FLFO – Chapter 108 – Inbamunt Defence Battle Preparation

“Home! Time to play!”

It’s getting colder. It’s almost November. Ellie and Abbie are struggling with the temperature difference in Japan, but that’s to be expected when they’re not used to living here.

I’ll make sure my body is warm…and play the game.

I log in at the bedroom of the detached palace. After encountering the Eye’chan’s, I also say hello to Elianora, who just arrived. I don’t know how she does it, but she senses it as soon as I come to the palace, and comes to meet me… And because she is a spirit, if I’m upstairs, she will come up through the floor. A horror type Resident.
Elianora is my personal maid. In short, her job is to look after me. Naturally, she has a high rank among the servants. It would normally be a head maid or butler at the top, but here at least, it seems to be Elianora. Unlike an ordinary castle, there is not much that needs doing here, so it’s easier for them to fill several roles…apparently.

Oh, Sophie-san came out into the hallway. I was going to ask Elianora, but it’s quicker to ask directly.

“Mm, Nemeseia…”
“Good day, Sophie-san. Has your body been okay since coming here?”
“No problem…”
“That’s good. How are things going?”
“I knew it would be the case…but it’s impossible to do it in a normal way…”

The very principle of how Immortals exist is different from that of the living, so it’s impossible to just devise a method of production, and it is instead necessary to start from the very beginning, with the selection of materials.

“The testing process has given a general direction to follow… next is to carefully select the materials and manufacturing method…”
“If there are any materials you need, I’ll find them for you.”
“It’s no problem, I have some on hand… and I’ll tell you the easiest way to do it right now….”
“You discovered something?”
“You can use [Magicise] on a potion before they drink it…”
“Ah, ahh…”
“Even if they’re potions, they’re still drinks…”

That was a blind spot… After using [Magicise], it’s possible for them to eat food and receive the buff. Then it should also be effective with potions.
If there is a problem, it’s that [Magicise] is a fairly rare art.

“I asked the Chancellor about [Magicise]… he said ‘it should be possible for Sire’…”
“I certainly do have it.”

It’s an art that requires alchemy and cooking, so there shouldn’t be many players that can use it. In addition, the effect of [Magicise] fades over time, so it can’t be used to create a stock of potions. To be honest, it’s possible, but not practical, so we will continue development…

“That’s all for the current report… Then, later…”
“Yes, thank you.”

Sophie-san walks away while stretching her body, presumably to take a break.

I’ll go and use the combat simulator. I’ll do some form training. It’s rather fun, after all.
I change the settings to allow up to eight enemies. For attack type, only long range. The position and attribute of the attacks are unspecified. If not specified, they are random. And limit the attack level to the same level as me.
…Thinking about it, in the case of Jedi and Sith, as well as reflecting with a lightsaber, they also attack using the Force. If I were to do it here, it would be [Telekinesis]. But about all I could do with that would be to move a mine around and hit them with it…
It would be great for RP if I could stop magic that is flying my way using [Telekinesis], but in my case I have reflection and parry, so it’s just a waste of MP… It is better to spend MP on attacking, as much as possible…

I reflect the attacks that shoot from the drones with Athame. It’s like a rhythm game, where I have to use Athame to hit things that come flying from all directions. This is more difficult when it is random.
It is hard because they are small, but when I have the room to do so, I aim the attacks back at the drones. In that sense, once I get used to it, it will make it easier to do in actual combat. The light and dark attacks I try not to parry, as much as possible. The reflect ability of my body automatically returns the attacks to the opponent. It’s much easier than doing it manually with Athame.
Since the drone attacks are random, even the speed at which they come differs. Additionally, these settings have them using magic up to the same level as me, so I need to move. However, moving without thought means running into a wall or mine.
Dealing with the physical arrow attacks is my highest priority. Even if I’m hit by one of the stronger magic attacks, the damage will be reduced, so it’s not a problem in terms of damage.

As I thought…more enemies means a thicker barrage of attacks, making it more effective to twirl around. Whether it’s just twirling the weapon, or moving my whole body, depends on the flow of the fight. If there’s no time to aim the reflections and speed is needed, it’s better to twirl.
In short, whether to attack with reflections or protect myself. Being able to make such a judgement is important in this kind of action game and this simulator is very good for training that. It’s convenient for getting used to the different patterns.

