Chapter 38

Yerhan was already out by the time she woke up.

Rosena, who briefly recalled what happened last night, grabbed her head lightly.

She couldn’t understand…. how she ended up sleeping with him after drinking.

Rosena lifted herself up completely after a sigh.

Then she stood in front of the mirror and tapped her eyes. Maybe because she cried yesterday, her eyes were a little swollen.

When she recalled crying in Yerhan’s arms, her face quickly warmed up.

Rosena tidied her hair and changed her clothes. Meanwhile, what happened at the county came back to her mind.

But there were no more feelings of shock like yesterday. It was as if it had happened a long time ago. It might all be thanks to Yerhan.

Rosena took the envelope out of the clothes she wore yesterday. She was in shock because of her father’s diary, thus she couldn’t even open it and take it out.

She sat in front of the desk and agonized for a moment. While she unfolded the envelope, she couldn’t even guess what kind of shocking content it contained.

Rosena, who took a deep breath, opened the envelope. The wax seal was torn off and an old letter came out.

[Dear Philian,]

It was like a letter someone sent to her father. Rosena slowly read the letter.

The content of the letter was very ordinary. It started with a greeting and was filled with stories about how the writer’s doing.

Rosena, who was reading the letter in a nervous state, lost her strength. It just seemed like a normal greeting letter.

[I’m so sorry about Floe.]

The name ‘Floe’ hardened Rosena’s body. The sender of this letter was calling Rosena’s mother in such a friendly way.

Rosena was alert and continued to read the letter. But the letter was already running towards the end.

[Next time I’ll go to see you and Rosena.]

And that concluded the letter.

Rosena, who had been holding the letter for a long time, checked the name on the bottom.

It was written as a nickname without a family name. There was no way to identify the person itself.

“Ah!”

Rosena, who was agonizing, checked again the wax seal she had ripped off earlier. There was a familiar family emblem.

As Rosena mulled it over and tapped into her memory, she soon realized that it was the pattern of a marquis family.

It occurred to her that this marquis, her father’s friend, visited the mansion a few times in the past.

Perhaps the marquis knows something? The reason why she shouldn’t meet the imperial family and about the secrets related to her mother’s family.….

It was difficult to meet the marquis right now. It would have been better to get a chance to meet him naturally.

Rosena folded the letter finely and put it in a box as the bedroom door opened quietly. Through the open door, Illian cautiously stuck his head out.

“Mom?”

“Illian.”

Rosena immediately approached Illian. Holding the handle tightly, Illian smiled broadly as Rosena approached.

“Are, are you busy?”

Asked Illian, stuttering.

Rosena shook her head and picked Illian up.

“No, I’m not busy at all. Did you miss your mom?”

Illian nodded eagerly.

Rosena felt sorry as she looked into Illian’s eyes that yearned for her affection. She hadn’t been able to pay attention to Illian lately because she had been busy with many things. She should take the time to be with him all day today.

“Rosena.”

Both Rosena and Illian raised their heads at the same time.

Yerhan, who had just come into the room, glanced at the Illian hugged by Rosena.

His narrowed eyes looked somewhat unhappy, but before he knew it, his expression softened.

“That’s great. I have someone to introduce to you.”

“?”

What did he mean someone to introduce?

Rosena came out into the hallway with a curious face and an Illian in her arms.

In front of the door stood a man with round glasses.

Illian and Rosena wondered about the man’s identity and shook their heads at the same time.

Then Yerhan smiled at Illian.

“He’s Illian’s private tutor.”

“Private tutor?”

Asked Rosena, stunned, looking at Yerhan.

She was told once before that he would hire a private tutor, but it was too sudden.

“Illian is going to need education, too. I already have several private tutors in mind.”

“That’s true…”

Rosena nodded in agreement. Rosena was also educated under a number of teachers when the County was wealthy.

There were even language, manners, history, horseback riding, and social studies teachers.

“Isn’t language education urgent, especially since Illian is a poor speaker?”

That was also right.

He was a poor speaker when they were in Astania, but now he even had to speak the imperial language.

Illian was able to speak the languages of the two countries thanks to Rosena, but for that reason, he was less talkative than his peers.

“He’s still young, so if he gets educated from now on, he’ll be able to do as well as his peers.”

“Is that so?”

Rosena began to waver at Yerhan’s persuasion.

Rosena, who taught the marquis’ daughter, always felt guilty for not educating young Illian.

If Yerhan hired a teacher, he would be one of the leading educators in the empire.

Rosena looked at Illian. Illian was looking up at Rosena with a pitiful face.

The rounded eyes curled, and a small hand held Rosena’s skirt.

His appearance where he couldn’t say he didn’t like it and couldn’t hold back his tears looked pitiful, so Rosena couldn’t say anything.

“Just give me a little…”

“Your Highness, Princess.”

The tutor, who stood still, stepped forward with his glasses raised.

“I’m Grior Bertan.”

Rosena nodded with a puzzled look, the man continued.

“I often think parents that comply with their children if they say they don’t like it, are considerate of their children, but they’re actually leaving them unattended.”

Rosena opened her lips in shock.

“And I’ve heard that the Prince is now six years old, and actually even now is a little too late.”

Grior persuaded Rosena with a clean statement like a merchant. Then Rosena’s wavering heart was greatly shaken. It was because he pointed out the problem that she had been agonizing deeply about.

