The Nightmare’s Boundary

It’s midnight, Your Majesty.”

Sidris looked at Leshak with a worried expression.

He suddenly turned around on his way to the Plains of Aryan and arrived in the city of Attica three hours later.

The night wore on.

And Leshak didn’t think much of it.

“You need to get a little sleep. Leave the search to us and get some rest.”

Unfortunately, those concerns fell on deaf ears.

Leshak looked at the forces that tightly surrounded the walls of Attica. It was impossible to pass through the gates or cross the walls and avoid the Leshak army.

“What about Veroz?”

Sidris forcibly hid his worries behind his shaded complexion.

“…… We’ve been searching with Abadd. In case you didn’t know, Incris was in charge of the search of the outskirts that been done before.”

After an unsuccessful two-day search, Veroz was convinced that the party with the Unknown Assassin had returned to the city of Attica.

If not, their whereabouts after their disappearance could not be explained.

Veroz, whose mind was focused only on the escape, was hit in the head with a blow and was furious with anger.

He was as frantic as Leshak and was searching the interior of the city of Attica.

“There are enough people. We will keep searching until dawn.”

Leshak averted his eyes.

His eyes, which had lost sleep, at some point were always red. Sidris sometimes thought those bloodshot eyes looked like bloody moons.

He was worried and horrified at the same time.

Leshak’s anger towards the Unknown Assassin was natural. Everyone would think so even if he seized Radan and skinned him alive.

But when Sidris looked at those bloodshot eyes, those eyes that couldn’t sleep, he had an ominous thought that what Leshak had now was not just anger. It was for that reason that his heart was terrified.

“Get some rest, My Lord.”

Even though he knew it was of no use, he didn’t stop worrying.

Leshak let out a short sigh.

“Show me the way, I’ll join the search.”

“… …”

No words were of any use…

Unless they were about the Unknown Assassin.

“I see, My Lord.”

The city of Attica was lit up brightly at midnight.

The search torches drove the darkness out of the city of Attica.

“Fuck.”

Decker spat out a curse.

The unfiltered profanity was Amboian, but unfortunately, Radan was able to understand Amboia’s language.

It meant that things were going badly.

Radan’s face, which had been painted with clay to become like that of a patient afflicted with a horrible disease, was darkened.

“This is unexpected.”

So was Vendel’s.

By now Leshak’s forces should have begun their final battle on the Aryan Plains.

Not encircling the city of Attica so tightly water couldn’t leak out, and buzzing from house to house.

“Is it enough to say that the entire Leshak Army has come? I really don’t understand. Does it mean that after the Principality of Flambard just surrendered, they’ve just abandoned the battle at the Aryan Plains? How could someone like Leshak Caliph do such a nonsensical thing……”

Decker’s prediction that the Leshak’s forces would fight their final battle on the Aryan Plains wasn’t actually wrong.

It’s just that Decker didn’t understand that Leshak was now so much different than usual.

But Ozdin guessed why the Leshak Caliph’s madness was possible. So he felt very unclean.

It felt like something was being stolen.

Something as absolute and precious as fate.

“You must get out.”

Before that, they had had to run away. Ozdin grabbed Radan’s hand tightly. If it were possible, he wanted to hide him in his body if he could.

“There must be a way.”

Decker scratched the back of the head nervously.

“If you consider spilling some blood you can do anything……but it will be a difficult road. This opponent cannot be your adversary. If it is Ibeden then it will be difficult to handle with money…… Besides, seeing this scene gives me a very ominous feeling. Isn’t it really suspicious that the Crown Prince of the Empire moves directly for just one wanted order? Even now, as the war is about to come to an end.”

Ozdin cut Decker’s off.

“There’s no need to think about that. It doesn’t change our interests. Your job is to find a way out of here.”

“I know that. It’s just a matter of how far you are willing to go and how much you are prepared to bleed. Even if you get out of here safely, if your identity is known to the Lord in Ibeden, won’t it be a problem in the future?”

Ozdin snorted.

“It may be the foolishness of the one who wears the crown to start wars, but it is money and supplies that move those wars. Moreover, right after one long war is finished. If the First Prince of Ibeden is as smart as has been said, he would be too clever to turn Amboia into an enemy.”

“Well, it doesn’t seem very clever to confront the Crown Prince of Ibeden, but if the Lord says so…… then we’re going to pave the way. God damn it, the only thing I can believe in now is the Lord’s strong luck.”

