The Beginning Of The Curse

The corpses continued to increase.

The battlefield had now descended into a chaotic Hell-scape. No matter how one stepped, their foot would get caught up on the bodies of the dead, and one’s stomach would churn every time they inhaled, because of the overwhelming stench of blood.

The majority of the corpses at the start of the battle were made by catapults.

However, at some point it changed, and the majority of the corpses were now coming from the Kemened Army.

There were bodies with wounds from swords and other weapons springing up everywhere.

At the center of the dead bodies was Leshak.

“… …!”

Abadd and Karum discovered Leshak.

Leshak stood on the battlefield with the same aura as the time he had his sword pointed at Karum’s throat.

His sword moved non-stop. The corpses of the enemy were being created ceaselessly.

Shhhk- Crunch!-

Blood splattered from a severed neck, staining Leshak’s face. Leshak sought out the next corpse without even taking time to wipe the new blood flowing down from his lip.

Shhhk– Crunch!-

His soft silvery hair, which was thought to make people swoon more than moonlight, was stained with blood.

Every time Leshak moved his body, blood dripped off from his body.

Shhhk– Crunch!–

He cut someone’s arm off. What Leshak wanted was to cut off his head. The mortally wounded enemy turned and ran away with a howl. Leshak grabbed the fleeing enemy’s by the hair, fixed his head, and cut with his sword at the same time.

Shhhk– Plunge!-

Leshak threw the head that had been separated from his neck.

‘Your Majesty!’

Someone shouted at Leshak. It was a warning cry to look back at the enemy who was aiming for his back.

Instead of turning around, Leshak thrust his sword behind him.

Shhhk– Crack!-

Leshak’s sword stopped when it got caught in the ribs of the enemy’s chest, as he tried to cut through it. Leshak turned the hilt. The sword, which had entered horizontally, abruptly changed direction and shot up vertically. The sword that smashed thought the bones, and pierced up through his shoulder.

……Thud!-

The mutilated corpse fell to the ground.

It would have been much better if he decapitated him. As it were, many organs flowed out from the cut torso. Leshak casually stepped through hot organs with his feet.

“It was impressive at first, but…… still, it wasn’t to the right degree.”

Karum, who was watching Leshak, licked his lips like he was considering his words.

The Leshak Caliph of the battlefield presented a different appearance from ‘Prince Leshak‘ the Monarch. Leshak Caliph of the battlefield, who wielded a sword and confronted the enemy, was like a War God of Ibeden.

Right here on this battlefield, this Leshak was closer to a God of Death¹.

His injured left hand was still dripping warm blood. It seemed unfathomable, how he was still able to move his hand like that. Leshak also had other small and large wounds added here and there to his unarmored body, but Leshak moved as though he didn’t care.

There was no change in his expression.

No matter how many enemies he killed, or where he was injured, Leshak’s expression did not change

There was nothing.

He looked as though he didn’t care.

Perhaps the enemies are seeing the same thing as Karum. The sighs of astonishment that Leshak Caliph was alive were heard everywhere. Then they once again became sighs of dread.

“That’s….. something’s off. His Majesty doesn’t wield a sword recklessly like that. It’s like….. he seems like a person who doesn’t feel anything.”

He was.

Leshak was behaving like someone who had been cut off from everything, like everything was cast aside.

“Damn it…….”

Abadd turned towards Leshak.

He needed to verify what was happening. What was actually severed?

“Hey, I’m going too!”

Karum shouted and followed Abadd. Then, perhaps because he had been too hasty, he tripped over a corpse and fell forward.

“Oi²! Sir Siyed!”

Someone called Karum from behind. By the time he turned around and checked, it was already too late.

Whistle!–

Karum saw the enemy’s ax flying towards his forehead. The ax blade slashed the forehead.

His vision instantly turned red as though hot blood had flowed into his eyes. Karum lips moved slightly.