Whew… Let’s leave it at that for now.
Next is… Oh, the Nether can be upgraded. Let’s do it. Enma’s court and the castle town are upgraded to III. There’s a small change in appearance, but neither of these will benefit the players. At least, not in a way that has been discovered yet.
Alright, let’s go to the surface. For now, the Starting Town.

Level up, or take a walk…or alchemy is an option too. It’s fun to play around with materials, but should I go and gather something?

<<A World Quest has occurred.>>
<<Location: Inbamunt>>
<<You can apply to participate with the military personnel of the Principality of Markarant Navy.>>
<<Confirming the quest scale….. Complete. Setting as WQuest.>>
<<This quest will be a defence using armed ships.>>
<<It is recommended to refer to the help before deciding on your course of action.>>
<<Help has been updated.>

…Inbamunt! So one finally came to somewhere other than the Starting Town.
The time until it starts is not showing up… 『???』 might mean we need to confirm it ourselves somehow. I’ll check the help page for now.

※ Inbamunt Defence and Naval Battles
In this world quest, you will board an armed ship and fight against a giant aquatic creature.
There are several types of armed ships. Destroyers, that can be operated by a small number of people. Cruisers, with an average performance. Battleships, which excel in offence and defence in exchange for speed. Carriers for the flying races to rest their wings and supply ships are both automatic. Please check the detailed ship specifications when applying for the quest.
When applying for the quest, you will select the ship you want to board. If there are not enough people to operate the ship, matchmaking will activate.
You can apply in advance as a party, raid or union. In this case, you can choose whether or not to automatically fill vacancies. If you choose not to, you will not be able to choose a ship that does not have enough players.
Armed ships are affected by the stats of the players on board. Players will decide on the role they take aboard the ship, but each role has specific requirements. Choose the position that suits you best.
Races with alternative means of movement, such as flying or aquatic races, can apply solo. Depending on the number of solo players, carriers will automatically sortie.
Please enjoy yourself, with an unusual fantasy naval battle.

Ships…is it. I’m able to go solo too, but… let’s take a look first.
I’ll fly to Inbamunt for now. We don’t even know the start time yet. I mean, it’s a weekday, so the working group aren’t online yet…

Now then, here’s the sea…but where’s the Markarant Navy? I don’t remember seeing them, but it’s normal for them to exist.
…It might be fastest to ask. There are plenty of players gathering, but I’ll search for the marker of a Resident to talk to.

“Excuse me, where can I find the Markarant Navy?”
“If you continue down the south boulevard to the fish market, you’ll find the navy in a big building on the right.”
“Thank you very much. Then I’ll be going there.”
“Thank you for coming to help our town.”

Oh, so this was an event conversation. Special lines of dialogue. The Residents know that a defensive battle is coming.
By the way, this town is the only place in the Principality of Markarant that has access to the sea, so it is probably the navy headquarters that is here. It is located by the fish market…a place like Tsukiji, a big market for buying and selling fish and shellfish. The market is spread out around the harbour, and the navy headquarters is located at the southwest end.
So, let’s head there. …In subspace, because of the large number of people.

It’s about the size of a fire station. There are quite a few ships lined up in the harbour.
In the midst of the gathering players, I have spotted the TomoSuguRina parties. I’ll go meet up with them. And come out of subspace.

“Heya.”
“”Hey””
“New dress! Nice…but those boobs are lewd!”
“Umu. It looks like something you’d see in fiction.”
“But it’s a bit more modest!”
“It is quite modest when you think of it as a fictional ‘dark’ outfit!”
“Yes. So I’ll use it as it is.”

This is its first unveiling since I evolved. I’ve only been to the Nether since my evolution. I had mentioned what had changed at home and school, but hadn’t shown it yet.

