CHAPTER 27- Good News (1)

*KNOCK*

*KNOCK*

At the unexpected person’s appearance, So-hee’s eyes grew like lanterns.

The man in front of the window knocked on it again when she just looked at it in surprise.

It was difficult for her to process that he was right there.

Hugh Carlywood was dangerously seated on a hanging tree branch.

“It’s me, Ariad!” Hugh called loudly.

So-hee had to press her forefinger against her lips to keep him quiet.

If Joshua’s confidant, her maid, came in at the wrong time, it would be a disaster.

Now, So-hee was forced to crawl on fours to reach the window.

The distance was quite far, causing her to sweat bullets on her back.

Watching her crawl in a beautiful dress on the floor, the man drooped his eyebrows as if apologetic.

“I want to go inside, but the iron bars are hard to break.”

Hugh tried to pull the iron bars from the large window, shaking each of them several times.

But, he gave up as soon as he lost his strength.

She opened the window and faced him.

“Why are you here? Are you insane?”

His dark eyebrows furrowed.

“I have good news for you, and I just want to let you know. That’s all.”

“Good news?”

“I will see you often.”

Hugh’s cute face reminded her of a Welsh Corgi, making her smile.

When she realized that Joshua would never allow this man to visit, she became depressed.

She was starting to feel alone.

The quick shift of her countenance was alarmingly drastic.

“Oh. I didn’t mean to bother you, Ariadne. I’m happy just watching you from afar.”

She stared at him.

Why did he have to be so cute?

From the way she looked at him, Hugh seemed to misunderstand.

“If my behavior makes you uncomfortable, I will stop. I’m sorry.”

Her pale pink lips curled as she regarded him.

Did he make her feel uncomfortable?

Not at all.

If her legs were fine, she would be happy enough to get up and dance with him.

She wanted to express her heart at that moment, but Joshua’s handsome face suddenly crossed her mind.

She chose not to say anything in the end.

She couldn’t put her ‘celebrity crush look-alike’ to death after Deon.

“I feel burdened. Please don’t come back anymore.”

I’m sorry.” Hugh’s voice trembled as his short, dark blue hair fluttered in the breeze.

He looked so pitiful that she wanted to take those hurtful words back and let them sink into her heart again.

“It’s not that I hate you, Hugh. Some people might think that what you’re doing is bad. I’m saying this because I’m worried about you.”

The heartfelt statement made him smile in relief.

“Thank you for your concern.”

Why did he have to be so nice to her?

It felt like receiving fan service from her crush.

Soaked in romantic bliss,  she almost forgot about her current reality so she decided to continue the conversation.

“So what’s this good news you were talking about?”

“Oh. I wanted to tell you that I passed the Royal Knighthood examination. I am now a Knight under the crown prince’s order!”

She found his response strange at first.

Chagrin was the emotion that followed.

“What? The Crown Prince? Joshua?”

Hugh nodded proudly.

“Yes. Now, I can see you often. As soon as they told me I got accepted this morning, I moved my residence into Imperial City. I’m just happy to see you from afar.”

As Hugh drowned in his jovial mood, So-hee fell into deep thought.

Was this just a coincidence?

How scary~

“Is this fate or what?”

Joshua’s character was too annoying for her to consider this a coincidence.

There must be some gruesome detail she hadn’t known of yet.

But if Joshua just wanted to check Hugh’s background, he didn’t have to pick him as his knight and keep him close, right?

So-hee rationalized Joshua’s decision even if it might disappoint Hugh.

This couldn’t be a coincidence.

Not when the crown prince had smiled at her sweetly before this.

“I didn’t make any mistakes, right?”

“I don’t think you made any mistake.”

However, the strange discomfort remained.

“What is it? Am I missing something?” She muttered in contemplation.

Hugh tilted his head and looked at So-hee.

“What?” He whispered in a deep voice.

She shook her head to shake the sense of foreboding in her mind.

“No. I’m glad I can see you often as well.”

If both of them only had a ‘talking’ relationship, Joshua wouldn’t harm him, right?

She just wanted to enjoy his company without unnecessary concerns.

And since they’re dealing with the crown prince here, their problems were realistic.

“Hugh, can I ask you a favor since I’ll see you often?”

She needed information about Bandelli’s trial tomorrow.

“Yes, anything. I’ll do anything for you. Helping you is a great pleasure.”

It wasn’t like it’ll be challenging, so Hugh would be alright.

So-hee managed to pull out a wild card, but the plot development was still too vague for her to make out.
