The thrust of the blade entered the roaring boar, sticking into its heavy frame as it thrashed. Her body struck a tree's trunk and she felt air escape her lips as her health points fell. Lucy, however, pushed her blade further in, the scar of blue data lines widening. Even though she hadn't hit a vital body part as once before, the creature exploded into particles of blue nonetheless.

Lucy took a deep breath and sat to recover her hp, which had fallen into its orange zone, aka, below 50% since she had rushed and fought boars without fully recovering in each battle. Thankfully, that was the last fight she needed to face, however. It was 3:15 pm, and she was now deep within level 6 and had gotten enough Boar Meat to complete the quest.
She summoned her Traveler's Book as she waited, placing the acquired souls into her physical stats. Though it was possible to also increase your health points with souls, she decided against it as it was already one of the only two stats that increased naturally with each level-up.
She looked at the Swordsman skill-tree and noted that her next set of skills wouldn't unlock until she reached level 10. Thus, she decided she would start saving Souls from now on. Sure, she might be weaker than enemies of certain levels till then, since she wouldn't be using the full breadth of the total stats she could have, but it would be sweet to immediately be able to activate and use any skills once she reached that level instead of grinding.
Unfortunately, there was no way to tell how many skills would unlock and how much Souls she'd need to buy them till then.
"Oh well." Lucy shrugged and stood up.
Then, a certain glint in the sun's light caught her eyes between trees.
Before she could make sense of what it was, a snarl resounded and a creature ran from beyond a trunk. It took her a moment to take in the fact that it was a level 6 goblin wielding a sword, name clearly crimson as an enemy—though its health point was in the red and an arm was already gone.
Lucy moved to dodge its strike. It grazed her leg and took a bit of her health.
"Why you! I'm still regenerating!"
She kicked with her feet and its face was struck.
Its health dived down, and she slashed her blade to finish the job. It blocked that strike, but she scoffed and stabbed forward once more, piercing a digital hole through its small head.

After placing the soul into her speed, Lucy checked the equipment she had just earned. It was a shoddy bracelet made of small rocks and a string.

—a goblin's bracelet it received from its deceased mother. Filled with love and warmth.
*3% chance to regenerate 3% of damage dealt.
+1 to hp
+1 to magic defense.
". . ."
It certainly was a decent accessory but. . .the description of the item itself left much unsaid. . .
"Whatever," Lucy muttered and equipped it.
The modifier would be boosted by [Dafy's Golden Feather] to a 13% activation chance and one of its bonus stats translated to 10 extra health-points for herself. It was an item she couldn't pass up at this stage of the game.
With it attached to her left wrist, she walked forward and passed through the area the goblin had came from with curiosity on her mind.
The grassy land of the forest mellowed and dirt came below her feet. In seconds, the terrain changed just slightly. It was still a place of trees, but it widened significantly until many people could move comfortably about it.
". . .what's this?" She tilted her head.
There was a rather large tree trunk stuck within the ground. Missing its tree, there was a big, gaping, hole upon its surface that was fit enough to let several adults through at once.
"Oh, you're first. I suppose that's not unexpected." A voice called out to her.
Lucy turned around to see a girl standing there.
She was about her height and dressed much the same as herself—a white shirt and black shorts with a sword at her left hip. Her hair—a golden feather clipped to it—was black, etched in the image of a ponytail and twin bangs, while her eyes were like a sunset, a deep orange that could be mistaken for crimson in the right lighting.
She focused a bit above the individual's head. The white name 'Worm' floated there, and a dashed '8' was beside it. The girl currently had a health circle at just below 90%. Clearly, she had just finished a battle.
Worm smiled at her.
"It's nice to meet you, Eve, I've heard quite a lot about you in this region," She said, voice calm and rather a bit sharp.
Lucy raised a brow. "And I've seen a bit of the articles you wrote, Worm. In addition to your antics."
"We both have our antics." Worm chuckled mildly and walked towards her. Though Lucy noticed it seemed as if the breath of the girl's full facial muscles weren't in use. 'Cool-beauty,' she thought.
The two stood before the large trunk, three times taller than them both, wide enough for many to hug at once, and stared at it.
"Do you know what it is?" Lucy asked. She had her opinion, but she figured it was better to ask someone who seemed to be writing articles on the game itself. Wisdom was knowing who and when to ask, after all.
"Well. . .it's what I was looking for," Worm replied and held her chin, "A goblin I killed before dropped a badly made map. It filled in a section of my own and highlighted this odd structure. If I'm not mistaken, this tree-trunk leads down into a goblin outpost. Essentially, I believe it could be the first dungeon in Eclipse."
Lucy glanced at her map. Indeed, the trunk was highlighted, its image clear to see as a sort of pillar. It really likely was a dungeon, and the two had found it at the same time.
