Chapter 25: Operation meeting to counterattack

I asked Fred and Basten to come back once for a meeting to fight back.

It's the cheat of shadow migration that it's so easy to come back even when you're far away.

In my room at the boarding house, I spread out a piece of paper on a small table and put together a summary of the main points.

When I was ready, Reinhardt asked me a question.

'Master Kent, do you remember the three tasks we talked about earlier?'

Well, how and where to get in, and who's on the inside?

Yes, I've secured a deal from Lord Krauss to host one of them, so we have two tasks remaining.

'Yes, but there's one more thing I'd like to make them hurt, I'm not convinced they're going to leave me beaten, and I feel like I'm going to get licked when I negotiate.'

Right, so let's add counterattack to the list of items.

"How to get out, inside man, how to fight back.

We will write on the paper we spread out in our own script.

If I write it in Japanese, Reinhardt and the others won't be able to read it.

If Amanda-san or Meisa-chan sees me, they might get suspicious, so I'm going to keep the note in the shadow storage.

''First of all, as for the rescue method, we found out that we can't use the shadow movement, so we still have no choice but to exit the Demon Forest, but we have to get out of the garrison first.''

"Yeah, that's the thing, though, it's still better to save them all at once, right?

''Well, that would be ideal. If we split it up into several parts, they'll be wary of us, and there's a good chance we'll lose our strength.'

"Our strength is that we can move around freely using our shadows, right?

Of course, that's part of it, but I'd say the fact that we're not even known to each other is our strength.

"Oh, well, they thought I was dead.

Yes, if they don't think he's there, then of course he won't be alerted.

'Well, it's a lot easier to do things when you're not on your guard.

We want to rescue our classmates, but from the point of view of Camilla and the others who don't know of our existence, all they can think about is not letting our classmates escape.

Naturally, they will be less cautious because of that.

''So that means we can't be noticed, right?''

Of course, if they knew we existed, for example, we would only have to deal with an unidentified monster, but as for dark-haired, dark-eyed Kent-sama, I think it would be best if he wasn't seen until after we have rescued everyone.

If that was the case, it might be better to have Reinhardt and the others move outwardly, but then people might think it was a demon summoned by Volzard's side, and most importantly, they wouldn't think that all of their classmates were on their side.

Or rather, is it possible to rescue everyone from that garrison at once?

The garrison is surrounded by a high wall, and there is a soldier's station at a solid gate.

The place is on the outskirts of the city, but to get to the Demon Forest, you have to cross the river, and the bridge is a drawbridge to prevent demons from attacking.

Naturally, there's a choke point in the embankment of the drawbridge, and by all accounts, it's unlikely you'll be able to escape without causing a commotion.

If a commotion occurs, of course they will be pursued, and it's going to be more and more difficult to rescue them.

''Hmmm........all of them at once.......that's difficult.''

"Master Kent I have an idea for you...

'Ideas? What is it?

"How about we take advantage of the actual battle in the Devil's Forest...?

Fred's idea was to rescue his classmates during the actual battle that was to take place in the Devil's Forest.

This would save the trouble of rescuing them from the garrison, and of course, the chance of a commotion would be greatly reduced.

"Kent-sama, this may be a good idea, since we will only have a limited number of soldiers to lead us in battle, and we won't have to worry about reinforcements coming in.

'Well, if they didn't expect us to be there, they'd only be worried about escaping.

"No, Master Kent, I'm sure you're not worried about your escape, after all, if you're left here in the Devil's Forest...

'Well, you're in a situation where you'd rather have to take me home.

''Yes, even if you were able to escape from the spot, you won't be able to escape with the servant's arm band on, so you'll have no choice but to return to the garrison eventually.

In a situation where I'm not even thinking about a rescue mission from the outside, and there's almost no fear of escape, I feel that the knights leading the group are quite less vigilant.

Now it's just a matter of what kind of procedure to rescue them.

As I was twisting my head, Basten came up with an idea.

''Kent-sama, don't you think it's better for us to attack like demons here?

"Attacking me is no match for my classmates and bastards.

''I understand, so I'm going to ask you to suffer a little bit, but how about letting your fellow students fall into a coma and get rid of the knights who are leading you?

