As soon as she heard her daughter’s voice, Weng Yinlin turned around to look at the newly-wed bride. With a smile, she said, “You’re awake, Siyue? You’re just in time. Aunt Song’s soup is just about done. You should drink more of it later, it’s good for you.”
“Thank you, mom.” After Xin Siyue responded with a smile, she turned to look at Chen Sinan, her eyes obviously revealed her dissatisfaction — how could he have the guts to just say such things?!
Chen Sinan wiped his hands and walked towards her. “We’re going to have a fine meal tonight. Even though mom hasn’t cooked for years, she’s willing to cook up a storm just for you.”
Xin Siyue was quite surprised. She never expected that this fierce-looking woman named Weng Yinlin would actually have such a homely side to her outside of work.
“Let me help you with some dishes, mom.”
“It’s fine, I’ll be done after this one. You must be tired, go rest in the living room.”
When Xin Siyue saw Weng Yinlin’s gaze that insinuated “I know how you young people are”, her face couldn’t help but blush up.
Once they were done cleaning up after dinner, Xin Siyue and Chen Sinan watched TV for a while with their grandfather. Suddenly, the old man said that his fingers were itching to play some chess again, so he asked Xin Siyue, “My granddaughter-in-law, do you know how to play chess?”
Xin Siyue blinked her eyes before asking him, “What type of chess, grandpa? Chinese chess or five-in-a-row?”
“Why not both?” Grandpa Chen suggested.
Xin Siyue paused for a moment, thinking about something. She then responded back, “Oh, sure! I’ll go get the chess set from the study.”
After Xin Siyue ran upstairs, Chen Sinan, who was sitting on the center of the sofa, turned his gaze over to give the old man a glance, the meaning behind his eyes was very clear.
Grandpa Chen rocked his chair and laughed when he noticed this. “It’s truly nice to have a granddaughter-in-law. At the very least, I have a chess partner now.”
Chen Sinan sighed and made a small comment, “You should hold back a little, old man.”

Grandpa Chen laughed once more. “Since I can’t mess with my own grandson, then playing around with my granddaughter-in-law seems rather quite fun.”
On the other hand, Xin Siyue, who didn’t think too much of it, brought the chess set over. Once she finished setting up the game and played for a few moves with Grandpa Chen, she found that she was unable to hold on.
She had also played chess with Chen Sinan before, however, both Grandpa Chen and Chen Sinan were completely different players. If she put on a spoiled or cute act against Chen Sinan, then she could get him to go easy on her like that. Moreover, he tended to be gentle with her in chess. He wasn’t at all like Grandpa Chen who exposed his murderous aura in just a short amount of time.
Since Xin Siyue wasn’t very good at chess, it didn’t really take her long to fall to a tragic end.
It was almost as if Grandpa Chen was checking out her skill level. When they moved on to five-in-a-row, he clearly changed his tactics, almost as if he was slowly dicing her up slice after slice.
These chess games were amazingly excruciating for Xin Siyue. And several times, she would look over to Chen Sinan, her pitiful eyes asking him for help.
Chen Sinan could only scold her helplessly, “You idiot!” Just as he was about to teach her a few tricks, Grandpa Chen at the side stopped him immediately. “Hey! No talking during chess!”
Chen Sinan’s eyes swept over to the proud Grandpa Chen, and then at his own wife. He could only endure this torturous moment with her. Every so often, he would reach out to hold her hand, stroking it with his fingers.
At the end when Xin Siyue’s entire army was annihilated, she finally let out a sigh of relief.
Grandpa Chen laughed and said, “It’s been a long time since I’ve played chess with someone so bad at it. You should play some chess with me more in the future! Hm?”
Xin Siyue helplessly agreed with a smile on her face, but when she was about to pack up the chess set, she didn’t expect that Chen Sinan would suddenly say, “Old man, let’s play a few games.”
When he heard this, Grandpa Chen was overjoyed. “Sure, come on!”
Ever since he took over the company, Chen Sinan had been coming home less and less, there was no need to even mention of him having the time to play a calming game of chess with his grandfather.
And so, Grandpa Chen rubbed his hands together, clearly ready for a fight. But in just a few minutes, Xin Siyue sat wide-eyed at the completely one-sided chess game. Chen Sinan stood up and spoke like he didn’t even break a sweat, “Let’s go, my wife. It’s time for us to sleep.”
Grandpa Chen’s face was dark.
Meanwhile, Xin Siyue was stunned. Chen Sinan, thank you for your grace last time.

Chen Sinan huffed to show his dissatisfaction.
However, Xin Siyue didn’t care. After she was done eating, she went upstairs to get changed. But halfway through it, Chen Sinan barged his way in. He leaned against the doorway, and while watching her continue changing, he spoke leisurely, “After you’re done, let’s go and get our stuff settled.”
Xin Siyue first finished putting on her clothes, and as she was fixing up her hair, she asked him, “Settle what?”
Chen Sinan responded calmly, “Our marriage certificate.”
Xin Siyue, who was busy trying to tie her hair, paused mid-way. She turned around and looked at him. “So you’re saying… we’re going to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get our certificate?”
He silently smiled at her. “If we don’t get it at the Civil Affairs Bureau, then where else should we get it?”
After she heard this, Xin Siyue couldn’t help her mouth from forming a wide smile. She quickly replied, “Ah, my family’s household register is with my parents.”
“Then we can get it from father and mother-in-law later.”
“Okay.” Xin Siyue stared at him, the smile on her face didn’t show any signs of fading away.
After taking a trip to the Xin family house, they headed for the Civil Affairs Bureau. In just less than an hour, they were back out again. Xin Siyue had finally and legally become a married woman now. She looked at the small red book in her hands and felt a little dazed while staring at it. “Sigh, I’ve finally become a wed woman in the eyes of the law.”
Chen Sinan, who was currently backing up the car, glanced at her and remarked in a cold tone, “You sound quite disappointed, Mrs. Chen.”
Xin Siyue leaned over towards him and smiled. “But with such a handsome beauty to stay with me for the rest of my life, I think it’s worth it.”