“The succubi have a lot of underwear or bikini level outfits, but I wonder about the incubi…”
“…Speedo’s, maybe.”
“Is there…a demand for that…?”
“It’s probably popular with some?”
“Good looking guys wearing speedo’s around town…I really don’t know how I’d react to that…”

I have no idea what I’d say to seeing such a thing… Even if there are already players wearing loincloths.
Rina is staring at an Eye-chan, with her chin resting on my cleavage…

“Mm… Somehow the colour of the eye changed… Uwa, a help section has been added!”
“Ah, that’s right, the flavour text said not to have staring contests with them. …Or the other party’s safety isn’t guaranteed.”
“Magic eyes… so there’s something like that. There are probably cockatrices and basilisks, so we’ll have to be careful…”
“Oh? Give me the new help too.”

I’ll do a full circle with «Eye-chan’s» using [Eye of Stagnation]. I’ll use [Search Magic] too. A bit of new help terrorism.

“『Uoh!?』”
“Oh…it seems pretty traditional!”
“Right. It doesn’t seem to have any particular twist. I’m curious about artificial evil eyes…”
“You’ll end up blind.”

As Rina says, if there’s a failure, you’ll end up unable to see… It’s written in a way that implies it’s either forbidden or incomplete. Anyway, even [Magic Sight] and the like are types of magic eye.

…stare…
“Stop that.”

I grab the sphere that has started another staring contest…Mmm. The spheres of these «Eye-chan’s» have a very addictive feel to them…

“Slime… no, memory foam… mochi or bread dough?”
“Ohh…this Eye-chan feels nice…”

It seems that the spheres are just spheres and not the main body of the Eye-chan’s. Even if they’re crushed or stretched, it seems that you can’t stick your fingers into the eyes, so you can do so without hesitation.

Now, let’s get back to the event.

“So, what’s the situation?”
“They’re detecting signs, but they’re still investigating the cause.”
“I see. Which means the start time is unknown because they haven’t found the location yet.”
“That’s right. It seems that the flying and aquatic teams have already gone looking for it, so we should get some information soon.”

So we’re in the investigation phase.

“Looking at the board, it sounds like hell in the air and in the water…”

It seems that there are a lot of underwater monsters that have escaped from the big ones, and the flying monsters are gathering to catch the fish… which is making the investigation quite difficult. Someone will get through with information sooner or later though.
There is a military officer, the event NPC, in front of the navy headquarters. Approaching him gives access to the event UI.

“This battleship, it’s the Yamato.”
“The Yamato. But the convergent magic cannon is lol.”

Information on the battleships… there are two types of battleship?

Military Ships.
Warships made for the purpose of combat, they can be considered large wands in the shape of ships, created by applying the technology of turning metal into a magic catalyst.
The armaments on board are based on the weapons used by armoured type’s, using magic power to fire.

Super Dreadnought Battleships
Battleships have excellent range, high offensive and defensive capabilities and low mobility.
However, they require a large crew to operate and are conspicuous and easy targets.
While they are armed with weapons that can deal with various types of monsters both on or below the water surface, and in the sky, they will be forced into a tough battle if they are boarded.
Recommendation: Long distance attacks.

Armament List
46cm triple barrel magic cannon: 3 units.
15.5cm triple barrel magic cannon: 2 units.
12.7cm triple barrel, wide-angle magic cannon: 12 units.
25mm triple barrel, wide-angle magic cannon: 52 units.
25mm single barrel magic cannon: 8 units.
180cm convergent magic cannon: 1 unit.
High pressure magic shield : 10+4 units.

Firing Modes
 High-explosive rounds: 46cm or 15.5cm.
 Armour-piercing rounds: 46cm or 15.5cm.
 Type 3 AA rounds: 15.5cm or 12.7cm.
 Torpedoes: 12.7cm or 25mm.
 Bombs: 12.7cm or 25mm.

The other one is a fast battleship. It’s a type of battleship that can be operated by a smaller number of people than the super dreadnought type. It has fewer weapons in exchange for increased speed.
There are also two destroyers and two cruisers.

“You can only use a destroyer or cruiser as a single party.”
“Battleships are for raids and unions.”
“The question is…”
“What use the cruiser is.”

The two destroyer types are ‘weak to submerged enemies, but strong cannons and anti-air’ or ‘weak cannons and anti-air, but strong attack and defence against submerged enemies’
The two cruisers are ‘a standard ship that excels in searching for enemies’ and one that has ‘weak cannons and anti-air, but strong attack against submerged enemies’.
Oh, Fairellen-san has come. She’s still at a bit of a distance, but I’ll wave my hand to let her know where we are.

