Su Qianxun, too, instantly put down her chopsticks and chased after her friend. When she found Gu Mian, she was vomiting into a trash can. The students who walked past her were staring at her with baffled looks on their faces.
Su Qianxun quickly bought a bottle of water and ran towards her. She patted Gu Mian on the back and handed her the water. “Mian Mian, are you pregnant?”
Gu Mian immediately shook her head. “No, Qianxun, my stomach hurts. I have to go to the hospital.”
“Let’s go right now.” Su Qianxun saw the painful look on Gu Mian’s face and quickly walked her out of the university.
On their way to the hospital, Su Qianxun saw that Gu Mian was in so much pain that there was a layer of sweat on her face. Su Qianxun kept urging the taxi driver to drive faster.
In the doctor’s office.
“Have you been taking pills that irritate your stomach?” the doctor asked.
“I have been taking morning after pills lately. Maybe I’ve had too many of them?” Ever since Gu Mian miscarried, she bought a bottle of morning after pills. She took them regularly, usually with an empty stomach.
Su Qianxun stared at her, puzzled. Never had she thought that her friend needed to take birth control pills regularly.
“Too many of them? Why are you tormenting your own body, young lady? You’ll not only get gastric pain, but also suffer from hormonal imbalance. Worse still, you might eventually become infertile!” the female doctor said solemnly.
Su Qianxun saw the frail look on Gu Mian’s face and her heart ached. “Doctor, then what else can she do to prevent pregnancy? She’s already married, by the way.”
Gu Mian was sitting across the doctor’s desk in silence and feeling awfully sorry for herself…
“You got married at such a young age? If you don’t want kids for the time being, you can ask your husband to put on condoms. Do not take morning after pills again. I’m not saying this to purposely freak you out. But if you really become infertile because of the pills, you’ll regret it,” the female doctor said as she prescribed Gu Mian some medicine and told her to take it on time.
On their way back to campus, Su Qianxun asked with concern, “Mian Mian, what on earth is going on with you?”
“I think I’m still young. I don’t want kids, so I bought some morning after pills for myself. Who knew that there were so many serious side effects?” Gu Mian smiled at her. She did not want her friend to worry.
“Then, you could’ve taken other birth control options”
“Um, I know. I won’t take the pills anymore.”

She was still very worried, but this was a private matter between Gu Mian and her husband. She did not have the right to intervene.
“If you don’t feel well, you can go home and rest. I’ll explain to Bai Weimi about your condition.”
