Chapter 19.  Mutual Aid (2)

So-hee was able to get rid of the maid in front of her bedroom because Kelly made a believable excuse about having their tea time at the greenhouse garden.

The maidservant monitoring Ariad had just left to prepare their refreshments.

Joshua’s study was just a floor above Ariad’s room, and with Kelly’s help, Sohee could climb upstairs as fast as she could.

Fortunately, the hallway was quiet because his secretary and knights had accompanied him to the Emperor’s meeting.

“You just need to find some documents to burn, right? What are we going to do if we get caught?”

“We won’t get caught. Just trust me.”

Anyway, they still had another hour left before Joshua’s meeting ended, and it was easy to burn that paper because she already knew where it was placed.

Joshua might be suspicious of her after she had gotten rid of it, but that would only remain as a suspicion unless he could produce a shred of solid evidence against her.

The maidservant would just inform him of her tea time with Kelly.

Kelly’s fingers trembled as she grabbed the study’s doorknob and twisted it to the side.

“Let’s go to the table.”

The first thing she grabbed was a silver lighter Joshua had been holding in his office for two days straight.

After sitting on a dark brown leather chair, So-hee opened the third drawer.

Fortunately, all of the documents remained intact.

Sohee picked up the document she wanted and lit it on fire.

“Oh, it’s hot!”

When the flame touched the back of her hand, she released it with a scream.

She stamped her foot on it the instant it fell to the ground.

Kelly freaked out as the ball of paper continued to burn.

“How can you burn it like that?”

Kelly pushed a stainless steel ashtray from the corner of the table in front of her.

After throwing the paper there in a hurry, So-hee poured the tea she had left on the table.

After it engulfed more than half the document, the flames died.

She picked up the steel ashtray, shoved her wheeled chair backward to approach the window, and opened it.

Then, she turned the tray upside down to scatter the burnt ashes below.

“Good! I did it!”

As So-hee smiled in satisfaction, she heard a whisper from behind.

“Are you done?”

“Let’s go out of here so we can talk.”

“Can you tell me now?” Kelly’s eyes narrowed doubtfully. “I want to know what the hell of a mess is coming up to disturb me.”

If Sohee didn’t tell Kelly right away, she looked like she wouldn’t hesitate to abandon her and leave.

Sohee checked the time on the wall clock.

Fortunately, they still had plenty of time left before Joshua arrived.

“Check the third drawer of your desk every day just before dinner.”

“What?”

“The Duchess will put an expensive piece of jewelry in that drawer. I don’t need to say more, but you already know how that will put you in a lot of trouble, right?”

So-hee recalled the events she had written down in her web novel.

Since she never recorded the exact date and time, it was the best information she could give her.

“That’s all the information I’ve heard.”

Kelly seemed contemplative for a moment as if she was trying to figure out if she was telling the truth or not.

In the end, she would have no choice but to believe it.

Since she was a child, Mrs. Eurecia used to visit Kelly’s room without permission, and she was well aware of how the Duchess would justify herself abusing her with that excuse.

“That particular drawer is locked.”

“It’s not that hard to find its key, Miss Kelly. Of course, a thief would keep the things he’d stolen where people couldn’t find them. That includes locked drawers, by the way. If this happens, you will be declared a robber in front of Grand Duke Eurecia.”

She made statements to rouse Kelly’s anger over the Duchess even more.

However, there was a possibility that the Duchess’ antics wouldn’t work if the Grand Duke was aware of them.

As far as Sohee knew, The Duchess might keep Kelly inside Eurecia’s mansion for a while with the excuse of ‘educating’ the bad daughter.

Of course, their sole aim was to bully her, but it also prevented Kelly from making friends with the Empress.

Kelly’s forehead wrinkled in disbelief as So-hee recited the situation as she could see into the future.

Should she believe her?

When Kelly’s blue eyes showed signs of anguish, So-hee hurriedly added. “You won’t lose anything if you choose to believe me. As I said, it’s not that hard to check the drawers after every meal every day, right?”

“That’s true, but… By the way, what was the paper you just burned? Why are you so——”

Sohee rechecked the time with a sidelong glance.

“Let’s get out of here first. We will continue our——”

Sadly, the words didn’t go on after that.

As soon as the office door opened, two pair of pupils shook with embarrassment.

The owner entered the room where the smell of burnt paper still lingered.

Blood-red eyes glowered at the two.

“Macon, take the guest out of this room.”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

Standing next to Joshua, Macon glanced at the two women before fixing his gaze on Kelly.

Shivering, she left the room without making eye contact with Joshua.

So-hee stared at Kelly’s back, slowly getting farther away from them.

Please.

She wanted to go with her and leave the office, too.

“Uh… I should go out, too. Hahaha.”

Seated on the chair, So-hee’s instincts forced her to stand and get away from there to survive.

When she stumbled after a couple of steps, she grabbed the table’s edge and attempted to settle her palms and knees on the floor.

If she still couldn’t walk, she might as well learn how to crawl.

Joshua circled one arm around her waist.

*BAM*

The door was closed shut, followed by a breathtaking silence.

Joshua tilted his head as his gaze moved to the table where the documents were piled up.

“What have you done here, Ariad?”
