Special Shoutout to:

Amelia: The Level Zero [Hero] by MelasD

Ten years ago, Amelia woke up alone and lost in a broken world where she had to fight for her survival.

Now, after reaching the pinnacle of power, defeating the Void itself, and escaping the abyss, she has finally found her way back into the real world. But instead of finding herself on Earth, she is in the land of Vacuos. A fantasy world with magic, monsters, Classes, and Levels. A world that is governed by a System like it were a video game.

And when rewarded with a Class befitting her accomplishments— to become a powerful [Hero] that will forever dedicate her life to protecting this world that is not her own— she only has one response.

“Absolutely not. I’m going to live a normal life now, thank you very much.”

After all, who needs a Class when you're already the strongest anyways?

Seriously check it out, MelasDelta has helped make this fiction possible, and he is also my best friend! Do give it a read!

I let out a grunt as I stabbed through a monster’s head. A six-legged insect that was taller than me, ghastly legs with a furry body and eight eyes to peer into my soul. The nest was full of them. I twisted and pushed mana, exploding it on its insides.

[You have killed: (E) Ela Weaver. Lvl. 43]

[+50 Prime from Hunter (Uncommon E) Quest.]

I kicked the Weaver insect out of the way, I had finished the Hunter quest about ten times already. At first it was fun, to test how much stronger I had gotten. Explosive Shots had changed, thanks to my Grand Feat they had grown stronger, a lot of my skills had seen some sort of boost. Mimicry Enhancement lasted 7 minutes instead of 5 to make an example. I had no worthy opponents to test my skills on, or rather, opponents that could make me struggle.

I ventured further into the cave, where I could sense the last Weaver alive, and well I could also sense the monolith, but I gave it no importance. It didn’t take long before I found myself in an expansive chamber underground.

The room sparkled, lines of string ran from one end to another, glistening under tha mana crystal deposits that littered the ceiling. At the center of the room, along with the stone monolith there was a monster perched atop the string. It had eight stick-like legs and four neon green eyes, its body was a deep blue. And at that moment, I let out a sigh.

[Guardian of Webs. Lvl. 51]

The Guardian simply stared at me, but it gave me no sense of danger or anything like that. I reached for my bow, feeling a sense of detachment— it was made out of some sort of black wood with golden engravings, it was different to the bows I was used to. I took out a deep breath and nocked three arrows, they were picked at random. Quickly, aiming at the monster I pushed mana onto the bow and the arrows, all of them became Explosive and then I fired.

The three arrows beamed the Guardian in quick succession, each arrow exploded along with a screech of pain, sending shocks through the cave, and then, the notification came.

[Activated: Mark of Death.]

I felt my mana linger on random seeds that I activated, a cloud of spores filled the air and some random vines did too— ignite. I commanded once more, and a fiery torrent sprouted in the middle of the room, instantly leeching onto anything it touched. The Guardian was grazed by it, and soon its head and torso were consumed by it. It rolled on the ground and began to screech in a panic.

[Guardian of Webs requests assistance— Assistance denied.]

With a pained screech it moved its limbs haphazardly before it took its last breath and it died.

[You have killed: (D) Guardian of Webs. Lvl. 51]

[Level up: You have achieved level 60. Prophecy Bonus: +1 WIS +1 VIG]

[New Milestone reached — Skills & Knowledge Available]

I shook my head and ignored the clearance notifications, instead moved forward towards the monolith and the chest. I didn’t bother with the monolith since it was too far away from the mountain, and kicking open the chest brought me a small surprise. It was a small sleeve with three needles.

[Weaver Knives (Rare) — Throwing knives made out of weaved metal. Everlasting Wire — Supplying mana to the sheathe will create a mana thread from the knife to the sheathe, connecting the two together in an almost indestructible bond.]

I picked them up, the nest itself was E ranked so maybe it made sense. It also came with a Prophecy.

[D Rank Prophecy: Tensile Threads

Threads to threaten anything.]

I threw it in my ring and headed back.

◇ ◇ ◇

I took a deep breath.

[Skill Learned — Dynamic Mana (Epic Passive) — Your mana usage has reached a new pinnacle. You understand how to efficiently channel it, and manipulate it. Your mana will now be 5-10% more efficient.]

The skill was a bit confusing at first glance, but I simply took it as anywhere from 9 to 18 Wisdom which needless to say was great. I decided to keep the free attribute points from leveling up to myself, saving them for the future. At the same time, clearing nests was a bit boring.

I stood up from my small break and looked at my currency.

Prime Currency: 950

I was certainly getting rich at least. Sun laid to my side, we were situated yet inside another nest, and this time around right outside the Guardian chamber. I grabbed three arrows and looked towards him.

“Do you want to make a bet?”