“This…..I, ”

Karum wanted to eviscerate the man who sliced his head before dying, but he couldn’t get his hands on him.

Karum stretched out a hand, holding the hilt, but his trembling hand stopped on the spot.

Seeing Karum do nothing, the enemy opened his mouth and laughed.

“Die, Ibeden!”

He flexed his hand that was holding the ax, but before he could do anything,

Crunch!-

With a smile still on his face, his head flew away from his neck.

Leshak’s face entered Karum’s red vision.

“I, I…….”

“…….“

Leshak turned his back with a blank expression on his face.

“Hey, are you okay? You crazy bear, you’re too slow! If His Majesty was one step late, you would be dead!”

His comrades came over to the place where Leshak had left. They lifted up Karum just before he collapsed and moved forward while defeating their enemies. This was in order to move the wounded to a safe place.

“W,well……”

Karum grabbed his comrade’s arm.

“Well? What?”

“Well…keep…..watch……”

“What is he saying now?

“Well….I…..don’t…..really…… ”

Keep an eye on His Majesty.

What was flowing down from his red-tinted eyes was his concern.

His Majesty isn’t his usual self right now.

One step before his death, what Karum saw Prince Leshak’s eyes saying was, nothing mattered anymore.

As Leshak looked for the next enemy, while stepping on the spilled organs of the dead enemies, like stepping through a flower garden, he looked at Karum who still had an ax in his forehead.

Eyes that didn’t care about anything or anyone.

Nothing but the one person who betrayed him.

He wasn’t okay so Karum had to watch him closely.

The weight of worry pressed down on his eyelids.

Karum lost consciousness as he felt his body sway on the shoulder of his comrades.

The battle was over at dawn the next day.

Rumble–

“…….”

Radan woke up to the faint sound of iron.

All night long terrible noise pounded overhead. The hell that unfolded above ground became such a loud sound and was transmitted to the basement where Radan was imprisoned.

There was nothing that he could do against the sound.

Radan just closed his eyes and prayed for the safety of those he knew.

Stomp stomp-

The footsteps drew near.

Radan lifted his head, which had been buried between his knees. Following his small movements, the chains dangling from his wrists and ankles made clinking sounds.

Four, maybe five.

It was the number of people who just came down to the dungeon. Radan smelled a fishy smell that made his empty stomach ache. Everyone had a strong smell of blood.

“Open the door.”

It was Leshak’s voice.

Radan’s heart was pounding. His eardrums were about to burst at the sound of his heart.

Radan clasped onto his hands tightly. If he didn’t hold onto something, it felt like he might lose his mind.

Squeak, thud-

The bar was lifted and the lattice door opened.

“Don’t go too close, My Grace. He is not a person who you can let your guard down around, even if he’s tied up.”

Abadd heard the sound of Leshak stopping. Instead of answering, Leshak tossed something inside.

Slide-, thump-

It was a man’s decapitated head that rolled up to Radan’s feet.

“It’s a gift.”

“……”

Radan groped onto the floor and touched the object that had rolled towards him, touched his cold skin, and bit his lip in surprise.

“It is the head of the Duke of Nuukpa.”

“……”

The Duke of Nuukpa’s decapitated head meant the annihilation of Kemened’s army, but Radan did not understand the meaning.

 “D,don’t know, the name……. Majesty.”

“What? You don’t know the name of the commander of Kemened’s army? That’s strange.”

The voice that followed sent a chill down his spine.

“He knew you.”

“…….”

It was Leshak’s voice but it didn’t sound like the same Leshak, as though he wasn’t Leshak.

There was nothing.

The man that moved him, that made him calm, the man who melted his heart and made him stronger, had vanished.

The day had finally come. The day when all the kindness that Leshak has shown him was taken away.

Radan felt his heart plummet to that far down place.

It was bound to come someday.

From the time Karum discovered his identity, or maybe even before that.

Radan was afraid of that day coming. The fear of that day was even greater than leaving Leshak and to never seeing him again.