“Hi, hi~!”
“We finally got to come to a place outside the Starting Town.”
“Hey! You’re back in a princess dress!”
“It’s back with this evolution.”
“A princess has to have a dress! Uwa, what a line-up.”
“You know about ships, Fairellen-san?”
“Mm….I can narrow them down from the armaments?”

She’s playing with the UI, so probably looking into it. And…there’s also the BBS.

“The battleships are Yamato-class and Kongo-class. The cruisers are Tone-class and Kuma-class torpedo variant. The destroyers look like Akizuki-class and Shimakaze…? They went with quite well known ones~!”
“So they’re similar enough to the originals that you can identify them?”
“The armament names are a little different, but they are more or less the same. …Well, there are monsters in the water, in this world. Ships strong against underwater enemies will be in high demand in this world.”

Apparently the ships that have a lot of torpedo tubes instead of cannons are called heavy torpedo cruisers. Though it looks like they use guns, rather than torpedo tubes, against submerged enemies.

“Mu~…ships are good, but should I start off in the sky~?”
“Shall I go for the sky too? It would be nice to check the specs first.”
“It looks like it will get more difficult in the order of Tone, Kongo, Yamato, Akizuki, Kuma, Shimakaze and solo.”

The ships have restrictions on which races can board them. Mainly for golems and larger types. Giants are limited to one destroyer. Golems can only board battleships.
Party applications can be done for specific races, both in the air and water. In other words, you can party with only races that can fight in the air, and with only races that can fight in the water.

“The solo players get a choice of either the port or a carrier for respawn~.”
“And for the ship teams, they are returned to the ship selection at the port, if they sink.”
“Solos are obviously going to get back more quickly… well, they’ll probably die more though…”
“There’s nowhere to hide at sea~…”
“By the way, what about those with flying mounts?”
“Knowing the management here, they can probably go solo… but it looks painful.”

Like Rina said, there are those with flying monsters or summons, but Fairellen-san is probably right that it would be tough. They will be a much larger target than the races that can fly under their own power. It would be better for the races that can fly to use the flying summons.

“Ah, not seen you since school.”
“So it’s Lapis-san. It has been just a little while.”
“Want to join us again?”
“Please, if you don’t mind.”
“Sure.”

Lapis-san, our classmate, will be joining Tomo’s party. She looks to have gotten quite accustomed to this game lately…her equipment has been updated properly.

“It’s a great game, though, isn’t it? I didn’t think we’d get to use ships in a naval battle.”
“It’s not a great surprise if this happens when defending a port town…”
“It’s an RPG that covers a lot of genres, so there’s plenty of variety!”

Do we need to wait for the enemy to come at the pier or the beach? That said, the ships don’t need to wait.
The docks and beach will be used as the final line of defence, but it will be unbearable if «Water Magic» is used from offshore. «Water Magic» receives a bonus when used in the sea or a river, so it will give a huge advantage to the enemy side. Because water is almost ineffective against water monsters. It’s doubtful we can completely prevent the aftermath if a large one shows up. Humans will die easily just from the waves caused by its body.
With that in mind…it probably means it’s better to sortie by ship.

“Well, I can do it, so I’ll enjoy it.”
“If you don’t like it, you can either not participate next time, or join up with another group.”
“Right.”

If you can or not isn’t the same as if you will or not.

“Oh, the twins are over there…”
“Are the twins also joining the sky team this time~?”
“The enemies shouldn’t use light, but the problem is their flight speed.”
“You’re just a target if you can’t evade, in the sky~.”
“It’s going to be hell for salamanders this time…”
“That’s right!”

The first batch are at a higher level and shouldn’t suffer from a 4x attribute weakness anymore, but even so, fairies have low HP, so it’s doubtful they can withstand being hit with their weakness… They are at least still a race with a small physique, that are quite good at evading.
Anyway, I’ll catch the twins.

“”Princess is wearing a dress again!””
“Managing the Afterworld got turned into a proper role.”
“”Princess is still our boss!””
“That’s right.”

