Chapter 17

“I’ll also go tomorrow.”

The next day, the noon changed the morning time.

Psychke told her fiancé to come to the mansion hastily as they promised in the association.

She had a headache since she didn’t get a wink of sleep last night because of the events that occurred, thus she was in no mood to be polite.

She had a question for him about the association. Verndia, who was lost in his thoughts, frowned.

“Where is the place you’re talking about?”

Don’t tell me, no, it can’t be.

Even though she was thinking that way, she couldn’t put off her uneasy premonition.

He had no idea what was in her little head that she looked anxious.

And her mere premonition became the reality she didn’t want.

“That illegal auction house that Lia mentioned.”

“…. Do you know what to do about it?”

“I know. I am going to steal it.”

Verndia breathed a deep sigh and the confirmation she said.

She could see the ridiculous expression he had, but she also couldn’t back down. As if she wanted to this either.

“Are you bored?”

“I’m not trying to get permission. You know what I mean.”

The same had happened in the past.

She couldn’t remember the exact date when that happened, but there was an article related to that auction house that there was an illegal theft.

The story was that the criminal could not be caught, but there was no lost item.

Around the same time that happened, Verndia sent her a letter which contains saying that he was feeling unwell and wouldn’t be able to see her for a short while.

To sum this up–

Verndia was ordered to rob the Keitan’s necklace in the auction house.

However, Verndia miserably failed and after an unknown process, the necklace was discovered to the SIlkisia mansion where she was falsely accused and died right after.

But, the Duke of Silkisia made a different move than in the past. He said that he’d me keep as the a princess now.

I couldn’t be at ease. Verndia has to make to sure that he’d be successful in stealing the necklace.

“What kind of thoughts are the hell you’re thinking?”

Verndia couldn’t stand the atmosphere between them and revealed his innermost angrily.

However, she couldn’t possibly say that, ‘I’d come to you even if you fail.’, so she made a reckless move.

“Two would be better than one.”

“If one didn’t do a good job, the other one will suffer the most.”

Self, need to stay calm. Do you understand?

Her fiancé glared at her ruthlessly but she didn’t care.

“Anyway, I’ve told you the reason.”

“If you were going to do whatever you want, why bother saying that?”

“Ring, to cover up the ring.”

His casual glance ended up to her left hand which had the engagement ring, as it glowed with the subtly gold color, resonating from within.

Only then did his ugly expression was wiped away, thinking that the ring would constantly shine every time he’d look at it.

“Isn’t it better if the princess didn’t come?”

“I’m not going because I want to.”

Ha…

The duke, who had breathed heavily as if in disbelief didn’t put off his hand from his face.

Then, he thought of something and looked at her with his puzzled expression.

“No way, princess – are you doing this on purpose to fail?”

“Pardon?”

Psychke wrinkled her brows.

She said that she would help him. How did he manage to think that way somehow?

“I don’t have any intention of breaking up the marriage between us, but you can’t keep the contract, so this is how it comes out.”

She guessed that she was too speechless to say something in return.

There was a silence between them. Psychke looked at Verndia for a moment and sighed, as if she gave up explaining, looking at somewhere else.

“Duke, can I be honest with you?”

“No matter what you say, my thoughts won’t change–”

“I want to break up my engagement right away.”

With her mad expression, she interrupted him cruelly. It didn’t matter to her if it was rude for him or not.

“Isn’t it only because of my father that you keep our engagement? You’re afraid that if we break upi, you’ll be out of favor with the knights.”

“….”

Verndia, who was hurt, was dumbfounded.

“Yes, I understand what you mean, Duke. I know it’s because of my attitude towards you in the past. But people change, thus I have no feelings for you anymore. I guarantee that I will never ever have again.”

(TN: *throws a slipper, and proceeds to say, “EmOtiOnAl DAmaGe!” lel)

She thought she would hear something from him since she uttered the words he didn’t want to hear in his face.

Verndia was stupefied and had a stunned look on his face.

(TN: Man was too stunned to speak lmao)

This is the first time this has happened, and what he feared just happened.

With his overbearing aura, height and force, he received everyone’s attention just by simply breathing.

Even political opponents dared not provoke him in front of him, who is called the Mad Dog.

But she said those words to him, as if she didn’t chase him everywhere when he was uninterested of her.

His shock was too great to even explain.

No matter how long she waited for him to open his mouth, he didn’t make any sound.