"I see........but.........

Is there a problem?

Do I have to kill the knight in command?

"I suppose it's best to get rid of him, so there's no harm done.

Hmmm...

Certainly, as Basten said, it would be better to kill the knight, so there would be no need to worry about information being leaked.

If we return them alive, there's no doubt that information about the unidentified skeleton will be passed on and the vigilance will increase.

But if we kill them, I feel that they will hold a grudge against us, and we won't be able to proceed well when we negotiate to return to the original world.

I talked about those thoughts and asked for everyone's opinion.

''What do you think, Reinhardt?''

''Yes, it is true that resentment could derail later negotiations. On the other hand, if they're alarmed, it may be difficult to rescue them. Which would be the priority?''

''Yes, it's not good enough to not be able to return to the original world after all, so I'm going to try not to kill them as much as possible. Can you do that? 'Basten'

"Leave it to us. We'll show you a little hardship and we'll shatter it.

"Yes, thank you, please.

I feel a little lighter now that I have a better idea of how to rescue my classmates.

''Kent-sama, if you want to proceed with the rescue mission, you have to be ready to go.

'Oh, well, I'll have to talk to Klaus and others about it.

''That's also true, but it will take two to three days to walk through the Demon Forest. You'll also need to prepare water, food, and a tent for that time.

I see........I was relying on everyone else for food and other things. If there are more people, we need to prepare accordingly...

According to Reinhardt, the Knights of Riesenburg act as one unit of five men.

A group of five people has one leader, and the squad leader is the one who unites the five groups.

It is said that the leader of five groups is the squad leader, and the one who unites the five squads is the squad leader.

''So, does that mean we should prepare for five people as one unit and prepare several of them?''

''That's what I'm thinking, and I'm sure it will vary depending on the size of the actual battle in the Demon Forest, but I think we'll probably start with about 20 people.''

''Then I should be able to prepare for about thirty people with plenty of time to spare?''

'Well, I can put it in the shadow storage, so you'd better make room for it.

Even though I want to rescue my classmates as soon as possible, I am acutely aware that I am not prepared for anything.

To begin with, we don't even know where to get a large amount of food, tents, etc.

''Kent-sama........don't worry.......''

"What? Why?

"I will get it from the garrison...

'Oh, I see... but won't they know?'

"If you pluck it out afterwards they won't find out...

I had asked Fred to list the equipment for the garrison, and it would be helpful.

The number of supplies is controlled, of course, and they check the number of items in and out each time, but the total number of items is only checked at a rate of once per period of time.

Therefore, if the items that are piled up in large quantities are extracted from the back using a shadow transfer, there is almost no worry that they will be found out until the time of the total number check.

''Kent-sama, even if they find out, they will only be suspected of having been diverted by an unwary person, and our existence, which doesn't even leave a trace of intrusion, will not be noticed at first.''

"Yeah, right, so, Fred, I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to ask you to grab a few things that you might need and put them in the shadow compartment.

Copy that....

We will now have the goods we need for the rescue and we won't have to worry about it.

Now we just need to bring everyone to Volzard and have them welcome us in.

''Hmmm.......I guess I should talk to the garrison as well......and the servant's bracelet......''

"Master Kent I have found the bracelet...

"Fred, you work fast.

I received the bracelet Fred offered me from the shadow space.

The bangles, which looked like carved obsidian, were not as heavy as they looked.

As I took the bracelet in my hand and focused my attention on it to see if it would give me any clues, an image flowed into my head.

''Ugh........this is.......''

"Are you alright, Master Kent?

''Yeah, unlike the ones I picked up in the Devil's Forest, it seems to have an extremely complex formula.

"Well, then, it may have been made especially for this summoning.

Although only one person, probably Camilla, is able to remove the bracelet, it seems to be a technique that does not allow the person wearing the bracelet to use violence against anyone they perceive to be a resident of Riesenburg.

It's a good idea to have a good idea of what to do. It's usually a technique that is owned by an individual and cannot be resisted by that individual.

Reinhardt said that the common slave bangles do not have a magic pattern engraved on them before they are fitted, and the magic pattern is engraved when the would-be owner fits the slave.

