I will die and make your life miserable

The person picked up his cell to see who had messaged only to see that it was a video sent from an unknown number. At first he was sceptical about it but eventually decided to play the video.

"Confess about your a..."

"We have been given the assignment to go to the Pyramids exploration site and destroy each and every piece of equipment ....."

By the end of the video, the man was shaking visibly. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead and even in this cold winter night his shirt was stuck to his back.

What he saw was something that couldn't be explained but he knew that this video was related to him, because the man who called for the hit was Dr. Samuel Livingstone himself.

It was he who had ordered the hit on the exploration team. This video is the evidence that he was responsible. Once the handler, if caught, blurts out the name, he would be in trouble. He started pacing to figure out what message the sender wanted to convey.

He tried calling back only to be told that the number didn't exist. This meant that whoever had sent it to him knew his identity and was smart enough to mask his number.

As time went by, he felt more tensed. He could already recognize this as a form of intimidation and notice that they knew that he was responsible and he might be sued later. Livingstone, once had been humiliated for multiple sessions in family court. He had tried his best and used everything in his power to get custody of his daughter. But in the end the judge ruled against his favor since he was proven an adulterer in court .

His ex-wife was quite cunning and had gathered quite a bit of evidence against him. He was only allowed to meet his daughter twice a month. Even then as the years went by, his daughter grew distant and she already lost respect for him.

He was devastated at this. Now here he was again, at the same crossroads. Once sued, he would be brought to court. And this time it would be for grave charges. It might not actually be of any significance and there might not even be jail time for him as he could just pay off and be done with it, however his reputation will be forever tarnished if handler confessed that he commissioned the hit.

His was in great turmoil and went into a deep anxious state. This prevailed for quite some time before he went to the a hidden drawer and opened it.....

-----

"Do you know what mistake you made?"

"Yes, I shouldn't have kicked the first guy. I should have made sure that he didn't scream like he did. Maybe by placing a knife at his throat."

"Correct, well you aren't completely dumb after all."

Robin felt ashamed but didn't deny that he had been quite idiotic in his first rodeo and he was very close to messing it up. Of course, Robin did have the capacity to correct everything. His words of power were enough to bring down cities, a small gang is nothing. But it wouldn't be neat.

"It's late anyways. I am off to sleep." Robin suggested as it was really a little late. They had been discussing about the mission and what mistakes were made in the execution. Both Myrene and Sigret suggested he should learn the sneak skills from the Skyrim in the meantime to awaken his warrior instinct instead of just increasing strength and learning moves.

Tuesday, 27th December.

Robin woke up early only to see Sigret standing in the door looking at him with unblinking eyes.

"Can you not do that? You are creeping me out." Sigret didn't care about that and said

"There is good news and bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?"

"It's still early. Please tell me the good news."

"Omari and his gang confessed. As the children he killed were of a rich and influential family, the police were fast and they collected all the evidence. The handler was caught quickly. The family was informed and it seems like there are dark days ahead for the gang. I have already arranged for some people to kill the rapists and murderers in prison."

"Well, that suffices as good news. What is the bad news?"

"Dr. Samuel Livingstone was found dead. His corpse was found in bed with a shot which went right through his brain. He shot himself."

"What?"

"Yup."

"But why? What we sent him wasn't enough to incriminate him. At best he would have to pay for bail and get out."

"You don't understand. He had held that prestigious position for quite a long time. And if he did have to bail himself out, his career would be over. He would be shunned by all of academia and humiliated. Plus, I think the major reason was he didn't want his daughter to think of him as a criminal. He already was drinking too much due to the circumstances recently. I think the fear and anxiety took its toll on him."

Robin was a dumbfounded by this news. He didn't expect this. When he sent that video, it was mainly for Livingstone to realize what kind of deep shit he was in. He didn't think much nor did he think that this person would ever do that.

He wasn't a good person for sure as JARVIS said that he had made many students' lives hell and even stopped the dreams of many young minds who wanted to try something different in archaeology. But that didn't warrant death. If he was too cruel, then maybe suspension and since he got himself mixed in criminal activity, he might have been forced to resign.

But in no way death was the end result he wanted for this person. Robin hung his head in shame as he thought that one small move for him had killed someone innocent.

"You are thinking that he is innocent. Aren't you?"

Robin didn't reply and spaced out.

"He wasn't innocent. If we hadn't stopped him, he would have gone away with it. Someone else would have got hurt. And committing suicide was his decision. He decided to be a coward."

"But at least nobody would have died."

"Listen up.. Whatever you do, however you shape the future, people will be affected. Some will rise while others will fall. You want to change the world but you are naive if you think people will not die. Even a small move of yours will ruin the lives of many. That's what change means. You can try to lower the death toll but that is all. If there is no change then this world wouldn't be able to progress. If you think that such cases will never happen again then I think you are not fit to be a commander."

Robin looked at furious eyes of Sigret when she spoke those bold words. He could feel that she was annoyed by Robin's behavior. She was actively trying to mold him as a better person and someone who could bring the winds of change that this planet required. In a way, she also wanted to get rid of the filth of this world.

Humanity has progressed a lot from the brutal violent times in the past but still had a lot to do. As his protector she wanted nothing more but to see him stand at the top. Of course, Robin would argue against it as he would definitely say that he wasn't fit to rule but at least give humanity better leaders and more peace instead of all these incompetent leaders who just think of lining their pockets.

"Leave me for some time.. I want to be alone." Robin said.

Sigret stomped away from his room. She said what was needed. Now it depended on Robin and how he would take the news.

Robin then spent the entirety of the day in bed, just lying down. In order to distract himself he started playing games. Without thinking he hopped on to COD (Call of Duty) and just started playing the PvP mode.

Right now only such games would take him out of the sense of guilt that he was feeling and move on. The rest of the day he continued doing the same thing. He didn't even bother to go out of his room to eat. Myrene brought him food and he just ate it beside his laptop.

She felt sad but also understood that Robin needed space and this was probably the best way. She just hoped that this incident didn't change him much and he will remain the same.
