39. The Culprit Is In Here (2)

As So-hee remembered her web novel’s characters one by one with a vague expression, she suddenly spat out a small exclamation at a character that crossed her mind.

Deon?

There was a good chance it was him.

Not long ago, he fell for Joshua’s provocation and tried to actually kill him, and he would have been released as of the moment since he got immediately investigated two days ago.

That was enough time for him to order someone to do it but wasn’t he being too reckless?

“You said the criminal escaped immediately that you couldn’t even catch him. Is it really that hard to find out who it was?”

Joshua affirmed with a slight nod.

Even her web novel’s male lead was hard to figure out.

What if he was the criminal all along and he did this to himself for some unknown reason?

It was a bit hard to believe that Deon was able to think of a smart plan where he didn’t get caught but honestly, he was the most likely culprit of this incident out of all characters.

“Ariad.” He uttered in a low voice.

As she stared at his arms wrapped in white bandages with a troubled look, So-hee raised her head upon hearing his call.

Joshua’s blood-red eyes were darker than the sunset outside the window as he watched Sohee with a grim expression.

“Please pay attention to me.”

“What?”

“I’m hurt.”

His relaxed countenance disappeared only to be replaced with a slight frown.

Then, he glanced at his arm with a wink and continued. “It hurts so much.”

The man, who always said that the wounds on his body felt nothing, expressed his pain from out of the blue.

Surprised, Sohee jumped up and quickly approached him.

“What’s wrong with you?”

“My arms hurt.”

At that, So-hee sat next to Joshua and carefully touched one of his bandaged arms.

“Ah.”

Joshua let out a painful sigh.

She couldn’t believe that this man, who had never felt pain even after stabbing himself, suddenly felt something at this moment.

She was a little afraid to check his wounds after realizing how badly he must be hurt.

Still,So-hee carefully untied the bandages on his arm.

“Just hang in there. I just want to see the extent of your injuries. How the hell did this happen? You’really—— WAH!”

So-hee’s monologue got interrupted and she let out a loud sigh when she saw the long cut in his bandaged right arm.

There were thread marks on his incision scars and even if they were healed, the large wound would be engraved on his skin forever.

“What the hell is this?”

Sohee sobbed with tears streaming down her face.

She couldn’t believe the male lead would get hurt like this.

Joshua’s eyes followed her gaze and glanced at the wound.

“It hurts, but I’m alright. It’s not like I’m going to die from this.”

Was he comforting her when he was the one who needed comforting?

His eyes, calm as the deep sea, looked at So-hee’s expression and chuckled.

“Do you think this is funny, Joshua?”

“I find your expression silly. You’re grimacing as if you’re the one who got hurt.”

So-hee glowered at him and Joshua burst into laughter.

“Now, that’s better.”

“This is not the time to joke around.”  She spat out like she was breathing fire.

Frowning, Sohee gently bandaged his arm again.

“Ariad.”

“It’s alright to be hurt. But this might be a problem to you.”

“What problem? What do  you mean?”

“It’s going to be hard working alone.”

Joshua’s eyes turned to the office table and on top of it was a pile of documents that hadn’t been processed yet.

So-hee, who was looking through it, clenched her fist and jumped up.

“Don’t worry, I’ll help you.”

There was nothing she couldn’t do for him and it was time for her to repay Joshua’s kindness, anyway.

The crown prince had treated her so well and dealt with all kinds of her antics to the extent that he had to become her personal wheelchair when she got sick.

Of course, Ariad’s body hadn’t fully recovered yet.

If Ariad’s legs were uncomfortable, Joshua’s arms must be uncomfortable too so she wouldn’t have a problem helping him.

“Let’s go sit down. I’ll hand you the paper.”

As she approached the table with determination, she heard an amused chuckle from behind.

However, So-hee didn’t mind it that much since he was too preoccupied on how to help him.

Joshua rose from the sofa and slowly moved his feet along with her, his gentle eyes glancing over So-hee.

When he arrived at the table, he saw her pointing at the chair.

“Come and sit down.”

Joshua acquiesced and sat down on it while So-hee stood next to the chair.

As she looked around, So-hee realized that she had no place to sit so she tried to drag a chair near him but Joshua stopped her.

“Sit on my lap.”

“Huh? I’m not that stupid enough to sit on a patient’s lap.”

“It’ll be easier for me to see the documents if you sit on me.”

“Ah.”

At that, Joshua and So-hee, who were both determined to follow through with what was better, nodded at each other after a moment of contemplation.

Then, once again, Joshua threw his head back and laughed.

This time, Sohee couldn’t hold back her own amusement and smiled a little.

“Why are you laughing?”

Her forehead wrinkled in confusion.

The crown prince laughed even if he’s badly hurt that it made her wonder if he also suffered from brain damage.

Joshua, who was trying to suppress his laughter by pressing his lips in a tight line, unexpectedly replied. “It’s fun.”

In that moment, So-hee concluded that his brain was really damaged.
