31. Back to reality (1)

Next to Joshua, Brix also overheard the unexpected information.

‘Ariad was unconscious after she collapsed.’

He stamped his seal roughly on the paper and put it on the table.

He also took this opportunity to leave the conference room with Joshua.

‘How interesting~’ That was his first thought.

Upon seeing Joshua rush inside the palace, it appeared like something had happened that everyone should have shouted about.

What else was fun?

When he arrived there, a second thought came to mind.

“Your Highness. My sisters made this cake themselves and they asked me to give it to her.”

Tears were streaming down the blond woman’s pale face.

Kelly blocked Joshua’s way and tried to explain herself but Joshua simply ignored her without even realizing she was there.

Brix faced  the woman crying in the hallway without even thinking about following the crown prince into the room.

Why was she here?

The tremor in her fingertips showed no sign of stopping so she clenched her fists, trying to hide them.

Brix stared at Kelly’s hands as he approached her while Joshua was talking to the doctor through the gap in the open door.

Calm words came and went as Joshua held Ariad’s hand tightly.

The crown prince’s anxiety was too obvious from the prominent veins seen at the back of his hand.

The apple-scented woman turned her gaze to observe Joshua.

“Are you sure you didn’t know this would happen?”

Kelly’s face stiffened at the sudden question.

Her wriggling fists and the rustle of her skirts stopped.

“What do you mean?”

When Brix didn’t say anything, Kelly opened her wobbly lips to speak.

“Are you saying I gave it to her on purpose?”

“Well——”

Brix, who had lost interest, calmed down.

Ariad’s bed was messy from the crushed cake, and her purple hair was scattered here and there when she fell to the ground.

He had no idea if his assumption was right because he hadn’t seen what happened in person.

“How can you not know?”

The story about Ariad, who had collapsed after eating food with a pineapple ingredient at a tea party held earlier this year, quickly became known.

Ariad’s exceptional beauty and attitude were an object of envy and hatred for women and an object of obsession and longing for men.

Her fame also contributed to the rapid spread of these rumors.

Most of all, Brix knew that Kelly attended that tea party.

Brix’s gaze gradually cooled as he stared into her blue eyes.

Kelly, who had been thinking for a moment in search of a believable answer, opened her mouth.  “How rude of you to suspect me. You are wrong.”

“I never said anything of the sort. You worry too much.”

“You stole the cookies I asked you to give to His Highness. How rude!”

Brix lightly swept the hair away from his forehead because a strand had almost poked him in the eye.

“Why would I steal them? What if I ate them so that you wouldn’t appear insane?” Brix gave her a half-hearted smile. “No. I can read your mind. I can clearly see that it would turn into an embarrassing situation if you entered the crown prince’s room with your gift.”

“You’re rude and meddlesome! You’re the worst.”

For a moment, Kelly’s pupils shook with violence.

One corner of Brix’s mouth curled up.

“I think it’s fun! It’s natural for me to get nosy when I like something…. or someone.”

Kelly’s brows furrowed as she searched for a vague resistance in his playful words but she decided to let it slide.

She didn’t want to think about it too deeply if it was just a light-hearted response.

“I won’t let you meddle with my life anymore.”

Her heavy tone seemed to strike his brain when he turned pale.

The fair, young man’s heavy tone struck her mind.

“You’re no fun.”

* * *

“Oh my god!”

Inhaling the cool air, she clutched her neck with both hands and jumped out of bed.

Fortunately, she managed to escape the pain of having a tight airway.

She seemed to be in a familiar room.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Sohee filled her lungs with air several times before she decided to relax.

“I still can’t get used to death even if I keep experiencing it.”

She was glad that she was back.

Sohee recalled Kelly’s distorted face as she handed her a toxic cake.

Why did that bitch look like she was about to cry before leaving her with such indifference as her cloud of golden hair fluttered behind her back?

“Oh, my. That b*tch is so nice!”

The plot might have twisted multiple times but she thought that her web novel’s characters had retained their unique characteristics.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t all of them.

She only tolerated Kelly’s behavior so far because she was confident enough in the development she planned.

Despite creating an angelic and straightforward heroine, So-hee was shocked at the mess Kelly just made.

“My web novel’s characters are three-dimensional than I thought.”

Sitting down on her chair in front of the computer, So-hee felt so uncomfortable that she decided to be more wary of Kelly.

How long has it been since she last checked the comment section?

After praying for her web novel’s contents to be intact, she calmly read the comments and suggestions for her novel’s future development.

It turned out that many episodes were solved after she spent a lot of time trapped in the novel.

Also, an overwhelming number of comments were praising Joshua.

[It’s so fun to read about Joshua. Just throw away Deon.]

[An obsessed male lead is so delicious! I can’t even handle it.]

She wasn’t sure yet if she liked what she read or not but an ambiguous smile was drawn on Sohee’s mouth.

‘I’m glad you like the male lead so much, but I can’t believe you want me to abandon Deon.’

It wasn’t possible to see Deon’s head rolling on the platform so vividly in her dream.

If So-hee had never met him at the start, she couldn’t care less if he died.

That might sound cold but she had already confirmed that Deon was a living, breathing person like her.

How could she let him die?