“There is no doubt about that.”

Ozdin grabbed Radan’s hand and kissed the back of his hand.

” I have found the last piece of my life. I’m a man who has everything in the world, I’m invincible.”

“Oh, that’s a very strong statement.”

Decker made a sarcastic sound and then looked away from the window.

“Right now the Imperial Army is tightening around the inside of the city from the outside. It’s the standard procedure for hunting. There’s no way out so let’s hit it first. I’ll be grateful if we’re not devoured, but if we are, I’ll force my way out. I won’t be able to guarantee your safety at that point.”

“I understand.”

“Then let’s go.”

Decker took the lead and opened the door to the Inn.

Vendel hid Zorg in an old bag and followed behind Decker.

Before leaving the Inn Ozdin grabbed Radan’s shoulder and turn him around.

“Radan, I have something to tell you.”

“… …? Yes?”

“Don’t forget me.”

“……Yes?”

The next moment, Ozdin lowered Radan’s head and pressed his lips to it.

The nape of the neck was stung.

Ozdin gripped the soft flesh on the nape of Radan’s neck and sucked it in.

“… … !”

He almost opened his eyes. He would have if it hadn’t been for a lump of glue mixed with clay covering his eyes like crumbs.

“Why?”

His heart raced like mad.

Radan was more startled by the fact that he might have opened his eyes, rather than having been bitten.

Even though he’d lost his memories, the fact that he should not open his eyes took root even deeper than his memory.

”… …”

Ozdin wiped the saliva from his skin after completing a strange act that didn’t seem like a kiss.

“Sorry. You will be sore for a while.”

“What is this……”

“I wanted to.”

If Radan had seen the expression Ozdin’s expression had just then, he would have remembered Leshak’s from among the wreckage of the lost past.

Two people who looked completely different from one another now surprisingly had the same expression on their faces.

“You might forget about me too, and if you do, I won’t forget you.”

“… …”

It was a feeling that Radan did not understand.

“Anyway, I’m really sorry I caused you pain. If you go to Amboia, I will make it up to you.”

“I,”

Ozdin didn’t wait to listen to Radan and just pulled him along by the wrist.

“Then let’s go. We need to get out of this hellish place.”

Radan moved forward, trying to erase the tingling sensation on the back of his neck.

Aside from the desire to run away, his steps became heavier and heavier.

The mind of others became like weight, and he carried on his feet.

Vendel had once advised that Ozdin never open his heart as Ozdin had never been sincere to anyone, and even now it might be a fleeting whim, but Vendell may have been thinking wrong.

“I can not make any……promises.”

In the end, Radan had to say this.

“Because I’ve already lost my memory once. I mean, it could happen in the future…….I can’t promise.”

Ozdin’s pulled him with more strength.

“I know. That’s why I hurt you. You will never forget me as long as it hurts.”

“I can’t promise.”

“That’s alright. I will not lose you.”

“I,”

“Stop. Unless you want another bite.”

Ozdin decisively grabbed Radan and pulled him away. Radan still didn’t understand him.

“Don’t be nervous. Mr. Radan.”

Radan, who was about to swallow nonexistent saliva, suppressed his movements at those words.

Now their party was standing in line through the eastern gate.

Coincidentally, it was the spot where he was standing a few days before.

Decker hired two blind men to line up in front of and behind the party respectively. One was an older man, and the other was about the same age as Radan.

In addition, Decker said that he had his attendants prepared everywhere.

All Radan had to do was hide his nervousness and pass Leshak’s forces as Ozdin led him.

“Well, we’re almost there.”

Vendel informed the situation ahead.

“Hey, there! Are you blind?”

Leshak found one of them. Tension arose at the word blind.

“Yes, but.”

It was the older man.

While the blind man responded as though he didn’t understand, Leshak’s forces surrounded him.

“Check his hands, Veroz.”

It was Abadd’s voice.

Radan unconsciously responded to the familiar voice. Ozdin, noticing that his shoulder was shrinking, embraced him with one arm.

“Shh. It’s okay.”

It was another situation where the connection between Radan and Leshak’s army was revealed.

Meanwhile, Veroz rolled up the blind man’s sleeve and checked the wrinkles on the back of his hand.

“No.”

“Shit.”

Abadd rolled his eyes.

“Send him on.”

“Yes, Sir Bereri.”

