- Episode 15

It was the common people who did not have the physical strength to protect themselves and had no choice but to be passive in front of power. However, Estio's ability was enough to open his eyes from the point of view of a nobleman.

If it were possible to read other people's thoughts as if reflected in a mirror and manipulate their minds, the political world would be completely turned upside down. From the point of view of the nobility, it was like a high tidal wave approaching with a black shadow.

Viscount Fabien still didn't fully appreciate Estio's abilities, but at least he noticed that he was a shining jewel buried in the mud.

This time, the Viscount pointed out him, and the request was a cornerstone for wiping off the dirty mud on the jewels and shaving the rough stones into his hands.

[  <Ignis Guild - Special Support Request Form>

-Customer: Remil de Fabien (Author of Fabien)

-Named guild member: Estio

-Request location: 'Upper Jasper'

-Commission date: Year of the Red Poseidon, January 15th ~

-Content of the request: Jasper, which holds the city's largest jewelry market, has closed its doors for some reason and is having a hard time dealing with jewelry.

1) Visit 'Thompson', the top shareholder, and find out the cause. (*)

2) If possible, fix the problem to get the Jasper top running again. (***) ]

One guild coin was given even if the contents of the quest were solved only once. And if you solve it up to 2 times, you hang 3 Guild Coins as a reward. If you solve both, you will get a total of 4 guild coins.

Each coin had an amount suggested by the client, and the more coins you collected, the more you could be promoted to a higher rank in the guild, so this quest was a good opportunity in many ways.

'...It's a bit disappointing, but it's not a big deal.......'

Estio folded the request form, put it in his arms, and turned around without saying a word. He remembered the eyes of the Viscount, who admired him as he looked at himself as if he was evaluating a valuable item. Even though Estio was still dark about the world, he could tell by feeling that he never entrusted the quest to him with good intentions.

However, whatever the purpose of the Viscount, Estio had to work as long as he received a request from him.

"Ah, Estio."

"?"

Just as I was about to leave the office, I heard Hawk call. Looking back at him with his puzzled face, Hawk smirked and waved his hand.

"Good luck."

"......"

It was Estio who had never been greeted by anyone before. As he stared blankly at Hawk, Neju let out a short cry instead.

Estio immediately bowed his head and answered in an awkward tone.

"...I will go."

"Oh, welcome back. Estio-kun! Melon bread when you come!"

Rosalie from the budget management team also waved her hand. In the wind, Estio got a strange feeling and stood blankly even after he got out of the guild building.

Neju awakened his mind.

"Where are you going?"

When Estio was commissioned, he opened the map of the city distributed along with it. The name of the city was written in large letters 'Galasia' at the top.

Galatia was a fairly large city for a province. Even though it was a map that marked only the inside of the city, it felt crowded because there were many places marked here and there.

Each building and road is color-coded for easy identification. First, the guild base was green, and the small shops and vendors were light blue. The residential areas of commoners were not painted, and the aristocratic mansions were marked with yellow borders.

Lastly, the place of request was a striking red color. Estio confirmed the location of Jasper's upper headquarters and briefly explained it to Neju.

"You just have to go along the main road. Here at the southernmost tip of the guild base."

How far is it?"

"I think it will take about an hour to walk."

Hearing those words, Neju, who rolled her red eyes, suddenly made a suggestion.

"Can Neju take you?"

"......Yes?"

It was an odd proposal that I hadn't thought of. When Estio turned around with a bewildered face, Neju expressed her opinion while pounding her chest.

"Because Neju can run much faster than Estio! It's hard for Estio to walk long."

"No, that's fine."

Seeing Estio waving her hands, Neju dropped her shoulders gloomy. Estio, who was trying to hasten her steps, sent Neju's thoughts and feelings into Estio's head.

"I thought I could only help Estio like this. Also, I can't."

"......"

The young white-haired monkey wanted to be of any help to him. However, since he was just a peaceful quest with nothing to fight for, there was nothing Neju had to do other than follow him.

It was just about being quiet and not making a fuss while following along. Neju felt very sorry for that fact. At the sound of her breathless sigh, Estio's dark blue eyes gave a young look of trouble.

In the end, he decided to comply with Neju's will. Estio, carried like a baby monkey on the back of a fluffy white fur monkey, was able to achieve the feat of arriving at the destination within 15 minutes of departure.

Neju, who reached her destination quickly and safely, dropped Estio down and smiled proudly exposing her fangs.

"Look! Did you say Neju was fast?"

"......Yes, thank you. It was a great run."

It was a great movement speed. It wasn't very pretty, though.

Jasper upper owned a three-story building. As it is the upper level that specializes in jewelry trading, the first floor has a wide glass window so that you can see the inside from the outside.