The twins sometimes receive quests to take stranded souls to the Nether. It’s a combination of grim reaper and ferryman. They seem to be guiding the souls from this world to the Nether, rather than to the Sanzu River. In other words, they seem to have been given the same job as they performed with the lantern they had before evolving.

Among my friends, the twins are the youngest, followed by Primula-san. In other words… they are quite adorable.
The women in Tomo’s party are the so-called priest… Limina-san, an elf who uses support magic with a wand. And there is Holina-san, a machinery scout who uses a longbow. And at the moment there is Lapis-san too.
Rina’s party members are all female and Fairellen-san looks small due to being a fairy, but is an adult.
From the twins’ point of view, there are many older sisters. There are also plenty of older brothers, such as Tomo, Sugu, and the tank of Tomo’s party, Razeg-san. There is also Mohican-san, who is very much the odd one out. There’s also Mutt-san, or Vincent… who I’ve seen making a lot of noise, very much acting the age of the twins…
Well, I’m glad that they seem to enjoy themselves even while surrounded by older people.

<<World Quest information has been updated.>>
<<Servers are now open. You will be assigned to a server after applying for participation.>>

“『Ohh… Kraken!』”

I don’t know if it’s a squid or an octopus, but it’s a kraken. The start time is also being shown. The working people should be able to join if they hurry…probably.

“What do you two want to do?”
“”Sky!””
“Oh, you’re motivated. Then let’s team up.”
“”Yay!””

I’ll invite the twins and Fairellen-san.

“Come to think of it, maybe this is my first time in a party with Princess?”
“Because it has always been a union, but different parties.”
“Shall we apply now then?”
“『Yeah.』”

The population density of the surrounding area is thinning, so they must be transferring away after applying. We also apply to join and move. Even if we move though, it’s only the players around us that change.

“Ah, we can test out the ships.”
“Really. Let’s give them a try.”
“『Oh?』”

Certainly…we can get on board the ships. I assume it is so we can check the detailed specs. That said, we don’t really need to test them, because we’re heading into the sky. Rather, let’s see them in action from the air.

The party leaders, Tomo and Rina, have applied, so their members also disappear. We’re heading for the harbour too.

“….Hmm.”
“”Tomo’s ship!””
“Akirina’s ship… so it’s the party leader…”
“Well, it’s easy to understand.”

It looks like they are very similar to the ships they are modelled after. I don’t know the details of the originals, so there’s not a lot I can say, but…they must be pretty close, because there are people getting excited.
Tomo’s party took a cruiser, Rina’s a destroyer.

“Wahaa…. I see….”
“It was written in the help that different armaments require different stats…”
“No, isn’t this too hard?”
“”It’s impossible!””

Tomo, Sugu and…Razeg-san, is it.

“It’s impossible to specialise in fleet warfare if we’re stationary or semi-stationary!”
“Limina-san, can you be the chief engineer?”
“It’s difficult because the ship can only go backwards and forwards, and it’s slow to turn…”
“Destroyers are better for ease of movement!”
“Hmm… will this change the party leader to Limina-san?”
“Maybe it’s better if Tomo is the chief engineer!”

Ah, there’s more information on the BBS.

The captain, chief engineer and gunnery officer are necessary… the others are optional. So at least three people are needed to operate it.
Tomo is a pure attack type and Limina-san is a priest-type…so should they switch? A priest should have high maximum MP.

“Limina-san is the captain, I’m the engineer. Sugu and Lapis-san will be gunnery officers, and Razeg will be a supply officer. Holina-san is the ship’s officer. We don’t have a medical officer, but we’ll have to make do.”
“It can’t be helped. Won’t it be the same for most parties?”
“”Of course!””

There are six people in a party. Generally, a tank, 4 attackers and a healer. Most parties will have a majority of people built in a way suitable for gunners. Tomo’s party has 3 attackers and 1 scout, so they are a bit better off.
It seems like those of us on the flight team can also land on the deck, so let’s get onboard, rather than flying nearby.

“So, how do we shoot with this?”
“Is there an event window? I think this is it.”
“Oh, this, is it…? It looks like we’ll be busy?”
“Hmm….think it’s fine for the largest turret to fire automatically at the boss?”
“When it comes to it, won’t it be the wide-angle cannons that will be busy?”
“It looks like this one can use all the bullet types… But the big turret will be in charge of the main firepower, so anti-air or anti-submerged will be the priority.”