He opened the way that the Leshak army had blocked.

As if lost for a moment, the blind man found his way by tapping the ground with his cane. But no one was kind enough to guide him through the gates.

“Next.”

A familiar voice was approaching.

A cold sweat ran down the back of his neck. Ozdin grabbed his hand, but he couldn’t feel it.

“Pass. Next.”

Those words came from right next to him. Radan tried desperately not to collapse.

“What…… Why is your face like this? What are you wearing?”

Vendell stepped forward and shook his head.

“It’s because I have a gimmal disease.”

“Gimmal disease?”

“It is a common disease in the South. One can move but once they get sick, this is what happens to you. So they are ostracized, that’s why we have to leave this place and go back where we used to live.”

Vendell skillfully mumbled the southern dialect of the continent. Meanwhile, Zorg, who was hiding in the bag, cleverly noticed the situation and did not move.

“Are all three of them gimmally?”

“Oh, not now. The disease is gone. There is absolutely no way to transfer the disease.”

“Really?”

The soldier looked at Abadd.

“What shall we do, Sir Bereri? Shall I pass them?”

“Wait a moment.”

Abadd came over.

“Bring the torch. I’ll have to check.”

Radan couldn’t see him, but he could feel him. That the owner of that known voice is staring at him.

Radan felt a sharp gaze that made his skin tingle.

“They are similar in size.”

Veroz added his gaze from behind Abadd’s back.

“I see it, and he really is. You, raise your head.”

The soldier handed the torch to Abadd as Radan held his breath.

“Here, take it.”

Then he felt a hot fire in front of his nose. Abadd held out his torch and looked into Radan’s face.

He tried to look.

“Ick! There! What are you!?”

Decker reacted just in time.

Decker deliberately made a pre-hired blind man, about the same age as Radan,

fall.

“… … !”

As if he had been prearranged in advance, the blind man slowly took a step backward.

It looked suspicious to anyone.

“There, stop! Sir Bereri! There is a blind man over there!”

“Where?”

The torch, which was approaching menacingly as if it was about to touch his nose, hurriedly turned in the opposite direction.

In the meantime, Ozdin pulled Radan.

Decker grabbed the blind man that began to run away from the gate.

“Escape!”

“Catch him!”

Leshak’s forces, including Abadd, began to pursue Decker.

Ozdin saw it and smiled.

“Now we’re almost done.”

He whispered into Radan’s ear.

Soon there will be a fire burning at the gate of the city. Decker planned that the secret guards would open the gates by force while the Leshak army, who was controlling the gates, struggled to put out the fire.

“We’ll be out of here soon. No need to be nervous.”

Ozdin grabbed Radan’s shoulder.

Then,

Boom!

Fireworks soared above the wall.

It sounded like Decker’s plan was going well.

“Damn it, it’s a fire!”

“Oh no!”

Agitation spread throughout the Leshak army. Ozdin took Radan’s hand and counted, ready to run any time.

He was going to run out to the city gate on the count of ten.

One, two, three……

“……”

However, the numbers did not follow.

Abadd, who was chasing Decker, suddenly stopped.

“What happened?”

There was nothing wrong with Decker.

Regardless, another problem arose. The problem was that Leshak Caliph was approaching their way without even giving a glance to the blind man he had hired as bait.

Leshak didn’t care whether Decker ran or not.

He walked straight their way.

Ozdin’s eyes fluttered.

Radan couldn’t catch up. Should he just run away as it is now, or should he trust and wait for Decker or another attendant to find another way?

Meanwhile, Leshak approached the city gate.

The closer he got, the more his gaze was veiled in darkness. Both eyes were looking straight at Radan.

As though he knew who Radan was from afar.

Just like he can recognize any disguise at a glance.

“… …”

Ozdin grabbed Radan and tried to hide him behind his back. He felt anxious fingertips gripping the hem of his clothes. The harsh sound of breathing drenched his spine.

Before Ozdin embraced the trembling Radan, Leshak opened his mouth.

“I finally found you.”

He said.

Leshak reached out and grabbed Radan’s shoulder.

His lips were open with his teeth exposed. The eyes that had been wandering in a nightmare were clearly focused.

Leshak picked up Radan’s distinct smell.

He picked up on his body temperature and presence.

The line between nightmare and reality has melted away.

The pain in his heart that recurred every day was in front of his eyes, with a human face.

Leshak said.

“Radan.”

Called.