He lifted his brow. “What kind?”

“How long do you think this Guardian lasts?”

“Hm… About a minute.”

I nodded and headed inside.

◇ ◇ ◇

The spear cleaved through its neck, and melted its insides. It was some sort of rock golem, but it exploded just from being poked by the spear.

[You have killed: (E) Guardian of the Xein. Lvl. 44]

The chest offered nothing but an E ranked Prophecy that was taken, and soon I left to a different nest.

All of them were weak.

[You have killed: (D) Guardian of the Bloodwater. Lvl. 41]

And disappointing too.

I let out a long breath as I stabbed through the chest of the humanoid monster thing. It was akin to an insect with bright yellow eyes. It had high agility, but it was handicapped by mushroom spores, and moreover, it had lost one of its legs to Explosive Shot. It let out a hate filled squeal as it too was denied its assistance.

I shook my head, this was definitely too boring. I exploded what I assumed was its neck.

[You have killed: (D) Guardian of Prey. Lvl. 53]

[Level up: You have achieved level 61. Prophecy Bonus: +1 WIS +1 VIG]

[You have completed a quest — Primal Bounty Hunter (Rare D) Receive Reward?]

[You have completed a quest — Nest Destroyer (Uncommon E) Receive Reward?]

Oh. I paused and received the rewards. In an instant, I was rewarded with 3,500 Prime Currency whose use still somewhat evaded me.

Prime Currency: 5,250

I had way more than before, but I simply shook my head and approached the chest quickly opening it. There was only a vial, but it made me happy to see it.

[Guidance Of The Stars: 1 minute (Rare item) — Seek the guidance of the stars themselves to show you the path of your Prophecy.]

That made it worth it. I had about twenty seconds left on the other vial, and a full ten minutes of it on the last one. I was a bit unsure of when to use them, but I stowed it away for now.

That reminded me, I had to look for a way to make my Prophecy C rank, at the same time I doubted Lumina would help me much with the visions. I still had to get an idea of the things I wanted to see, except for the treant maybe— the skills I was beginning to get for level ups felt a bit pointless, a lot of them weren’t pivotal or would help much.

Perhaps it was time to start getting Knowledge?

As I was moving forward, I saw Sun round the corner at a somewhat hurried pace. His eyes visibly brightened upon seeing me.

“Blair!”

“What’s the matter?”

He paused on his tracks and seemed to ponder for a second before finally speaking.

“Well, you have guests.”

“Guests?”

He nodded. “Some… elves.”

I frowned.

Elves?

◇ ◇ ◇

There was uncomfortable silence as we met each other once more. She had green hair and yellow eyes, though in comparison to Elasia I could see there were some subtle differences in tone.

[Woodland Elf. Lvl. 38]

To his side was the guard, the white haired one with the same eye color. They both had the same expression upon seeing me. Shock. The girl looked a bit different, perhaps less innocent, her eyes did not hold fear for me, but she still closed them and bit her lip, making a decision.

“Look, you can kill me if it's for revenge, just let Vallos go.”

“What are you saying?!” he shrieked.

I paused. “Revenge? I am over that.”

The girl paused. “What? Do you not hold some hatred for us the Woodland elves? We annihilated your whole race on some sort of bullshit commandment.” She took a breath. “I don’t really understand what my parents were thinking, but well, it was certainly just an excuse. Do you not feel hatred for that?”

I shook my head. “Considering how things were for me back then, it could be argued that I got freedom instead.” I couldn’t help but shrug, much to their bafflement. “Though killing the both of you would allow me to test some things.”

“Test?” The guard asked.

“How friendly fire works,” I explained.

There was some silence, as they thought. Not long after the girl spoke.

“Let us make a deal.”

“A deal?”

She took a deep breath before closing her eyes once more.

“I am pretty much done with the whole system thing, or well things in general. I don’t really care for things anymore. So with that in mind, I’ll offer to join you.”

The guard was astonished, but I simply raised my brow.

“I don’t see why I should accept—”

“I am the current ruler of the Woodland Elves, the princess of the royal family.”

The guard couldn’t keep his jaw closed, and I felt my skepticism skyrocket. But— I remembered, there was a way to check these things. At least, I felt that The System would do something about it if she was actually the ruler. With that in mind, I extended my hand and smiled.

“Then let us make a deal. You will give me the ruling rights of your race, and in exchange you get to join my pack.”

There was a pause as the gears turned in their heads.

“What is a pack?”

“You both get to join my town, soon to be a city,” I clarified. “In exchange I receive ruling rights.”

She nodded and grabbed my hand.

“Let’s do it.”

“Not so fast, use your mana on your hand and command that you indeed want to make said deal.”

There was a brief pause, but I felt it click.

