Chapter 611: Day UNKNOWN: Worthy Opponent

A few next days brought me a fight after a fight. I went to every single one of them and ended up smashing the competition. My opponents were basically scared for their lives and clearly forced to be in the same sandpit as me. I stopped killing them though. There was no point anymore.

The difference in strength was so obvious that when the current champion had to face me, he simply gave up his title, and I had a base to move to a better league, which was done almost immediately. We flew with the same small vessel to a different arena.

The news about my crazy debut already reached that place even before me, as even on my way to the new accommodation people couldn't help but stare. The fame of my owner probably also had something to do with it.

Then the Calluding, whose name I finally learned - Yagg - led me through complicated corridors and multiple floors to residential space for the gladiators. Some of them were slaves like me, and some of them were free, but their living space remained the same with one small exception. We all had a small cell with an even smaller bathroom, a single bed frame with a thick piece of cloth working as a mattress.

The previously mentioned difference was that some of us had a barrier preventing them from escaping, and others just a curtain blocking the view.

The slaves were fed two times a day by guards, with the same tasteless grey mush. Free gladiators could go to the cafeteria to eat something better, although they had to pay for it.

I spent there a full day almost completely alone, as Yagg took care of the paperwork for me to participate in fights. So basically that day was terribly boring for me, but the next one started brightly early in the morning when a crowd of guards showed up - which I found quite funny -  to escort me to the arena for my first fight in the new local city league. I was cuffed, and then they even put some kind of suit on me to immobilize me almost completely. I practically had to jump all the way, because I couldn't even move my legs properly.

It was quite ridiculous, but I could understand where it came from. They were simply scared. As Yagg told me before, I did not belong to that place. There was nobody there who could face me. And if not for the love that alien had for his legacy he worked so hard for, I probably would be kept crushed in that tiny hole they threw me in.

My attitude towards the Calludin changed a bit and was in quite a strange position now. I wanted to beat the shit out of him, but I also had some respect for him.

The guards left me in front of a large metal gate, still immobilized. I started suspecting that this might be how my fight will look like, but as soon as they got quite far from me, the whole thing clicked a bit, and I could take it off by wiggling a bit on the floor - which by the way was completely ridiculous. Then the doors opened, sliding towards the ceiling, and a sandpit where the fight was to happen was revealed to me.

My opponent was already waiting there. He was a sturdy-looking red-skinned creature. Around three meters tall, wearing plastic-looking armor covering his whole body. He had a very big jaw with two protruding tusks sticking out of it and a flat nose. The eyes looked human but were bloodshot.

Does that sound familiar? It should, because Mershuk Var'tar looked quite similar to that. An alien we fought back then on Dispur.

I immediately knew that something was wrong. And looked up, on the stands, to find Yagg there, but he was not present, so I slowly made my way to the sandpit, still with my eyes glued to the crowd above, scanning for my owner.

Since I couldn't find him, I focused again on my opponent. He wasn't armed except for a pair of brass knuckles on his fists.

There was a big difference in his posture compared to all my previous fights. This guy was relaxed, not overconfident, and clearly ready to put up a good fight. I already had some idea of what he could do, and actually didn't feel threatened at all, considering the fact that I was ridiculously strong even without my skills.

I started by slowly circling him around, which made the alien respond with an identical movement. We mirrored one another, looking carefully at our bodies, for any indication of the next move.

We had to spot something at the same time, as we pot leaped at one another, clashing in the air. I swung my fist at him, and he did the same. Our punches collided, but he had a heavier weight working for him, so I was actually sent back with more speed than him. He landed heavily on the sand next to the wall, and I crouched down on it, as the kinetic force pressed me against the vertical surface.

For me, it was an opportunity to immediately jump forward with another attack. He dodged and my fist slammed into a wall, piercing a quite deep hole. This created an opening he happily utilized, with a strong kick.

I was sent flying, as I bounced off the curved wall and my body started spinning, but I stopped myself rather quickly digging with my fingers into the concrete, and tearing it on my way, to lose the momentum.

Just as I finally stopped, almost all the way to the stands, and just ran down straight at him. He tried to hit me, but I ducked down at the last second and slammed him in the stomach, which pushed him sliding on the sand.

I immediately noticed that my punch was not as effective as I would like to, since the armor blocked almost all of the impact.. The alien smiled at me with this nasty grin.