Sugu and Lapis-san, the gunnery officers, have confirmed that it’s possible to select a bullet type for each turret and that it’s possible for each one to aim at a separate enemy. The firing modes are auto or manual. The manual mode seems to give you the estimated point of impact.
Even people other than the gunnery officers can operate a cannon by approaching it and there are smaller guns attached to each turret. The advantage of the gunnery officer is that they have a UI that allows them to operate all the cannons from anywhere on the ship.
The number of rounds is also displayed, and the captain can request a supply ship, so it should be possible to resupply. Or solo players can carry supplies from the port or supply ship.

“I don’t really understand the difference between bullet types…?”
“”Ah…””

Well, unless you’ve been exposed to them in a game or something, it’s more likely that you wouldn’t know…

“High-explosive rounds are exploding bullets for use against enemies with low defence. Armour-piercing rounds are intended for enemies with high defence. The type 3 is…like an anti-air shotgun. The torpedo goes in a straight line after firing, and the bombs are thrown out.
“We won’t know what will work on which enemy until after we’ve fired it!”
“Well, we can say that the type 3 is for anything in the sky, but we’ll have to wait and see with the torpedoes and bombs…”
“There don’t seem to be any torpedo tubes, so I don’t know how they work… Let’s check it out right away!”

There are targets placed all around, so they are test-firing at them.
The cannon fires, leaving only a high pitched, metallic sound and the spherical projectile hits the target and explodes. That looks like it was a high-explosive round.
Another high pitched, metallic sound, but this time something that looks like a lance flies out and hits the target. That one is an armour-piercing round.
The type 3…explodes in the sky.

“That looks like the bows [Aero Flak].”
“Just what is a type 3…”
“Type 3 (with proximity fuse)”
“Well, it’s good that it’s convenient!”

That wide-angle magic cannon… isn’t it quite high performance? It seems possible to point it down so that it could even be used against submerged enemies. And being a magic gun, there should be no recoil, right? Well, the placement of the wide-angle cannon differs depending on the ship, so it is easier to fire nearby from the smaller ships.

The bombs are spheres that fly like grenades and explode in the water.

“We won’t self-destruct with these….will we?”
“I don’t know if we’ll be able to get a direct hit on enemies, though…”

After a torpedo was fired, it dove a little, before proceeding forward just below the surface. After moving slowly at a rather shallow depth, there was a big explosion.

“Do the torpedoes have the highest firepower?”
“I don’t think I can hit a monster with them.”
“Range is also a problem. It’s about half of the main cannon.”

The torpedo has a short range and a slow speed, but it is very powerful. And because it’s a torpedo, it travels near the surface, so you have to choose your target well. The kraken will be big, so that should be fine, but… what about other aquatic monsters?

“Mm!? Uwawawa! Look at this!”
“Is that.. a naval mine…?”
“Got it from a nearby ship, but it looks like we could use it for aerial bombardment!”
“Then it’s obviously not the same as a naval mine…”
“I don’t know what it is, but it’s good!”

…Ah, really. So we can get naval mines. Could I just drop those if I run low on MP?
When Fairellen-san takes one and flies out a bit to throw it away, the explosion sends up a considerable column of water.

“…Is there a bonus from speed?”
“It’s possible.”
“Well, get greedy, though, and the sea will turn red!”

Your own blood, I see. The typical style of the fairies.

“Using the ships looks fun~.”
“But our party is too unbalanced when it comes to running a ship.”
“”No supply officer!””
“If I were to do it, ships officer might be best, but most of my acquaintances are inhumans…”
“For me, it would be gunnery or engineer~.”
“Inhumans really are quite biased…”

Well then, I should finish things on the real side before the defence battle starts. Solo players don’t have to prepare anything in particular…
The ship team seems to be busy checking the specs of their ships. …Mainly the research lovers.

“Mm, let’s get everything done on the real side. See you later!”
“Yes, later.”
“”Later!””

We’ll disband for now, but once everything is finished outside the game we can enjoy the event without worrying.

Please report us if you find any errors so we can fix it asap!
