“I’m saying I’ll divorce you.”

“….”

Rosena looked at Yerhan without breathing. But Yerhan did not add any additional comment.

She couldn’t read any emotion from his rigid expression.

“Are you… serious?”

“Yes.”

He replied without hesitation.

Rosena swallowed everything she was about to say and then pulled the covers off.

As Rosena staggered to her feet, his hands flinched.

“Why all of a sudden?”

Because she stupidly ate the poison her sister gave her? Is he tired of living together now? Or because she was annoying…?

“….”

But Yerhan couldn’t say anything. The tears in Rosena’s eyes stole all his words.

Rosena wiped her eyes with the back of her hand after breathing out a deep gulp.

She didn’t want to cry, but her vision kept blurring.

“I guess you no longer need my strength now.”

Yerhan’s pupils widened.

After seeing his reaction, Rosena’s mouth became stiff.

Rosena, standing upright in her place, faced him.

“Do you think I don’t know anything?”

Rosena bit the inside of her lips, bringing up what she was trying to bury.

For the first time, Yerhan’s expressionless face was broken.

He hurriedly tried to patch up his expression, but it didn’t work out.

“The imperial family needs my strength.”

Rosena reached out and grabbed Yerhan’s wrist.

When their bare skin touched, Yerhan paused.

Looking down at Rosena’s wrist, he slowly raised his head.

His blue eyes filled with Rosena flared like flames.

“Are you still going to say no?”

He didn’t know how much Rosena knew. But the question filled with conviction contained many truths.

Yerhan slowly closed his eyes.

It was after the spark in the open eyes was extinguished.

“You’re right.”

His affirmation clouded Rosena’s face. And he whispered.

“I don’t need your strength now.”

Rosena’s fingers, which were holding Yerhan’s wrist, slowly lost strength.

When the warmth that had been in contact completely dropped, Yerhan stepped back.

“I’ll hand over Illian’s custody to you, too.”

She didn’t want to hear any more. But cruelly, his words continued.

“If you want, I’ll hand over everything I have.”

Standing tall, Rosena parted her trembling lips. She couldn’t figure out what he really meant.

There was no reason to go this far if he was only keeping her just for her powers.

The reason why he suddenly changed his attitude and the reason why he will give everything.

Her heart had been pounding.

She thought she might not like him, but she never imagined she would be notified of a divorce so suddenly.

“…Did anything happen while I was asleep?”

What happened in the last 10 days?

She had no idea what had changed him so much.

“Nothing happened.”

“Don’t lie.”

Rosena’s face was distorted by the blatant lie.

Rosena raised her voice, but Yerhan only looked at Rosena silently.

She couldn’t remember how she breathed. His eyes and voice were like a sharp awl, and he stabbed Rosena all over.

“… I…”

It didn’t match the situation, but there was something she wanted to say when she woke up.

She didn’t think she’d be able to speak unless it was now.

“I… like you.”

She came back so many times just to say this one word.

Yerhan’s eyes, looking at Rosena, shook violently. A lot of emotions crossed his face at the moment.

And the last thing that came to mind was a painful expression.

Soon he let all his emotions go and took a deep breath.

“Don’t like me.”

The harsh answer came back, and Rosena’s pulse was released.

A cold wind blew against her torn chest. Her heart, broken like a grain of sand, was lost and scattered.

The water-filled view became increasingly blurred.

“Is that your answer?”

Yerhan replaced the answer with silence.

With her head down, Rosena only looked at the floor.

Now he said he doesn’t need her. Don’t even like her.

If so, all the reasons why she could no longer be there for him were taken away.

She didn’t even want to beg for him to like her, she just wanted to be by his side…

“….All right.”

Rosena swallowed the desire to hold onto him even now. She didn’t want to be miserable anymore.

If she was rejected once more, then it really seemed impossible to get up.

“I’ll call the doctor, so take a rest.”

Yerhan left the room at the end of his sentence.

Rosena stood blankly, staring at the closed door for a long time.

Only then did Rosena start sobbing as her legs relaxed and slumped to the floor.

If she knew this would happen, she wouldn’t give her heart to him.

She should’ve just kept drawing the line and pushed him away.

He was so good that she couldn’t blame him even though she hated him for saying he put her next to him because of her power.

***

The news that Rosena had awakened brought life to the Third Prince Palace for the first time in a long while.

