Chapter 70: Mastermind! Puppet Master!

That's when the sky seemed to fall.
The ginormous water whale crashed, a spell so huge it would flatten an entire Dawn District underneath, its aura along traumatizing.
This was POWER!
Jack saw it magnify before his eyes.
BA-DUMP! This was the power he wanted.
Just as the foxes were freaking out, the Whale suddenly stilled, turning into countless Water Snakes that swam in the air toward the assassins.
-- Constrict! Constrict! Constrict! --
Their fate had been sealed that easily.
The things invaded their limbs, bodies, and even all of their orifices, restraining them completely. They couldn't even bite the poison capsules hidden in their mouths!
The only thing awaiting them would be torture and endless regret. They'd face the Water Lord's wrath until they begged for the sweet release of death and spilled all their secrets.
They'd--
"Woo!" (This is BAD!)
"Woo!" (They can't live!)
At this moment, the foxes suddenly recalled the Old Ghost's words. As long as those assassins existed, their Master would be in peril!
That's when a collective burst of madness took them. Instead of staying put or rejoicing... they charged forth! Seeing this, Jack almost wanted to face-palm.
"Woo?!" (Dude just summoned a Water Apocalypse! Don't mess with him!)
But, they were way too fast for him to change their mind... or anyone really. They all lunged toward the assassins, maws first. They'd bite their jugulars, even if it killed them!
The Water Lord instantly reacted.
"Trying to save them?! Die, you-- Wait, what... Fiery Foxes?!"
He stopped the Water Snakes from tearing the attackers apart in a hurry. Good thing he had noticed, or he would have gotten an earful from the Flame Lord.
It seemed like they were the ones that had chased the assassins and allowed him to find them. But now that he was here, they could finally rest easy.
"Stand down! I'll take care of it all." He told them.
That's when Jack felt the foxes' uneasiness. The assassins' HAD to die! At this moment, he felt their resolve; they'd go even against the Water Lord if they had to!
He felt their muscles tense, ready to fight and--
"Woo!" (You guys? Won't change your mind?)
Jack asked, and they all wooed in agreement, the light of insanity in their eyes. He could only sigh as he kept going. "Woo!" (Fine, but listen. First, put his guard down, then...)
For half an instant, it almost felt like the Water Lord would have to fight it out with them. But then another fox intervened, and all the other foxes stood down.
Actually, there was something strange about this fox... even to the Water Lord. He had seen many things in his career, but never a fox like this!
The light in its eyes didn't belong to a fox, not at all! Then there was the effect it had on the rest of the group: they listened to it? Had this fox evolved? How peculiar! What kind of--
Just as Jack sensed the man lost in his thoughts, he gave the order!
"WOO!" (NOW! Do it!)
Instantly, the "peaceful" foxes turned rabid as they attacked! They covered the last few meters, reaching the bound assassins! Then they followed Jack's directives:
"Woo!" (First group! Fire volley!)
Fireballs landed on the Bindings' outer edge, making them explode in a burst of steam. The foxes behind didn't hesitate to push through as they disappeared in it.
"Woo!" (Second group! Fire claws!)
They swung burning claws at the few remaining Water snakes. The foxes were akin to predators snatching their prey in a heartbeat. The way was opened!
"Woo!" (Third group! ASSASSINATE!)
The rest of the foxes finally made it to the assassins! As their maws reached their exposed necks, everyone in place rejoiced... all except the Water Lord. "GODDAMMIT!!"
But it was already too late. The sharp teeth landed on the soft skin and-- CLANG!... didn't penetrate?! It was as if their skin had turned harder than Adamantium!
There was an extremely thin layer of Water, a last-second move by the Water Lord! "Made it! Shit, that was close! I swear I'll skin those dumb--"
Even a man in his position couldn't help but curse. What had the bloody foxes even been thinking?! There was something wrong with their brains, for sure!
Sad woos echoed, the foxes realizing they had failed... only for a chuckle to resound. As they turned to Jack, the latter pointed at the assassins in the Water Prison.
Their faces were purple... they had used the distraction to commit suicide!
"WHAT?!" The Water Lord's tongue hung in disbelief.
What had... it was all that fox's fault! This weird fox had planned for it from the start, hadn't it?! As he gazed at the offender, the latter simply smiled back wryly.
"Y-you! You, you, it's all your fault! I'll SKIN YOU!"
His scream was enough to shake the air, the foxes, and even the streets all around. But just as he prepared to punish the mutt, it too trembled.. .and fell down?!
As it struggled to get up, there was something strange about it. The light in its eyes was gone, and it seemed utterly confused about what it was doing in the alley. "Woo?!"
It had returned to being a regular fox, the Water Lord suddenly feeling uneasy. Had this been a spell? Druid Magic? Puppet Magic? Mind Control? All were SCARY!
Just as his mind was going crazy with possibilities...
"Skin my FOXES?! Do you dare?!" The Flame Lord finally arrived!
At this moment, even she was baffled by the scene. What the hell had happened in that garden? How had they given chase for so long? Why had they killed the assassins?
She turned to the absentminded Water Lord. Did he know something? Had his Nephew told him anything? What could have caused him to be so lost in his thoughts?!
He slowly came back to his senses...
"Flame Lord? You can keep your foxes. I'll be on my way, have a nice night." His gentle reply contrasted with the fieriness of his current thoughts, remembering "those eyes."
He'd find the mastermind behind it all and make them PAY!
