Chapter 12 True Strength

It was not Odin unable to see the Father’s face. It was the moment the Father arrived, he felt his heart was grasped tightly by a hand causing suffocate in horror.

A thick black mist covered his eyes but he could only widen his eyes instinctively. He felt the pain in his chest and it made him wish to storm out of the church but he was unable to lift his feet as though they became a heavy lump of metal. It was impossible for him to run.

This situation continued for some time until the Father ended his daily prayer. As the crowd began standing up to leave, Odin was jolted up from the bone-chilling fear.

He gradually raised his feet while restraining himself from revealing any expression, he weaved through the crowd and left hastily.

Odin had not completely sobered up despite him leaving the church as the feeling he received just now was too terrifying. It was the fresh aroma of the white flowers that restored his rationality.

He headed to a secluded area in the university and sat down cross-legged. He closed his eyes and carefully recalled everything that happened today.

The Father of the God of Death was odd as glancing at him could cause intense fear. Odin was fatigued as he massaged his head since he exhausted his mental strength.

Based on his judgment of the Father, it was non-viable for him to use the God of Death to deal with the Black Death Society. Ultimately, he could only rely on himself.

Clenching his fist tightly, Odin thought since external help was out of the question, he could only put in the effort to strengthen himself and raise his EXP. As long as he reached the peak, Black Death Society would be nothing to him.

But how to raise my EXP?

Odin frowned and carefully pondered for methods to increase his EXP and strength in a short time.

All of a sudden, the Ground Combat Club popped into his mind. He recalled it was due to him grinding EXP from the sibling that Senior Annie’s ambush had failed and he avoided becoming a vessel for the Black Death Society.

That’s right! The club was a place to grind EXP. His EXP and strength would grow for sure if he sweated blood to practice combat, learn higher-level combat skills, and spar with stronger opponents.

His learning capability was immense as he had the assistance of the system.

Odin glanced at the time and saw it was four o’clock in the afternoon. He stood and patted the dirt off his body. He raised his spirits as his gaze brightened. Since he decided to rely on himself, then he must make use of every second for him to boost his strength.

After he reached the club, Carlot stopped him and asked, “Odin, I heard from that spectacle-kid that you went to the church of the God of Death? Is anything wrong?”

Although he did not admit it, he deeply admired Odin’s brilliance and understood Odin could make the Detroit Ground Combat Club shine brightly in the future. Therefore he was worried when he heard Odin go to the church.

Looking at Carlot’s worried yet distrustful gaze, Odin let out a sigh. He doubted what the spectacle-kid told the siblings. Why was Carlot staring at him with such a complex gaze?!

“Heh, I’m fine. I went to look for the Father hoping for his help but it seems to be useless.” Odin subconsciously ignored the episode he encountered in the church. Before he figured out what was going on, it would be dire if he accidentally dragged down the siblings.

“It’s great you’re fine. Why don’t you have a spar with us now?” Carlot patted Odin’s shoulder with his huge hand. He needed to verify Odin’s true strength.

Odin already had such a plan, thus he immediately agreed. “I was just going to look for you, it’s a perfect time for you to invite me.”

He followed Carlot to a specialized sparring arena. It was a sparring arena made out of logs since they were the sturdiest part of the wood. A well-crafted log could even break a metal like butter. A circle of black iron fences was on top of the log as it was the only metal material stronger than logs.

Ordinary students were not allowed to spar in this arena unless they reached a certain realm or there was an official match.

Odin glanced at the arena and some tiny words appeared on the log.

【High-Quality Log】

“…”

The arena size was not huge but it had a high-quality log.

“So, who’s first?” Odin propped on the black iron fences and did a flip, landing steadily in the arena.

“I’ll go first.” Carna had been waiting by the side of the arena for some time. “I’ve been practicing hard these two days and I’ve improved a lot. Let me spar with you. If you can’t win against me then forget about my sister and brother!”

In the past when Odin was sparring with Carna, she was stuck in between training skills and exhibition skills but her skills exceeded other students. Odin spent quite some effort to defeat her the last time they spar.

“Come on then!” Odin smiled and posed his sparring stance.

Carna advanced quite a bit since she was Carlot and Cardory’s sister. Her talent and strength should not be too far off.

Her moves were quick and each of them was aiming at Odin’s weak points. She masterfully used her flexibility and agility to shift around the arena.

If it was Carna who just began learning combat skills, Odin still had a chance to win. But now, it was too demanding.

Under Odin’s constant defeats, a message popped in front of him.

【Detroit Ground Combat Technique – Exhibition Skill, Level 1. Agility +0.2, Strength +0.3 and Constitution +0.1.】

There was a small ‘+’ symbol at the end of the message just as the same when he learned training skills. Odin used his mind to click the ‘+’ while resisting Carna’s swift attacks.

Odin felt his stamina could not hold on. However, he felt a surge of energy flow through his body the moment he clicked the ‘+’ symbol. His body was warm and the stamina he lost had been restored.