When I closed the bracelet to try it out, I could no longer pull it off, and I could hardly see the seam.

When I focused my attention in that state, it was indeed locked with not my magic pattern, but someone else's magic pattern.

When I focused my consciousness even more and interrupted the magic pattern, I heard a small click and the bracelet was split in two.

''Yes, don't worry, you can remove these bangles too.''

''Excellent, indeed, Master Kent, I've heard that even dark mages have a difficult time removing the braces of servitude.

''When I rescue my classmates, do you want me to put some demon blood on the bracelet I took off and throw it away?

'That's good, because then you wouldn't have been rescued, you would have been killed by a demon.

'Well, you have to be as dead as I am.

In order to rescue them, take off their braces and bring them to Volzard to be accepted, I think it would be less confusing to talk to the garrison people, after all.

''For now, we have to go to Klaus-san's place first thing in the morning, and after that, we have to let Kurtz-san's place and Donovan-san know about it, right?

"My Lord Kent my saint...

''Oh, well, if you think too many people died at once, the chairman of the committee might collapse again.

The person to contact was supposed to be Ayako-sensei, but now that it's come to this, I think I'll contact the chairperson of the committee and ask her to let everyone know how well she's doing with the treatment.

"Mr. Kent, we need to get this right or we'll lose our edge.

''Yes, I have a feeling that the chairman of the committee would rather do better than Ayako-sensei.''

"How do you wish to contact the man?

''Hmmm ... let's see how it goes for a bit ... we shouldn't spread my presence around too much, right?''

''Well, if you're rescuing them from the garrison, it would be better to let them know, but if you're bringing them in from the Demon Forest, it would be better not to let them know.''

For now, I'll hold off on contacting Ayako-sensei for a bit.

''Speaking of which, Basten, what was it like in King's Landing?''

"I'm sorry, Master Kent, but I've actually already ventured out into the Davila Desert.

'Oh, yeah, it doesn't matter which one comes first, it's fine. So, how was the desert?'

'Yes, to be honest, the situation was even worse than I had imagined.

According to Basten, the town that used to border the desert has been completely swallowed up by the sand and is now part of the desert.

On the contrary, the sand has swallowed up many of the towns to the east of it, and the sand has gotten into the fields of the current town on the border with the desert, making it difficult for crops to grow.

Perhaps it is because of the stunted growth of crops, people's lives are poor and it is not uncommon for children to be apparently malnourished.

'But things aren't that bad in the city of Rustock, are they?

"Not as rich as Volzard but not as poor as...

Aren't lords and royalty supposed to take care of things like this?

'Yes, that's the way it would be in a normal situation.

Does that mean something out of the ordinary is happening?

"I'm sorry, Master Kent, if I'd checked the King's Landing...

''No, no, then we don't know what's going on in the desert, so it's not Basten's fault, no matter how much shadow shifting you can do, you only have one body, so you can't check everything.

''Yes, tomorrow I'll try to find out what the nobles in King's Landing are doing, so please wait a little longer.

'Yeah, we're in no hurry over there, and we'll have to get you back during the rescue mission, so you don't have to push yourself.

Apparently, the problem of desertification is more serious than I thought, and this is definitely the reason why Camilla is in a hurry to get things done.

''But, if we're going to rush to cultivate the demon forest, shouldn't we just do it ourselves?

"Master Kent, I fear you are short on talent.

"Well I don't think there's a whole squad of people in the garrison...

'But since it's a national issue, why don't we get people from elsewhere?'

Perhaps the only forces at the princess's disposal are the people in that garrison.

Somehow, based on the information so far, it seems to me that everyone other than Camilla is reluctant to take measures against desertification, and Camilla is relying on summoning magic because she lacks the human resources to be free.

If that's the case, I feel like we should treat her more decently.

''What's wrong? Mr. Kent.

"Yes, I told you that our country is at peace?

"Yes, the more peaceful it is, the more blurry it is...

'Not quite, but okay, and you know, it's just the nature of my country that I feel enthusiastic when I'm asked to do something.

Does that mean that as long as he was treated well and asked for help, the alumni and others cooperated willingly?

'Yes, in our world, magic only exists in fairy tales, and just being able to use magic is exciting and exciting.