But Rosena was much calmer than usual.

Rosena was locked in the palace and did not take a single step.

From that day on, Rosena and Yerhan did not live together. Rosena mostly stayed in Illian’s room, and Yerhan never returned to the palace.

After crying for several days, Rosena gradually cleared her mind and started packing up. In order to return to Astania, she had to prepare from now on.

Rosena first wrote a letter to Ibella. Without further details, she sent only the details of leaving the palace.

After returning to Astania, there was a high probability that she would never see her again. Rosena was often alone and dazed. Her heart was empty and ached, and tears flowed.

It wouldn’t have been this hard if she had the mind to get things sorted out in one day.

After getting ready to leave, Rosena called Illian. She kept putting it off until now, but she had to ask Illian’s for his opinion first.

“Illian.”

Illian felt the unusual atmosphere and looked at Rosena with an anxious face.

Rosena’s behavior over the past few days had been strange. She acted like someone who was about to leave.

Rosena couldn’t continue talking even after Illian was sitting in front of her.

After a while, Rosena barely spoke.

“Mom… is leaving.”

She had been thinking so much about what to say. Even after speaking, Rosena stopped breathing because her heart ached.

Rosena, who looked at Illian’s widened eyes, opened her mouth again.

“Would you like to go with Mom?”

“Where?”

“…To Astania.”

“What about Dad?”

Without hesitation, Illian called Yerhan Dad. Rosena looked like she was about to cry at that word.

However, because she was in front of Illian, she pushed her emotions as much as possible.

“Dad… will stay here.”

“Why are we leaving Dad here?”

Illian asked as if he didn’t understand. Rosena pulled her strength away from the hand that was holding Illian’s shoulder.

Rosena closed her eyes and answered.

“Mom and Dad are going to break up.”

“Why?”

Illian shouted. Rosena, who was about to give a blunt answer, was trembling so much that she couldn’t say anything. Then tears fell.

Only after tears dripped to the floor did Rosena realize that she was crying.

“…Mom.”

Then Illian distorted his face in surprise.

“Do not cry…”

Illian saw Rosena cry for the first time.

Illian began to cry sadly, perhaps because he was surprised.

Rosena’s outstretched arms hovered in the air. She didn’t know if she was worthy of hugging Illian’s back.

Rosena’s eyes reddened and she bit her lip. In fact, even at this moment, her feelings for him did not diminish at all.

Thinking of him still made her heart ache. She didn’t need anything and she just wanted to ask him to stay by her side.

Illian, who had been crying for a long time, fell asleep, and Rosena slowly got up from her seat.

“…Your Highness.”

Outside, Ella called for Rosena.

“Lady Lionel has come.”

At those words, Rosena slowly moved her legs.

A few days ago, she sent someone to deliver her a letter, but it seemed that she came directly to her instead of replying.

Rosena said as she looked at Ella standing outside.

“Please take care of Illian.”

Rosena went straight to the living room.

Entering the drawing room, Ibella, who was waiting for Rosena, stood up.

“Your Highness, are you all right?”

Ibella was very worried. Rosena nodded silently and sat across from her.

“I was really surprised when I heard that you were poisoned.”

“I’m sorry for worrying you.”

Ibella shook her head. After thoroughly examining Rosena’s complexion, Ibella realized that Rosena’s face was still not good. Especially the reddish corners of her eyes that seemed to tell of what had just happened.

Ibella hesitated, then cautiously spoke out.

“By the way… about Your Highness leaving the palace.”

The letter delivered to her stated that she had decided to leave the palace.

Rosena pondered over how to explain.

The divorce was still something that only Yerhan and Illian knew. To get a formal divorce, they had to go through the process, and by then she might already be in Astania.

When Rosena didn’t say anything, Ibella took a deep breath.

“Is it because of the trial this afternoon?”

“…A trial?”

Rosena raised her head and looked at her.

Ibella blinked her eyes in surprise at the tone that she had no idea what she was saying.

Rosena wondered if it was a trial for Rania’s execution, but it didn’t seem to be.

“What trial?”

“I thought you knew…”

Ibella was speechless. Rosena calmed her anxious heart and waited for her to speak.

“Today, there will be a trial for the Third Prince.”

“…What do you mean trial?”

Rosena’s expression hardened. It was a word she had never heard before.

“The incident of monster riots in the Imperial Palace was the work of the third prince…”

“What do you mean?!”