But that day is here.

“He called you Blue Snake, and confessed that you were the one who killed two of my uncles, three cousins, and dozens of my loyal servants.”

“… …”

Radan swallowed a sigh inwardly.

I see, your family was among the people I killed.

Yes, it was.

It was like that from the beginning.

“And he said that you were ordered to assassinate me too. Is it true?”

It was a relationship, from the beginning, where there was no place for kindness to enter.

One was the Crown Prince of Ibeden, and the other was an assassin.

The time that Leshak didn’t know his identity was just an abnormally.

Like a dream so good, that you have no choice but to know that it is a dream, while you’re dreaming it.

“Answer me.”

The dream is over.

It was time to go back to the past, before there was a dream.

”…… Yes, Your Majesty.”

His throat hurt like he was spitting out a knife instead of words. Tears would have flowed if he hadn’t closed his eyes tightly.

“It’s…… the truth.”

“Yes, that’s why,”

“Yes…….”

A guilty conscience pressed down upon his head. Radan couldn’t bear the weight and bent his neck. Leshak’s voice fell on the exposed nape of his neck.

It was a voice that felt much heavier than Radan’s guilt.

“I’ll give you one more chance. Deny it.”

“…..What?”

Radan, who could not understand, raised his head.

That expression was still there. He was still ignorant and naive.

Leshak wanted to believe that expression. It seemed to make more sense, than to not believe it.

He asked this.

“Give me excuses. You were a prostitute, you were blind…… those lies, that you couldn’t be an assassin.

“Tell me. Trick me again.”

“… ….”

Radan didn’t understand what Leshak was saying.

If it was Radan, Leshak was going to believe it. He’d have no choice but to believe it. There was no way he could ever suspect that the words uttered with that face were a lie.

Everything he said was true. It coincided with gestures, facial expressions, and demeanor.

Radan had been a longtime prostitute, had old wounds on his body, stuttered, and like other blind men, he was accustomed to using his hands and ears. The ecstatic look on his face, that he had never eaten sweets, was even more ecstatic to the viewer.

All of that couldn’t be a lie.

He wanted to believe. He wanted to hear that everyone was mistaken. Then he was going to make Radan’s words true, even if he had cut off the heads of all the others who said they were lies.

“Speak.”

“I,I…….”

“Damn it! I told you to talk!”

“l am…… ”

But Leshak was the one making a mistake.

Radan didn’t understand the lie. He had no talent for producing lies.

“The assassin……yes, that’s correct. Majesty.”

“Damn it!”

Bang!-

Leshak hit something.

All that followed was silence.

“M,my lord……?”

“……“

Silence grew in size.

The sound of Leshak’s breathing, which was getting sharper, became like a sharp spear. The spear stabbed his dignity by his own initiative. Leshak’s expression was breaking down.

If Radan had been able to open his eyes, he would have been unable to bear the expression, and embrace Leshak.

It wasn’t just Radan whose dream had ended.

As prophesied, Radan’s identity became a snake, and it devoured Leshak’s heart. The bleeding heart shattered itself because it couldn’t overcome the pain.

Boom–

The levee broke, the remnants of a shattered heart flowed out through his eyes.

Radan heard a very small sound falling at his feet.

‘M,My Lord…….”

“……”

Radan didn’t know it, but it was tears. He couldn’t even guess.

So Leshak’s tears remained unnoticed and became nothing at all.

The tears disappeared, and the dreams that Leshak had with Radan also disappeared cleanly. All that was left for Leshak was the ruins that took the place where the heart had withered.

The person with ruins sprouting from his chest, became a completely different being than before.

Leshak opened his mouth again.

In a completely different voice than before.

“What were you going to get in return for killing me?”

“Ah…… that…….”

Radan’s answer took some time.

Radan had forgotten the price he was promised. It had lost its meaning.

“Money? Title? Is it like that?”

“M,my name…… ,”

“Name?”

