While controlling his urge to thrash Satvik, Haldi smiled and questioned, "So when can we start processing these berries, oh smart one?" Haldi tried to maintain his cool as he understands that he really did need this toddler to help him profit off of this plant.

Satvik again looked at the fruit and said, "Give it another week. These berries will be ready by then for further processing."

After telling him that, Satvik took his leave from Haldi and happily returned to his home. Satvik was feeling content after a very long time. His hunt for spices has led him to surprising results and a new adventure.

When Satvik reached home, his parents were still working on the fields. Satvik took out what looked like a note pad and started scribbling over it.

'hehehehe! We will have black pepper soon! At least now we can have a little bit of kick in the bland food of this world' he thought.

"Let's prepare a list of food that we can prepare with black pepper, salt, butter and lemon. Hmm, simple chicken roast will be a good start" he said while licking his lips. Just imagining the possibilities made him drool all over his list.

An old man was standing in his veranda which was covered in what looked like black beads. The whole floor of the veranda was covered in such stuff, shinning under the sun.

Next to the old man was a kid with gleeful expression looking at these beads. The kid picked up few beads and was examining them intensely. He put one near his mouth, licked it and gave a satisfied sigh.

"Soooo! Does it look good enough?" questioned the old man waiting and looking at the kid excitedly.

"Hell yeah! They are perfect and ready to be used" said the kid enthusiastically.

The old man crouched down, picked up few beads, popped them in his mouth and started to chew. Before the kid could warn him he had already done something he shouldn't have.

"Ahh! What the hell is this? It's like my mouth is on fire" said the man said spitting and using his dirty sleeves to clean his tongue.

The kid sighed, showing his irritation and said, "You really are stupid. Who told you to munch them? These spices are meant to be used as flavoring agent similar to salt."

The man was almost in tears. Heat from the spice at the back of his throat was too much for him. Satvik was used to the flavor of the spice and still he had only licked the pepper. He gave a not to repeat this again look to the old man and asked him to step away from the beads and have some water or sugar.

The kid crouched and while picking up some beads he said, "Go and fetch me some chicken. I'll let you be the first person to have OG Chef Satvik's first masterpiece"

The old man gave him a side glare after gulping down water. Sometimes he couldn't understand this kid and how is he so mature for his age.

The old man left as per the instructions of self-proclaimed master chef. Though the sole reason he left without any argument was because even the gods know that he would have strangled that kid to death if stayed a little longer around that brat.

When the old man returned with chicken meat from the butcher shop, the kid washed the meat and used the grounded powder of the black beads with salt and hint of lemon juice to marinate the meat. Then letting it rest for half an hour he roasted the whole chicken on fire.

The aroma of charred meat and the juices was so great that they both were left with watering mouth. The meat skin had developed golden brown crust with little bit charred ends. The kid professionally carved the pieces and pushed a dish full of them out to the old man.

When they both bit in to the tender meat heavenly juices gushed out of the meat. The old man closed his eyes and enjoyed the bliss. The kid almost had tears in eyes. He had deeply missed that extra kick of heat in his food. He was enjoying while reminiscing about his old world and old life as well.

"What the heck is this, is this tingling sensation on my tongue coming from that black pepper?" asked the old man.

The kid nodded and said with a smug, "loving it?"

"This feeling, it's addictive. I can already see making huge profits from its addiction. Maybe that man was right it is black gold" said the old man imagining way into the future where he was surrounded by bikini clad women.

The kid was chewing in bliss due to which he had become a loose cannon and blurted out, "My father can be a loose tongue but he never lies."

"WHAT?" shouted the man in utter shock. The old man stopped eating and looked at the kid severely.

The kid realized that he had said something he shouldn't have. He looked at the old man and said sheepishly trying to pretend he had never said anything, "What?"

"Do you think I'm that stupid? I clearly heard what you said, Master Chef Satvik." said the man.

Satvik sighed and cursed his father's genes which have also made him a loose mouthed person.

"Fine I'll tell you but you have to promise me that you would never tell any other soul about it" said Satvik against his better judgment.

"I swear upon my name Haldi Vasoo and in the name of Lord Agni, that I will keep it a secret" said the old man.

'People really like to swear upon their name here. Wait he has a surname, well he was a rich merchant' thought Satvik.

In the world of Medini only the Royal, Nobles, lords and people wealthy enough had surnames. Families like Dhruv's could never use surname.

Satvik started narrating his story so far while avoiding disclosing some information such as his parent's skill ceremony and meeting with the demigods.

In this version of the story his mother was killed during their escape and his father somehow made to this village and left to divert soldier's attention. After Satvik had narrated the whole story, both remained quiet for a while. Haldi felt that the kid had faced many things and that's why he uses sarcasm and jokes around to mask his pain.

"Now I can see facial similarities between him and you. Sheesh these old eyes can't even see what's in front of them properly" said Haldi while he moved closer to Satvik.

Haldi patted Satvik's shoulder and with a gentle smile said, "You are not alone anymore. Your father and I had become friends without even realizing it, you can think me of as a grandfather."

Satvik cringed hard and with a smug said, "Hell no! Who wants grandfather as smelly and creepy as you? I have a great mother who pampers me a lot and a father who is pretty chill, so I will pass your offer. Thanks but no Thanks."

Haldi's smile froze and he couldn't believe what just happened. The urge to smack the kid to oblivion returned and increased several folds.

Satvik cleared his throat and said, "I appreciate your thoughts but all the help I need from you is regarding my money issue."

"I'm going to be at war with almost this entire world, so I'll be needing lots of it. I know about many more spices and all. Whenever I find new one, I will tell the details to you, exclusively."

"You are to acquire great wealth from it and to assist me in future."

Few months had passed since the black flavoring powder was introduced in the market.

At dinner table Satvik was enjoying Aisha's cooking which had slightly improved due to flavor enhancement from the black pepper. Next to him, his parents were also enjoying the sensation of new flavor called spice.

"This black peeper stuff is great, I love the change it had brought in our food" said Aisha while munching on roasted chicken seasoned with salt, black pepper and little bit of lime.

"How many I've told you it's 'PEPPER' and not 'Peeper', for god's sake" said Dhruv.

"Whatever, but this stuff is very good? Who would've thought that Mad Haldi wasn't 'Mad', I guess nobody saw it coming!" said Aisha.

Satvik rolled his eyes over. Without his help the old smelly hag would have died in the corner of the town without anyone even knowing. Although Satvik was very happy that his father has left him another gift in this world to make things easier for him.

"But you have to give some credit to our kid as well. I don't know how helpful he had been to that old coot to make him give us free supply for lifetime. Free stuff is always the best!" said Dhruv with prideful eyes.