“….”

Illian’s gaze turned to Yerhan’s side. Yerhan was crossing his arms as if he was waiting and watching.

It was clear that he was using the private tutor to try to persuade Rosena and to get rid of Illian.

Illian gritted his teeth. Looking at Rosena’s guilty face, he didn’t think he should say no.

Illian kicked his tongue, so gently that no one could hear him. Then he let go of Rosena’s skirt and muttered quietly.

“I’ll, I’ll do it.”

Everyone looked down at Illian at the same time. Illian mumbled and lowered his eyes.

“I want to wead, faiwytale book alone…”

“Illian.”

Rosena bent her knees and wrapped her hands around his cheeks.

When Rosena smoothed his cheeks, Illian closed his eyes pleasantly.

“Do you want to study with the teacher?”

“Yeah.”

After hearing Illian’s answer, Rosena patted his head saying he is a nice kid.

Slowly right away, Rosenna alternated between Yerhan and Grior.

“Please look after him.”

“That’s a good choice.”

Grior lifted his glasses like a habit.

“Then I’ll proceed with the class from now on.”

There were mixed feelings of joy and sorrow. Illian’s face, which had vowed to spend time with Rosena, was distorted, and Yerhan looked pleased.

‘Where will he study?’

“I’ve got it ready.”

Yerhan pointed to the room at the end of the hall as if to reduce Rosena’s worries. It was a room far from their bedroom.

In his thorough preparation, Illian clenched his fist.

“Then, we’ll be going”

Grior, who bowed his head lightly, disappeared with Illian. Rosena looked at the backs of those two men.

She didn’t send him far away, he was just studying in another room, but why was she so uncomfortable?

In time, when there were only two left in the hallway, Yerhan asked.

“Would you like a cup of tea?”

“Yes.”

Yerhan seemed a little surprised by the light response. Rosena often turned him down when he tried to spend time together.

The two headed to the living room. Unlike other royal living rooms, this living room was neat and simple. It was a space with common tastes of Rosena and Yerhan.

Visitors rarely came to the Third Prince Palace, so the living room functioned as a place to drink tea.

Yerhan called a servant and told him to serve tea and refreshments. Soon after, warm tea was placed in front of the two.

Rosena picked up a cookie from a plate before drinking tea. It was a snack made by Federer, a chef directly under the Third Prince Palace.

A light smile spread over Rosena’s face with pleasant sweetness as she put the cookie in her mouth.

Rosena, who was enjoying the cookie, felt sorry that she was eating alone, so she held out the plate.

“Would you like some?”

Yerhan took a bite of the snack after a very brief troublesome look.

“…It’s delicious.”

Of course, it was empty words. It was unpleasant that the sweetness spread all over his mouth, but he couldn’t spit it out.

Yerhan hurried to drink tea and washed away the sweetness left in his mouth.

Rosena and Yerhan drank tea quietly.

When there was little conversation going on, Rosena opened her mouth first.

“Thank you.”

Yerhan raised his head.

“I didn’t know you’d think of Illian so much.”

Yerhan, who put down his teacup, looked at Rosena.

“Anyway, I want to be the best father for my child.”

“…..”

“Because my father couldn’t do it.”

Rosena recalled the emperor for a moment.

After marriage, she saw the emperor for the first time when they went to see the emperor and empress.

Whatever Yerhan did, the emperor who seemed indifferent did not look like Yerhan’s father. For the emperor, Yerhan was no more or less than others.

Yerhan apparently didn’t want to repeat the same thing to Illian, he did not want to follow the emperor’s footsteps.

“I’ll be away in five days.”

Yerhan didn’t elaborate on what he was doing, but he was often away from the palace.

But if he had to say this, he meant to be away for quite a long time.

“How long?”

“It should be about a month and a half.”

“Really?”

Rosena opened her eyes wide when he said he would be away for longer than she thought.

“What’s the matter…”

Yerhan was awkwardly silent for a short time. Yerhan, who was avoiding her eyes, murmured.

“Hunt a little…”

He’s away for a month and a half to hunt?

Rosena looked at Yerhan with a strange look on her face, and he added hastily.

“I heard that a rare beast has appeared.”

“Ah…”

Rosena said, as if she had realized. Previously, Yerhan said he earned money by catching beasts.

It took a lot of money to fix the palace, but he seemed to rely on it because he could not get support from the imperial family.

Rosena, who felt sorry for him, nodded.

“Can I send you a letter often?”

Rosena seemed to laugh in vain when he asked a cautious question that didn’t fit him.

He didn’t have to ask permission to send her a letter….

“I’ll reply immediately.”

It didn’t mean much, but the corners of Yerhan’s mouth went up smoothly.

A faint smile rattled around her heart.

Has she sobered up from drinking yesterday?

Rosena got up after drinking hot tea.

“I’m going to go.”

Yerhan was regrettably capturing each of Rosena’s actions in his mind as she turned away.

“And about the story before…. I think your mother would have liked any flower you gave her.”

Rosena, who left that one word, immediately left the drawing room.

Yerhan stared still at the already closed door.

Rosena seemed to have been paying attention to what he said yesterday.

She pretended to be cold, always pushing him away, but could not hide the tenderness hidden in her nature.

“What would you do if I like you even more?”

Yerhan muttered to himself, looking at the empty glass.