[You have acquired ruling rights to the race: Woodland Elves, from the current ruler: Elei Nueland. You can now:

- Know the general location of any Woodland Elf.

- Any Woodland Elf can be a member or an enemy of your land should you so desire.]

It was a bit underwhelming, but there was also something else.

[Feat Achieved — First Leader — You’re the first race leader in the New World to take ruling rights from a different race, in order to rule the New World infrastructure is needed. All construction is 10% cheaper.

“Press forth, then we rest.” — Unmar, The Sentinel of Shadow.]

That made me smile. Who was I to say no to free things?

Elei — as The System had called her — retracted her hand with some astonishment.

“That is simpler than I thought it would be.”

I nodded. “It really was, I thought you’d have more… options as the race leader.”

“No, it kind of sucked. Maybe if there is a city the elves will eventually be able to teleport to it? I mean, The System has already shown the capacity to do so.”

I silently thought about the things she said but didn’t agree or disagree. At the same time I was a bit tired of destroying nests left and right, so I turned to Sun.

“Shall we go back?”

He nodded.

◇ ◇ ◇

It took a few hours but eventually we were back home. When we arrived, the two elves were tense and got a few odd looks from some of the monsters— well, thinking about it all the other nests I had cleared lack some sort of sentient monster so it was definitely uncommon. Soon, we reached the house where Elasia seemed to be sitting just looking at the sunset.

Elei paused upon making eye contact with her.

“You’re a Woodland Elf too?”

“A dryad,” she corrected before standing up. “Though, how strange, I thought Blair hated your kind— or well in the past, and now she is bringing them home.”

“I now technically own the Woodland elves,” I said with a shrug.

Elasia smiled. “Well, that is certainly unexpected. No wonder. Ah, when it becomes a city you can teleport them here, maybe you can mass genocide them too if you’re into that.” She shrugged.

“I can do that?”

Elasia simply nodded as she shifted her gaze to Elei.

“And you well, based on the sounds of things you’re welcome here. Same goes to the other elf by your side.”

Elei nodded. “And you are?”

Elasia seemed to ponder for some reason, before smiling wide. “I suppose, you could say I am her mother of sorts. Or father?” She tilted her head as my mind froze. “I did say I’d treat her like my kid.”

I shook my head as both of them looked at me. Elasia simply chuckled.

“Well you both are welcome to stay, though admittedly I don’t really care about it. Maybe go help the wolves with the tree cutting.”

After she said that, they both shared looks and left. Elasia turned to me.

“I see you’ve cleared quite a few nests. How was it?”

I sighed. “Boring.”

“Hm, well there isn’t much to do here, and well the trial might be boring for you. So how about a different trial?”

My ears perked up. “A different trial?”

Elasia nodded with a small smile. “One that can help you develop your Prophecy, and maybe even reach C rank. An illusion of the beginning of all dark plants. However, I think you’re more likely to die.”

“I’ll do it.” I said without any more thoughts. “Though how can it kill me?”

“Once you become a Monarch you can just grab your experiences and put them as trials.” She shrugged. “It doesn’t make them any less real even if in reality they are just artificial.”

I thought about it for a second. “I’ll do it.”

“Well, aren’t you enthusiastic?” I saw her sweat a bit. “Here.”

I opened my hand and I received a small teardrop-like crystal. It was dark with hints of green.

[Trial Teleport — The Illusionist’s Resolve: Trial Of Will. Estimated rank: D+.]

“Why is there a plus?” I asked with some more confusion.

“It’s almost a C grade trial, that’s why.” Elasia took a breath. “Keep in mind that a trial of will, is going to be harder than one of endurance. This one will test your resolve. At the same time, I can’t really tell you what will happen in it since I am unsure myself. The circumstances at the time made it… difficult to tell.” Her face seemed to be a bit bitter so I said nothing.

“I see. Thank you.”

Elasia smiled. “It might be exhausting to make the trials for you, but I don’t mind it. However, I hope you don’t die. They all have timers, just let the time run out if it’s too dangerous.”

I nodded and held the crystal tightly, slowly moving my mana.

“Are you sure you want to activate it now?” She asked, now evidently much more concerned.

“I can trust you with the city, and I don’t have anything else to do.” I admitted. “There is no better time than now, I’m fully recovered too.”

Elasia slowly agreed. “Don’t die then.”

I smiled. “I won’t.”

Pushing my mana and the crystal activated.

“If you survive this.” Elasia grinned. “You may call me Mother or Father, whichever you prefer. After all, you would’ve shown that you’re indeed worthy of being my child.”

I snorted. “As if—”

Blinding light filled my surroundings and a notification came.

[You have entered a trial — Trial Of Will: The Illusionist’s Resolve. Time left: 30 days.

- Objective 1: Find the first seed.]