Does that mean that the princess is doing it wrong?

'Yes, if you treat people like slaves, you'll be repulsive, won't you?

''Well........it's certainly not a complimentary treatment, but there may be a reason for it.

"d*mn... what is that evil princess thinking?

I feel that if I know what Camilla is thinking, it might help me rescue my classmates, but on the other hand, once I understand her thoughts, I feel that I won't be able to blame her once I understand her thoughts.

''Master Kent, I still don't have enough information. Let Basten explore some more before we think about it.''

'Yeah, well, if you speculate too much, you'll make a mistake.

''Yes, perhaps, but I have a feeling that it's a rather deep-rooted issue, involving royalty and nobility.

'Ugh I can't solve that problem.

It's hard to believe that I, as a mere child, can solve a problem that involves such an important man of the country, and even just hearing that makes me feel a heavy burden.

The problem has grown to that extent, it's not something that can be solved by an individual's power.

"Hey, what do you guys want to do?

"What? We...?

''Yes, the country has changed in shape since Reinhardt and the others were alive, and I'm sure the royals don't know each other, and I don't know the people who live there, but it's still the country that Reinhardt and the others lived in, right?''

"True, Master Kent is right, but I'm afraid we're all dead already...

Reinhardt's words were laced with a sense of confusion.

''Yes, that's true. But, you know, Reinhardt and the others are people who worked to improve their country and their territory, right? 'Is Riesenburg going to stay the way it is?'

That's ... that I hadn't thought of.

'Reinhardt, Basten, and Fred stayed behind to protect me, but I think I want everyone's wishes to be fulfilled, too, anyway.

Our hope?

''Yes, getting all of my classmates out of there and back into the world is my top priority, and in order to do that, I need Reinhardt and the others to help me, but I don't want to force everyone to do something they don't want to do.''

Maybe, even at this point, with the full power of Reinhardt and his team, they could solve the problem by threatening Camilla with killing all the soldiers in the garrison, rescuing her classmates, and threatening to kill all the people in the city of Rustock if they don't get them back to their original world.

But I don't think that's the solution that Reinhardt and the others want.

Some of the knights in the garrison might be relatives of Reinhardt and his friends, or descendants of people they know.

If Camilla kills all the knights that she can mobilize, it might cause a lot of people to die because of the delay in combating desertification.

And yet, there may be people in King's Landing who are doing nothing but sucking the sweet juice.

Such an ending, I don't think that Riesenburg is the future that Reinhardt and the others wanted when they were alive.

I don't know, Reinhardt.

"Well, you're right, Master Kent, the future of Riesenburg today is not quite what we envisioned when we lived.

''Isn't there something we can do for you, Commander?

"If I could use the body you gave me, Master Kent, I would give it to my country for my people.

Everyone's thoughts about Riesenburg seem to flow into the room.

We will be the swords and shields that will help Kent accomplish his wishes. But if you will allow us to work for the people of Riesenburg and the people of Landshört, we would like to work for the people of Riesenburg and the people of Landshört.

'Of course, you're all my family, so your family's wishes are my wishes.

"Thank you for your kind words, we three will serve you with all our might until our bodies fall to pieces.

'Yes, so we'll rescue my classmates, but we'll do it in a way that will make the future of Riesenburg brighter, is that okay?

I have no objection to that.

It's not right to treat everyone as if they are treated as slaves while resenting being treated as slaves, right?

I'll find a way to give you both what you want and what I want.

"Let's just let Mr. Kent be the king...

"Wait, Fred, what are you talking about? I'm not the king of anything.

''No, no, no, no, it's safe to say that your age has the keen eye to see the problem of desertification just by looking at a map.

'No, no, Basten, that was just because we happened to be talking about desertification in school class.

'Bu-ha-ha, if the royals are playing around, let's wipe them out and let Master Kent rule the country.

"Yes King Kent, that's right!

"Robbing the country, your arms are tapping.

'No, no, I can't be a king, I'm not going to be a king, I'm not going to do that, hey, hey, are you guys listening?'

Huh? It seems like people are starting to ask for some kind of disturbing advice, maybe it's just my imagination, right? Right? Hey, tell me you're imagining things.