On the contrary, Yerhan protected people from the monster. Had it not been for him, the damage would have been out of control.

But they’re putting him on trial?

“Actually, I thought it was because of today’s trial that Your Highness said you were leaving the palace…”

“Ibella.”

Rosena jumped up from her seat and put on a shawl.

“I need to go to court.”

“Yes?”

Ibella blinked.

“I want to see with my own eyes how this happened.”

“……”

Ibella was silent for a moment. There must have been a reason no one had told Rosena, but she did not know if she could take her to the court.

But it was ridiculous that only Rosena didn’t know.

“There are only a few hours left, so we must hurry.”

The two immediately left the palace.

There was a large building not far from the Imperial Palace. It was open whenever important trials were held, most of which were used to deal with serious crimes such as treason.

And today, an unprecedented number of nobles have gathered here. The nobles in charge of the jury sat on either side, and the audience sat in the back.

There were two trials today.

One was about the assassination of the third princess, and the other was about the monster disturbance in the Imperial Palace.

Rania, who was taken out as a suspect, sat as if she had gone insane. Within a few weeks, she lost a lot of weight and looked like a different person.

As the trial time approached, the emperor and empress took their seats. And when Yerhan, dressed in robes, appeared belatedly, there was a lot of noise. He took the plaintiff’s seat for the first trial.

This was the only time in imperial history where one was a victim and a suspect in both trials today.

Finally, Duke Dustin, who was the judge this time, entered.

The duke was neutral, neither pro-imperial nor anti-imperial, and no one was dissatisfied with the fact that he served as a judge whenever such a big event occurred.

As he sat down, the noisy surroundings became silent.

“Then I will start the trial on the murder of the Third Princess first.”

Duke Dustin looked at Asilia and Yerhan, who were sitting there.

The victim, Rosena, was not feeling well, so she had told her husband, Yerhan, to come out as her substitute.

“Defendant, Rania Estarot.”

When her name was called, Rania blankly raised her head. Her face, bloodless, looked like a corpse.

“Do you swear to the gods that you will only tell the truth?”

“…I, I swear.”

A voice she didn’t want to hear came out, as if it had rusted.

Asilia, who was sitting in the jury, glanced at Rania. Her face had been shattered greatly in the time they didn’t meet.

Asilia twisted her lips secretly. When she heard the news that Rosena had woken up a few days ago, she felt uncomfortable.

“Defendant Rania Estarot. You tried to assassinate the Third Princess, Rosena Herbet. Is it true?”

Rania lowered her head. A faint voice came out of Rania’s mouth, who closed her mouth for a moment.

“It is true…”

Those who were sitting there whispered. No matter how much she hates her, how could she think of hurting her family?

Rania responded obediently to the judge’s question. All the circumstances and evidence had already been revealed, and she made no more lies.

“Are you doing it alone without any accomplices?”

Rania’s shoulders flinched at the judge’s question.

“…No.”

Her answer shook the world again.

“Then who is the accomplice?”

Rania slowly raised her head, and her gaze stopped while looking towards Asilia. All who sat around them looked at Asilia.

“It is the Second Princess.”

At Rania’s remarks, the judge flipped. Everyone looked at Asilia and said they couldn’t believe it.

As the surroundings became noisy, the judge knocked with the wooden hammer to tell them to be quiet. The commotion ceased, and the judge looked at Asilia and asked.

“Your Highness, is this true?”

“No, it’s not.”

Asilia was already preparing for this situation. She had already expected that Rania would not die alone and would hold onto her ankles. However, there was no evidence, and it was easy to frame Rania alone.

“I don’t know what kind of hate she has for me, but I don’t know about it. I’m just… I feel bad because she’s always alone, so I’m just staying with her these days.”

Asilia answered sentence by sentence, the judge nodded. He immediately looked at Rania and asked.

“Do you have any proof?”

Rania bowed her head. There was no such thing as evidence. She had already burned the pockets she got from Asilia. And she did not tell anyone about the conversation they had at that time. Only Rania and Asilia knew the truth.

When Rania couldn’t say anything, the judge raised his glasses.

“If not, I will not admit that statement…”

“I have it.”

At someone’s remark, the surroundings became quiet.

The judge slowly turned his head toward the source of the voice. At the end of his gaze, Yerhan sat. Everyone looked at Yerhan with their voices silenced.
