mixed lemon juice and soy sauce for the dressing. This meal might look hefty at a glance but because it had a refreshing after taste, this pork bowl was the perfect fit for summer. I used to cook this a lot in summer back in Japan.

“Ah… As I thought, Ren’s home cooked meal is so delicious… Ah, right. Are you guys planning on taking any quest while you’re here?”

Malik-san who had been gobbling on the food before him said as an afterthought.

“Yes, it’s really delicious. For the time being, we’re not going to accept anything before we finish moving into our rental house but after that, we do want to take something but…”

The three of them did say they wouldn’t take any quest for at least a week since we were planning on spending the week looking for houses. If there’s any good quest laying around, I think it wouldn’t hurt if we take it. But I was a B-rank adventurer now and I could only accept quests one level above or below my rank. In other words the only quest I could accept ranged between A to C rank. I couldn’t take on an F rank quest like gathering lulu grass anymore.

“The timing’s perfect then. Right now the guild has several quests that only you guys can accept. We have 3 solo quests and 1 party quest. Why don’t you guys take it then?”

“We still have a month left before we have to go to the royal capital… We will go to the guild to check the quest before we accept it then. Ren, do you want to check the party quest together with us?”

“Eh, ah, yes.”

Sig-san asked me and I answered out of reflex but… Party quest, huh… I wonder what kind of quest it will be? The solo quests that Malik-san mentioned too, was it possible for me to take it? I had to go to the guild tomorrow and take a look at them first…

The three of them went back to the guild after receiving permission from Malik-san to pick me up on the day Malik-san had a night shift.