Estio approached the window and looked inside. The lights were turned off, but the gem stones and various jewelery ornaments on the shelves were sparkling and boasting their appearance. Starting with red, there were also green, blue, and even black gems.

Born and raised in a rural village, he didn't have a chance to see even jewels, so he saw Estio for the first time in his life, thinking that they were just fine-colored stones and turned his attention away. The colors were gorgeous and shiny, but I couldn't understand why people are so enthusiastic about spending so much money on one of those stones.

From Estio's point of view, jewelry was just a luxury. Averting his eyes from the jewel, he knocked on the tightly locked glass door.

"......"

The building with the lights turned off and the doors locked was as quiet as death. The request said to meet Sang-ju Sang-ju 'Thompson', but the door was locked, so there was no way to meet him.

"Miawoong, there must be no one there."

Estio looked at Neju with his arms crossed. Her eyes met, and the white-haired monkey tilted her head.

"Now what?"

"I heard that Sang-ju lives in the upper building. Sang-san has closed business, but he probably wouldn't have left since this building is his home."

"Then, is that person still inside?"

"I don't know until that point. He may have been out."

The inside of the building, seen through the window, was still quiet. Estio leaned forward in front of the door. Neju hesitated and sat down next to him.

"Are you going to keep waiting? Estio, I think it's going to be cold."

Not that it wasn't, but the cold wind made it hard to live. Estio heard the worrying words and raised his bare hands, stroking Neju, who was sitting next to her. Neju's white fur, flowing with her original cold blood, did little to keep her warm, but she was soft and pleasant to the touch.

"Fine."

There was no response to the knock, and there was no other way than to wait ignorantly as there was no way to check whether or not there was anyone inside.

Estio stayed there from then until the sun went down.

Bump.

It was dark at night when someone opened the door from inside. He was not dressed for going out, but a young man in his early thirties wearing a sloppy house coat and a bread hat.

He looked at Estio with an angry expression and opened his mouth.

"Hey, are you excited to die?"

He knew from the beginning that Estio had come, but he did not open the door.

'The lights are off in the store and there is no response, so I'll go back on my own.'

All the guys who have come so far have sent them back. It was a cold season, so I couldn't stand in front of the house for very long even though I came here for a jewelry transaction problem.

It was the first time for a human like Estio to wait patiently from morning to night.

"...is 'Thompson', the owner of the Jasper upper?"

"If that's true, you're right. You, the nobles, came here because you don't sell stuff, so you know that."

Thompson, who was about to turn around and exhale nervously, stopped and looked down at Estio again.

"...Ibosho, I'm just asking, aren't you trying to commit suicide?"

"......"

His face was tired of blue and his bare fingertips caught his attention. As Estio, he was accustomed to the cold and wanted to do that, but at this point, he seemed like someone who really came to die.

Thompson frowned and asked again.

"Did there ever be a rumor that my house is a suicide spot? About two blocks from here, you'll find a bridge. The river is a little warm there. Don't be a nuisance, go there."

"It's not like that."

"No? It's me, or why are you arguing in front of someone else's house? It's bad, so get out of there."

With a displeased expression, Thompson grabbed Estio's arm roughly and lifted him up. Then, when Neju, who she thought was a bundle of cotton, suddenly got up and took a deep breath.

In that brief moment, unexpectedly, Thompson's memories flowed into Estio.

'Will you marry me?'

'Honey, why are you doing this? Where are you sick?'

'...I can't have another child. Don't worry too much.'

'Why are you doing this? Leah is my child. This is the child you gave birth to!'

Thompson had a beautiful wife named Thiel. He fell in love with Thiel at first sight and proposed to him, and received her dreamlike approval. But since she married him, she had to spend her painful days with Till.

They got married in the fall and gave birth to their first child the following year, but the child died suddenly of a sudden infant death before a stone passed.

Since then, Thiel has been pregnant twice more, all miscarriages. The fourth pregnant child was born safely, but she was sure that she would die soon. Suffering from extreme stress and depression, she has never looked for her child until after she passed away.

'Damn it! What do you mean by looking at me? Calm down, please.'

'.......'

'Hey, you're going to let Leah die too!'

Eventually, even the couple began to crack. Thompson was a man who cared for and loved her wife more than anyone else, but he couldn't understand Til, who, like her crazy woman, kept her children away and locked herself in her corner crying.

Thompson went out of business along the way. He was a merchant who had built up an incredibly high honor and wealth for a commoner based on his excellent resourcefulness and financial power, but he could not let his young daughter Leah, who had barely seen the light of the world after a lot of hard work, be left unattended.

Thompson closed the upper door and started caring for the baby himself.
