Chapter 13: Demonic Legion VS Brilliant Templars!

Except, this wasn't a signal for the dozen red-wearing foxes. No, this one was for the remaining foxes lying in ambush nearby! They instantly went to work!
The various magic users were still trying to recruit the "mysterious strangers" when it happened — WhOOOSHHH!!! A shower of fire befell them!

"W-what?! Crap, we're under attack!"
"Fireballs! Quick, water shields up!"
"Who dares?! Show yourself, villain!"
As if on cue, a bunch of black-robed individuals appeared and began throwing fireballs all over the place! Oh, but that wasn't all:
"Kakakakaka!" The arsonists evilly cackled, monstrously sounding. Those fuckers had to be insane... Who else would randomly target a poor district?!
That's when the "leader" of the evil guys came forward.
"Trying to stop us? Fools, the Demonic Legion's unstoppable!" The mysterious being theatrically raised his hands as if a provocation.
The fox was doing the acting, but Jack was doing the voicing; none the wiser! He truly felt like an overlord bragging about his evil designs at the moment!
The foxes all shivered: their master was so cool!
"As for you, the Templars of the Brilliant Light, today you all die!" Jack declared as he menacingly pointed at the red-wearing "strangers".
Along with his shout, the foxes came back to their senses. That's right: they had a job to do!
Under the stunned gaze of the bystanders, the two mysterious groups (red and black) rushed at one another as if mortal enemies!
Mere seconds later, fireballs began flying from both sides.
Not just a few… a shitload! The entire world turned red!
The bystanders held to their defensive magic for dear life, their eyes bulging as they witnessed spells worthy of archmages thrown out like mere fireworks.
They all felt like they were dreaming... or perhaps having a nightmare.
"Pinch me someo— ouch! All of it is real?!"
"Brilliant Templars? Demonic Legion?"
"T-they're all monsters?!"
They felt like their soul would escape them at any moment. How could anyone be that strong?! Not just one, but two factions to boot!
Little did they all know that all of it was half-illusions. Fiery foxes were innately talented at using fire and were especially great at handling "Fiery-Fox-Fire".
What appeared like a fight worthy of Titans… was just foxes playing catch with fireballs. Jack had expressly ordered them to make it as flashy as possible.
As the world-shattering "fight" intensified, the bystanders saw their lives flash before their eyes. But just when they thought they'd perish for sure… the two groups took the fighting elsewhere!
They suddenly dashed away, so fast! They left in their wake a blazing trail that was seemingly alive and following them. How crazy!
Then it reached its culmination, the leader of the "Demonic Legion" wrathfully screaming as he retreated:
"Dammnit! I'll be back! The City of Dawn will Burn! It will fall under the joust of the Eternal, Never to be Named, All-Seeing, Darth, Papa John!"
Then all disappeared as quickly as they had arrived.
It was as if it had all been nothing but a mirage... except they knew it had been real!
The people left behind glanced at one another, shell-shocked. They had actually survived?! At that moment, many engraved the name "Brilliant Templars" in their heart.
Were they to meet them in the future, they'd definitely need to thank them for their efforts... and recruit them for sure!
Still, they reluctantly turned back toward the fire, and it didn't take long to extinguish it. But even when calm returned, many found themselves staring into the distance, absent-minded.
They didn't even react as a bunch of soldiers showed up.
On their chest was the hexagon representing the City's Civil servants: they were investigators.
At first, the newcomers rejoiced: there were so many witnesses! Someone had to have seen the culprit, right? But as they proceeded with their investigation, their blood turned cold.
The more they learned, the more of a headache they got, and the more their blood pressure rose. What the heck had actually happened here?!
1. The Crime Scene was utterly destroyed
2. The witnesses all seemed to be exaggerating
3. The culprits were clear as day…. but unknown
4. Their motive was bloody crazy: they wanted to destroy Dawn City?!
It was a bloody shitshow!
The investigators that had been ready to hunt and apprehend a rogue arsonist suddenly found themselves thrown in the middle of a war between two hidden factions?!
Not only were both mysterious, but they had vanished from thin air! Didn't this mean that they had an ally in Dawn City?! Just the implications were enough to chill their bones.
This was way above their pay grade!
Sadly, it was far too late to hide the information.
An hour after the events, "Brilliant Templars" and "Demonic Legion" were already on the lips of all the drunkards in the City of Dawn.
Two hours later, a certain world-renowned bard had already composed an Epic about it.
Three hours later, the City Lords met for an extraordinary meeting.
Four hours later, Jack relaxed amidst a bed of soft foxes, not a worry in the world. He even gently rubbed his minions' bellies as they planned their next heist. (He still needed books!)
At least the foxes had learned a lot about acting, and they'd definitely be more prepared next time!
As for all the trouble that their little stunt had caused? Meh, who cared? People would soon get bored of such unfounded rumors, right? In a week, they'd have forgotten all about it.
Plus, now, no one would ever believe foxes to be the true culprits!
But his peaceful moment was suddenly interrupted by an earth-shattering roar. It contained so much power and anger that the walls shook!
"Where is he?! Bring me to Jack Bright at once!" It was a woman's voice… but not the Flame Lord. What?! Why?! Who was that even?
He turned to the foxes to ask them but suddenly froze.
A couple had already pissed themselves?! WTF?!