Not knowing how to explain Laud’s promise, Radan hesitated for a moment.

He said he would get his name back.

Named ‘The Third Prince of Kemened’, Radan de La Ranadia. For Radan, his name meant family. But for some, it could be a title or power.

“L,let..it be written…… I’ll be given the….. f, family name…..”

Leshak interrupted Radan.

“What is your name?”

“……R,Radan.”

“And?”

Radan clenched his fists.

“Radan…… de La Rana…… dia.”

“… …”

A brief silence expressed Leshak’s feelings. No one knew what family name Ranadia was from.

“Are you saying now, that you became apart of the Kemened Royal Family in exchange for the assassination?”

Radan lowered his head.

“…… Yes, My Lord.”

“Unexpected. I was expecting more pathetic excuses. Talking of a father who has dementia, or an older brother who can’t use his legs.”

The sound of Leshak’s empty voice, left no clues as to what he was thinking.

Leshak hadn’t even know what he was talking about.

“Well, okay. It’s better if you realize that lies are of no use now.”

Leshak laughed briefly.

It was a look no one had ever seen before. If Leshak had been facing the mirror, Leshak himself would not have recognized his own face.

“I will give you another gift in return for telling the truth. Tonight, I will show you how the name you were supposed to receive completely vanishes from the continent.”

“What……?”

Radan opened his mouth. Unfortunately, this time he could understand what Leshak was saying.

It would have been better if he hadn’t heard it.

Leshak was now speaking of the end of the Kemened Royal Family.

“Until then, I will leave your eyes open.”

Leshak got up.

Radan called him in dismay.

“M,My Lord! I…… that name…… I don’t need it…now. I never……, I’m absolutely not going to harm you or anyone.”

Before, but not now. The need is gone.

Radan already traded Leshak’s life for Laud’s affection.

It was an arena where he’d already made the choice, and Radan wanted to make it known.

He wouldn’t have killed him.

Until now, and in the future.

“I,I ……,”

But it was impossible.

“Close it.”

“Yes, My Lord.”

Leshak was no longer willing to listen to Radan’s slow, clumsy words.

KaChung!-

The bar was lowered and the lattice door closed.

Leshak walked away without a single glance.

“Ah, I see…….”

Radan stretched out his hands and walked on his knees. Kneeling, which was no different from crawling, he continued to hit his forehead against the lattice door.

His shackled hands gripped the lattice door with all his might.

Gone, everything.

Everything that Leshak gave him.

All that was left was a living Leshak, and a few words that would never be repeated again.

No regrets.

Radan shivered and sobbed.

I won’t regret it.

Never!

“All…..right, My Lord.”

Leshak was too far away to hear those words.

The dawn was breaking.

Leshak looked up at the pale sky and measured the time.

About three hours had passed since the battle was over.

The ruined military camp showed bodies wherever he looked. The night time had already disappeared, but the nightmare was still ongoing.

“Majesty.”

Veroz approached Leshak.

Until recently, he had been searching the area for the second Prince of Kemened, who had fled under the guise of a soldier during the battle.

“I’m sorry, Your Majesty. The whereabouts of the fleeing enemy are unknown. I’m ashamed of myself.”

When Leshak didn’t respond, Veloz added hastily.

“Maybe there is another way that the enemies know. Otherwise, it seems unlikely that it will disappear so quickly and suddenly. Even when they made a surprise attack.”

“There is no need to pursue. His whereabouts will be revealed in time.”

Leshak cut off Veroz’s words.

“Choose a separate person to retrieve the bodies. The rest will march to Kemened.”

Leshak’s words were enough to freeze the Guardian Knights, including Veroz.

“With all due respect, Sir? Right now?”

“Yes.”

Leshak pointed to the sky where dawn was almost ending. He knew exactly the weight of what he was saying.

“If we leave within an hour, we will reach Asilah Palace by midnight. Tonight, Kemened disappears from this land.”
