The three of us followed Melchior-san into another room, about three rooms away from the parlour we were in. Five guys were waiting for us there, I guess they must be part of the bodyguard unit?

I felt a little sorry since Melchior-san looked dispirited but eight people were still not enough? Just how many people were coming to Laserna… And I also corrected him regarding my rank just in case.
“Right. I also need to talk to you about that. Including the Madam along with her maid and chef, there will be fifteen people under our guard.”
“So they’re the ones who will be going to Laserna…”
That meant one person got to protect two people… I guess eight people wouldn’t be enough…

I unintentionally nodded along with Melchior-san’s words. They were planning to protect that many carriages with just eight people….
“Yeah. In addition, there have been reports of robbery on the road to Laserna in the last few days. Our entourage might get attacked on the way…”

“Is that so? I didn’t hear anything about it when I went to the guild four days ago…”
Fer-san asked Melchior-san with a serious expression on his face.
“The damage had been done about a week ago but the news had just reached Pedrell two days ago. A request to subjugate the bandit will likely come from Aspell in a few days so I did advise the Madam to postpone her moving..”
With his head hung low, Melchior-san explained the situation to us. Apparently, Francesca-san already knew but she still decided to proceed with the move just as she had planned. This Melchior-san seemed like the worldly-wise type.
But still, a robbery… When we dropped by the guild earlier, we had only asked about the location of her residence and left quickly. It would’ve been better if we had properly asked the guild beforehand. I guess I will go back to the guild on our way home.
“Captain! The Madam has permitted us to use the training ground! …. And the Madam is also going to visit us later.”
“I see. Good job. There’s a training ground in the backyard. Follow me.”
The guy that had left earlier came back with permission in tow. Melchior-san prompted us to follow him and left the room. So Francesca-san was going to come see us? She must’ve wanted to see Sig-san. Between the three of them, Sig-san looked the coolest during combat. Francesca-san would’ve loved to see it without any doubt…
It was only for five days… Sig-san also didn’t seem to have any intention to talk with her so I didn’t have anything to worry about… In addition if the carriage were to get attacked by bandits, Melchior-san and the others would’ve had a hard time so I wanted to help them if I could.
I don’t want someone to die in vain…

“Here we are. I’m sorry for asking you this right off the bat but try it on these guys? I want to see the difference when we come down to it since they’re about evenly matched in terms of ability. You guys, go and have a mock fight after you receive the buff.”

When we arrived at the training grounds, two guys came forward from the lines. Their faces looked similar, were they brothers? I decided to cast buff magic to the guy standing on the right not long after Melchior-san explained his intention to me.
“Well then, I will cast buff magic to the guy on this side, okay? 【Might】【Shield】【Haste】. I think these buff magic are the basics for swordsmen type.”
“What do you mean by swordsmen type?”
Melchior-san asked.
“The buff magic I cast is mainly used for people who focus on physical attack and then there’s the magician type. The buff magic I will cast for the magician type will help them to chant faster for example.”
I explained. The guys that were going to undergo the test looked like the swordsmen type so I cast buff magic to enhance physical attack.
“There’s buff magic like that?!”
“Ah, yes. These three are all sword mages so I don’t usually use that buff magic but I figured I might need it someday!”
There was no need for me to cast buff magic focusing on chanting speed with my usual party member but I heard wizards needed time to chant before they could use their offensive magic. They didn’t need to chant for basic magic but chanting was essential for magic that was used in subjugation quests. I heard the more powerful the magic was, the longer the chanting. This kind of thing reminded me of MMOs that I used to play.
I guess rather than speeding the chanting speed, the buff magic I cast actually speeded up the process of kneading the magic that they needed to release? Hmm… I couldn’t really describe it…
Anyway, with the help of the wizards from the guild, I found out that I can reduce the time it takes to cast a spell by about 30% so I guess my buff magic was pretty useful. I didn’t need it though since my magic didn’t need a chanting process. Because of that, I actually didn’t know when I would get to use it….
“Umm.. Captain, we’re already finished but… This is insane.”
“Huh? What? You’re already finished?”
“Yes. We began the fight as soon as I received the buff…”
Seemed like the mock fight was finished while I was explaining the buff. The person that hadn’t received my buff was laying on the ground while the other person had his sword near the base of the other person’s throat.
“Haaah… Hahhh… Noooot fairr!! Ren-dono! Please give the buff to me too! I want to fight him one more time!”

Feeling vexed, the person who had collapsed asked me to give him a buff too. I confirmed it with Melchior-san first before I cast buff magic on him.
As soon as he received the buff, he shook off the sword that was hanging near his neck. He got on his feet vigorously then they began to exchange blows relentlessly.
“Those guys are almost equal in terms of ability. Every mock battle between them always ended in a draw but to think he was defeated that easily…”
“So? Ren’s buff magic is amazing, right?”
“Why is Sig the one acting smug about it…”
Sig-san grinned at the dumbfounded Melchior-san while Fer-san looked exasperated.
“Ah, right~ I will leave the battle formation and the place where we had to guard to you but can you please keep all of us near each other?~”
Chris-san asked just as the thought crossed his mind.
“Yeah. That’s what I’m planning to do. I’m sure without any doubt that you guys are stronger than us so I’m planning on placing you guys near the Madam’s carriage.”
Honestly speaking, I’d be in danger if we were to be separated… I think I could manage with just [Roots] and [Sleep] but I still felt anxious since those two spells were the only thing I had. I needed to quickly summon a beast successfully in order to have the means to protect myself!
“Since we’re all already here, I think I’m going to jump in as well.”
Sig-san said. He looked excited as he took out a blunt dummy sword as big as the greatsword he used daily from his magic bag.
“You’re right~ I’m training every day but training by myself can’t beat an actual fight. We can use the training ground too, right?”
Chris-san also got on the same wave as Sig-san and took out two dummy swords. He didn’t forget to ask for permission from Melchior-san first.
“Yes! Of course!”
Melchior-san nodded excitedly, his smile was dazzling. It made me wonder where did all the hostility he showed us before disappeared to…
“Melchior-san somehow looks so happy?”
“Somehow or another, A-rank adventurers are admired by people who fight, regardless of their age. I’m sure Ren-kun will also become one in the near future.”
“Just like you’ve said… Everyone is acting like a young boy…”
Fer-san explained to me. I didn’t even realize Fer-san was already standing beside me. The eyes of everyone in the guard tram was certainly sparkling in excitement. I wonder if the day would come where people would stare at me in excitement like that…?

“Of course. Their rank is not just for show after all. Now then, I better get going. We might get bruised later so I hope Ren-kun will stay right here to treat us.”
Fer-san replied. Then, with a smirk on his face, Fer-san took out a dummy sword just like the other two and joined the other in the field.
“I know it’s just a dummy sword but I’m afraid you guys might break at least a few bones. Well, I’m sure you guys know how to hold back so I hope you will only get some bruises at most? I will wait for you guys here then.”
I leaned my back against the wall and watched them quietly. A little farther from our spot, I could see Francesca-san staring at Sig-san. Her cheeks were dyed in red.
I knew she would come.
I wonder how our escort quest tomorrow will go…
