Chapter 269 Seven Deadly Sins - Pride

“Don’t… don’t come over here,” a rhinoceros-type mutant sputtered with great difficulty, but his voice was too soft. The rest of them didn’t hear him.

“Puny ants!” Xiang Ning’s intimidating aura crushed the three mutants, causing him to look more powerful than he actually was. It was like the members of the Seven Deadly Sins weren’t as scary as they were supposed to be.

After Xiang Ning extended his intimidation, the members had already gone weak in the knees from sheer terror.

Then came the slaughterfest!

Within the small forest, every person on surveillance duty had their jaws dropped. One of the young men, who was also the person that had questioned Xiang Ning’s qualification to be Annot’s bodyguard, widened his eyes. His entire worldview had come crashing down.

The Devourer absorbed the fresh blood and brightened. The three mutants did not retaliate at all, just like the leopard mutant.

“Boss, how many resources would we need to spend to kill those three mutants?”

“At least a mid-level team with severe injuries and deaths expected!”

“But… he only needed two minutes.”

Xiang Ning looked at the mutants, recalling the person in the wilderness. They were once heroes, but had become... this. He didn’t know what to say, so he lightly shook his head and turned to leave.

All twenty knives were retrieved. He picked up the little girl and held his sister’s hand as he brought them to a safe zone.

“Big brother, this is fine. We can go back on our own. You can go protect other people.” Xiang Xiaoyu voluntarily let go of his hand and held the little girl’s hand.

“Huh?” Xiang Ning looked at her, stunned.

She smiled. “Go, big brother.”

“But—”

“We’ll be fine.” She slightly shook her head while he stared at her in a daze. He felt like she had grown up some. He smiled and ruffled her hair. “Mm, you’ve grown taller.”

After saying that, he turned toward the battlefield.

......“What the hell are the other squads doing? More and more people are dying, why aren’t reinforcements here yet?!”

“There’s a tier four cobra mutant here! We can’t hold much longer!”

“What’re we going to do? There are too many mutants, we’re running out of time!”

Every major squadron was in a precarious condition as the death toll continued increasing. Although every team leader was at least tier four, there was a reason why mutants had once been called heroes. They were far stronger than regular martial artists and spiritual cultivators.

“AAAARGH!” A tier four team leader’s vein popped; he was drenched in his own blood. He was a lamp on its last drop of oil, but there were civilians behind him. He must not retreat or run away!

“Weak. Too weak! What right do you all have to eliminate us all with such weak bodies? You’re all so weak!”

“Monster!”

“Monster! Haha, you’re right. We’re monsters. When you needed us, we were heroes. And now you call us monsters!”

Splat

There was a swish, then blood splashed on the team leader’s face. He looked at the glinting silver longsword in shock.

Xiang Ning pulled the Devourer out as the light dimmed in the mutant’s eyes, its corpse falling to its knees and then the ground. The team leader was in shock, eyeing the person in the Heaven’s Key Armor with complex emotions. News of Xiang Ning's existence had spread among the squads. He was a teenager, but an exceptionally strong one. No one believed he was only sixteen.

They all believed that would just be ridiculous.

“Take them out of here, quick.” Xiang Ning left instructions and proceeded into battle.

......

On the other side, Sect Master Fang strangled Pride’s neck with his hand, then slammed her into a cliff at twice the speed of sound. The impact was the equivalent of a ten-thousand-ton TNT explosion. However, his brows were tightly furrowed and he showed no signs of relief.

“Fang Zhenyuan, is this all you can do? It’s a waste of time fighting you.” Pride waltzed out of the rubble, her neck twisted at a horrific angle. A normal human would have died.

Fang Zhenyuan didn’t speak but quietly watched Pride. After a moment, he said, “Stay here. We’ll wait for the masters from the other cities to join the party.”

“Hehe, is there anyone else who can kill me other than the Eight Pillars? Based on my intel, they should be very busy right now.”

“It’s just you! Why would we need the Eight Pillars?” Fang Zhenyuan smirked, his white robes billowing in the wind as he coldly continued, “You’re too prideful!”

He released a burst of energy, sending a tier seven master’s power across the land in the shape of a blade of light that hurled toward Pride.

Pride smiled and adjusted her head to its original position with a violent crack. She smirked, then released a counterattack.

To be honest, Fang Zhenyuan couldn’t do much either. Pride’s powers were too peculiar; in particular, her regenerative abilities seemed supernatural. More specifically, her healing abilities and life force weren’t something that a normal human would have.

“Mysterious Grasp!” Pride reached out and a black surge of energy poured out of her body, turning into a strange, gigantic hand. The hand slammed down on Fang Zhenyuan at an alarming speed and he barely had time to react. However, as a tier seven master, he still had a way to get out.

Fang Zhenyuan coldly huffed and clasped his hands behind his back, running off using the Shadowmist Ghost Step at Peak Mastery.

That’s right, Peak Mastery Shadowmist Ghost Step. If Xiang Ning were to use it, his silhouette would look like an illusory figure at most, but with Fang Zhenyuan’s impressive cultivation, he turned into a straight line.

“Hmm?” Pride smirked as she watched Fang Zhenyuan. “Not bad.”

…...

Back at the colosseum, after Xiang Ning settled the mutant problem, he brought his sister back home after the little girl found her family.

“Big brother, have a seat first.” Xiang Xiaoyu brought him to the couch, then got up to cut some fruit.

By the time she returned, he was already fast asleep. The teenager had activated Eight Gates twice today, even attaining tier five once. He had barely been keeping himself up since then, and if it wasn’t for his sister, Dong Qianyi would have dragged him back.

She quietly crept forward, frowning with heartache when she saw him fast asleep. In the end, she carefully covered him with a blanket.