Now that he has to leave her seat and had gotten up, Psychke made a firm decision.

“You don’t have to worry about anything because no matter what happens, I’ll definitely break our engagement. Then, I shall get going first.”

Verndia only looked up to her with a bewildered look on his face, but did not stop her.

She walked out of the living room with a last bow.

“Let’s talk for a moment.”

And then she was unfortunately caught by Lillian, who was menacingly looking at her even from afar the living room.

Looking at her face, Lillian seemed to be waiting for a long time until she finished talking with the Duke.

“How can you do that?”

The bottomless questions flew in.

(TN: don’t mind me, just… this b*tch is someone I would be willing to rip off her mouth)

Her face was too pale after her question. Her eyes and nose were so red as if she was weeping, and her breath was unsteady with excitement and anger hidden within.

Contrary to Lillian’s fiery temperament, Psychke replied ice-coldly.

“About what?”

“You said you’d give up everything.”

Lillian was trembling with contempt and grabbed her empty chest, and proceeded to cry.

“You said that you’d give up the princess title, and the duke’s fiancée!”

Yeah, it was.

The day when Lillian came with Lenox and Melisa. Pyschke indeed told her that she’d give up everything that is fake, and Lillian is the real one.

She kept my word faithfully.

But the person opposite her doesn’t think that way.

“You’re so mean! Very mean!”

Lillian thought that the fake princess in front of her was merely deceiving her.

Lillian was crying dispiritedly. Her tears around her eyes disturbed her beautiful cheeks.

“That isn’t yours to begin with! They are all supposedly mine! You have to give them back when the owner wants them!”

“…..”

“But why does father and Duke Verndia keeps being around you? You’re just a fake one! On contrary, I am the real one!”

In the past, Lillian failed to win Verndia’s heart.

However, Lillian succeeded in firmly establishing herself as a princess of Silkisia, so she did not act this way.

It was all about pretending to be innocent, pretending to be nice, and throwing sympathy like she was always the victim and Psychke was the enemy.

But now–

“It’s no doubt! What did you say? You begged me not to throw you away, and that you’ll do anything? You also said that you’d give everything back to me!”

“No, I haven’t.”

“Lies! It’s all because of you. Because of you, it’s all because of you!”

Lillian swallowed the last words, and sobbed loudly while burying her face in both of her palms.

Psychke frowned and touched her forehead and closed her eyes.

The constant headache she’s having, lack of sleep last night, and Lillian’s foolish whine were combined that it created an immaculate pain. It wasn’t because Psychke didn’t know the wrong from Lillian. Rather, it was her sympathy that troubles her.

She knew better than anyone how miserable it felt to be taken away from others what she thought was her.

So, she had no reason or obligation to appease Lillian. How can the victim comfort the perpetrator?

“Don’t force yourself, Lillian.”

When she counted to ten inside her mind, her headache subsided a bit.

The conversation itself was tiring, but it was very unpleasant to be misunderstood as it is.

Psychke decided to get the facts straight, with great kindness and patience.

“I never asked anyone to let me stay in the Duke’s house after you returned.”

“Do you think I’d believe that?”

“Whether you believe it or not, it is up to you.”

She looked numbly at Lillian’s bluish eyes.

“If you don’t like me so much, tell my father. Go after the fake me.”

“Do not be ridiculous. After everything has already been baked and boiled–”

(TN: I guess Lillian means that, ‘After everything has been decided or made’, sort like that.)

“My father can’t take my fake words more seriously than yours.”

Psychke let out a deflating laugh.

“Or are you not confident?”

” … What?”

“Yes.”

She took a step forward and closed the distance with Lillian. Then, she lowered her voice so that Verndia, who was in the drawing room, could not hear her.

“All right. Let’s stay that I begged Duke Verndia to keep our engagement. Then the duke… the only means that he valued me more than he does to you.”

“…..”

“The same goes for father.”

Psychke, who criticized her, stepped back and tilted her head slightly. Lillian stood blankly, not even thinking of wiping the tears flowing down to her chin.

She may not believe it, but Psychke didn’t do anything big.

“I know you want to blame me but do it moderately. Unless you want to show to the world that you’re worse than me.”

At the end of her sentence, Psychke turned her back away from her.

Until when she turned to the corner of the hallway, Lillian’s persistent eyes followed her, but Psychke didn’t care and left the place with a steady pace.
