Chapter 219 Confrontation

Once Li Yunfei and the rest had left, it was time for Xiang Ning to unleash his full strength. He launched an incredible attack using both Triple Slash and Mountain-Splitting Slash. The Pale Moon sensed that it was in danger and dodged. Utilizing its familiarity with the natural surroundings, it landed somewhere farther away and launched a stone the size of Xiang Ning’s head toward him.

Xiang Ning immediately dropped and rolled to avoid it. But just as he tried standing up, the hair on his back tingled. Combat Instinct had warned him of the impending danger, so he continued rolling. An explosion sounded where he previously was.

When the dust settled he saw that the Pale Moon had tried to stomp him. The destructive prowess of the Pale Moon caused the ground around it to become a crater.

“What frightening strength and speed.” He had come that close to death. If he had taken it head on, he wouldn’t have escaped unscathed.

The battle continued raging.

He immediately sent out a flying knife toward the throat of the beast the moment he stood up. He was certain that from its angle the Pale Moon would never notice it.

But once again, the beast exceeded his expectations.

With Keen Observation, he saw that the fur around its neck vibrated the moment the flying knife was inches away. The Pale Moon had reacted and knocked away the knife.

He could only smile bitterly. He thought that his Combat Instinct was a unique ability that allowed him to sense danger from outside his perception, but to think that the Pale Moon had something similar as well. It seems that a sneak attack won’t work. But he wasn’t disappointed, because that attack wasn’t strong enough to end it in one strike anyway.

Thanks to that, however, he now knew that the Pale Moon had a special ability that allowed it to sense danger. He was more careful in attacking it now, or he would die the moment the Pale Moon dodged and counterattacked if he wasn’t prepared.

The longer the fight dragged on, the more excited Xiang Ning became. Looking at the proud beast, his pride and competitiveness were also awakened.

“Come, let’s continue!” Xiang Ning held Devourer in his hand and swung it down. Both man and beast were relentlessly exchanging blows, and soon Xiang Ning’s strength explosively increased.

Tier three, seven-star martial artist

Xiang Ning fought until his vision blurred. Thanks to the healing pills, he could continue his fight against the Pale Moon. The beast was no pushover, either, with its legendary tenacity and stamina. Due to that, Xiang Ning’s strength was steadily increasing.

After fighting for so long, both of them were finally showing signs of fatigue. The Pale Moon was also increasing its strength and showed signs of advancing! It was one of the best opponents that Xiang Ning had found. Its defense, speed, and attack were good enough for him.

Without Keen Observation, he would have been disadvantaged. It was indeed a powerful skill, but the downside was also very big. If he were to come to rely on it, he would die if he met an enemy stronger than him. If he didn’t have the skills to parry and defend, then the enemy could kill him before Keen Observation succeeded. That was just the truth. An enemy of a certain strength could easily kill him in a second.

Xiang Ning was also someone who loved learning new things. Thanks to his knowledge of beasts, as long as he knew what kind of beast they were, he more or less understood their ecology, behavior, and some of their attack patterns. As long as the enemy didn’t have a unique skill, he should be fine.

Coincidentally, the Pale Moon is one of the most well-rounded wolf-type beasts, and capable of using the attacks of other wolves. A Pale Moon was more or less a Grandmaster of Arms, in human terms.

Unless he was truly in danger, Xiang Ning would only rely on his strength to fight against the Pale Moon. He wouldn’t keep Keen Observation activated all the time.

The Pale Moon had initially thought that it could kill the human with its speed, but soon realized that the human was too good at dodging. Every time it felt that it could kill him, it realized that he could dodge one more time. The vitality of this human was astounding!

Xiang Ning’s pills were the sole reason he could fight against the Pale Moon for so long. He was also focused on inflicting damage on the Pale Moon’s waist. It had been passed down through the generations that a wolf-type beast's weakness was its waist. But he was unable to land a decisive blow. The Pale Moon was able to easily dodge all of his attacks when the fight started.

But now, thanks to the healing pills, Xiang Ning could exhaust the Pale Moon’s vitality. Half an hour had passed, and the beast’s strength was already at its lowest. He was, however, still on guard. Wolf-type beasts were special. The more tired they were, the stronger they became. It could easily turn the battle around with one last push. As for why wolf-type beasts were all like that…

Naturally, it was to hunt down their prey.

The snow-white fur of the Pale Moon was covered in blood and wounds, but its pride had yet to be shattered. It looked even scarier now, with its remaining eye radiating murderous intent.

The Devourer had absorbed all of the blood on its blade, revealing its shiny metallic color. The weak yellow core, however, had been dyed crimson.

At the moment, Xiang Ning was solely focused on the Pale Moon. He still had stamina, but he was already close to collapsing. After focusing for so long, he felt that he was already pushing the limit of his brain. His will to fight was almost depleted.

The combatants entered a phase where they just stood still. The Pale Moon gradually lowered its body for a charge, the final attack it could muster.

This would be the final attack, and the one who stood above would be victorious. Not once had Xiang Ning focused on anything but his enemy. He knew that, without Keen Observation, he would have been dead so many times. It was now a battle of wills. The one who landed an attack first would have the biggest advantage.

He finally relented and swallowed his saliva. He planned to realign his posture when a slight change was detected. The Pale Moon wouldn’t miss such an opportunity and leaped; its bloody maws were now inches away.

There was no time to activate Keen Observation.

Xiang Ning suddenly felt like Devourer had escaped his grasp as the image of a black dragon appeared. It was soft and malleable without any hard edges. Only its eyes were a crimson red. The dragon bit into the back of the neck of the Pale Moon!
