Chapter 48

‘What on earth is going on here?’

Bewildered, Rosenia looked alternately at the three people who were the centre of the commotion.

When Enric met Rosenia’s eyes, he smiled awkwardly, then brushed off the dust from his clothes and stood up. Adrian and Alex, who were growling at each other, paused and turned their heads towards me.

Resenia met Adrian’s icy stare head-on and did not avoid it.

After a while, Adrian let Alex go.

Alex stumbled and let out a slight cough, then he nodded at Llewellyn. After that, he hurried over to Enric’s side and supported him.

“What happened?”

Llewellyn asked, examining the three of them slowly.

To no surprise, Adrian just ignored Llewellyn and didn’t answer. Instead, Enric tried to explain, but Alex quickly beat him to it and began to talk. “That crazy Head of the Mage Tower threatened Sir Lovitz. I was passing by and stopped him, and then the situation you witnessed earlier… occurred.”

Adrian glared at him coldly, probably offended by Alex’s polite yet sarcastic tone. However, Alex responded to his glare with an unyielding attitude. He was indeed like a man who lived like there’s no tomorrow.

“… Sir Enric Lovitz is my master and a very important figure who teaches many other knights. Adrian Hill, is it true that you threatened him?”

“…”

Llewellyn asked in a rather heavy tone, but Adrian didn’t answer. As if he didn’t even want to bother talking to him.

Rosenia had no choice but to step forward. She shook her head as she approached Adrian.

“Brother.”

“…”

“Why did you do that? Sir Enric Lovitz is also our maternal uncle. Don’t tell me it was you who threw our uncle to the floor?”

When she asked in a soothing voice, Adrian, who was looking at her, sighed. Complex emotions flashed in his bright red eyes.

“Did you say Uncle? How ridiculous.”

With that single sentence, Rosenia understood the whole situation.

She didn’t know the details, but Adrian and Sir Enric must have run into each other in the hallway, and they probably talked about their mother.

Adrian, whose emotions tend to run high when it came to his mother, must have caused this accident. Still, Sir Enric was a member of the Lovitz family…

‘Well, Adrian hates the Lovitzs as much as he does the Rasianes.’

… But, did Adrian know? The fact that their mother was an illegitimate daughter of the Lovitz family.

‘I’m sure Father knows about it. Am I the only one who didn’t know?’

If so, then it was really unfair. Rosenia couldn’t believe she was the only one in her family who didn’t know about her mother.

Holding a little grudge, she asked, “Did you also know, Brother? About our mother.”

“…”

“You did, didn’t you? I guess I was the only one who was in the dark about her. Father must have told you. You all kept hiding it from me and treated me like a child.”

“Rosenia.”

Adrian sighed deeply and called her quietly. She wanted to hear what he had to say, so she crossed her arms and glared at him.

“We only hid things about our mother from you for your sake.”

“Really? I didn’t know that treating me like an ignorant fool was for my sake.”

“Don’t talk like that.”

“Then how should I? Brother, you always hide important things from me. Do you know how stupid I feel when I find them out later?”

“…”

As the two of them started arguing, the others watched them in bewilderment. Even the unruly Alex was silent.

Adrian was silent for a moment before saying, a little exasperatedly, “You don’t know anything, Rosenia.”

“Yeah, I don’t know anything. Because you never tell me anything! That’s the problem, Adrian!”

The moment Rosenia shouted, the door of the room burst open.

And the person who opened the door was their father.

He glanced through the chaotic hallway, and looked back and forth between Adrian and Rosenia.

Then, he shook his head with an expression that said ‘They’re fighting again’. Rosenia shut her mouth in bewilderment. She was clearly angry for a valid reason, but she felt like she was an immature child who constantly fought with her brother.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but let’s head inside before we talk. Duke Rasiane, you too.”

After saying that, Rosenia’s father, who was about to enter the room again, suddenly stopped. His gaze fell on Enric.

“…”

Her father looked at Enric quietly for a moment, and then nodded his head as if to greet him. Enric bowed more politely to her father.

‘These two must know each other.’

Rosenia entered the room with that sullen thought. Before she knew it, Llewellyn was clinging to her side.

Adrian’s expression crumpled when he glanced at him. He clenched his fist as if he wanted to use violence against Llewellyn at any moment, but he didn’t do it.

While she glared at Adrian, Rosenia sat down with Llewellyn on the sofa. Her father was already sitting across from her.

After Adrian sat down, her father looked around them and spoke in a solemn voice, “You two are so old and yet you’re still fighting like kids?”

“…”

Adrian sat silent, but Rosenia’s mouth was itching to get out the words she had in mind. After all, her father had kept the facts about her mother only from her all this time.

“Rosenia, I understand that you feel suffocated because of Adrian’s overprotectiveness. But Adrian did it because he cares for you more than anyone else, so please understand him”

“…”

“And Adrian, I understand that you worry a lot about Rosenia, but Rose is at an age where she needs to be self-reliant. She can no longer be under anyone’s shadow. Also…”

“…”

“From now on, practice being more honest with each other. I know you find it difficult, but still express your feelings honestly. You’re less likely to have arguments with Rose if you do.”

… There was nothing wrong with her father’s words. They magically calmed down the rebellious spirit within her.

Looking back, it seemed it had always been this way. The former infamous Head of Mage Tower, Cloud Hill was actually a very good mediator and could easily resolve any conflict.

‘I fell in love with that side of your father.’

Rosenia suddenly remembered what her mother said.

“And Duke Rasiane, I sincerely apologize for the all the fuss my children have caused. I will apologize to Sir Enric and the boy separately at a later time.”

“That’s all right. You don’t have to apologize separately. I’ll convey it to the both of them.”

For the first time, a satisfied expression appeared on her father’s face as he watched Llewellyn speak politely. He must have liked Llewellyn’s calm and upright demeanor.

Well, Llewellyn was usually like that. He only became crazy whenever he pounced at her.

“Since we’ve all gathered together like this, I’m thinking of starting the previous conversation again… What do you think?”

Her father asked, looking at her, Llewellyn, and Adrian alternately.

Rosenia naturally agreed. She had after all, come all the way here for it even though there were few unexpected incidents.

“Of course, I agree.

“Me, too.”

When Llewellyn spoke, Rosenia immediately cut him off and nodded. Her father nodded his chin as if he expected it, and then moved his gaze to Adrian.

Even though he anticipated it, Adrian still kept clenching his fist with a stiff look.

“Adrian, what do you think?”

“…”

Their father asked, but Adrian didn’t answer and stared at Rosenia uncomfortably.

He looked cold and indifferent as always, but his eyes looked strangely pitiful.

As she kept looking at him, Rosenia felt a sense of guilt, so she avoided his gaze. Then, after a while, Adrian muttered, “…Okay.”

It was clear from his voice that he had agreed reluctantly. When Rosenia took a peek at him, she saw that he had taken his gaze off her at some point and was staring at the table.

“Good, you made the right decision.”

Their father smiled benevolently and patted Adrian on the shoulder. Rosenia felt somewhat bothered by how Adrian didn’t look good, but somehow their second meeting began.

The one who started the conversation was, of course, Rosenia’s father.

“Well, I have already given my permission, but there has been something on my mind. Who was that lady who came to see you earlier?”

“Oh…”

Adrian’s eyes gleamed when Llewellyn responded to their father’s question with a single exclamation.

Adrian glared at him menacingly, as if he would slit Llewellyn’s neck if he answered incorrectly. However, Llewellyn was not at all intimidated by his glare and spoke calmly, “That woman, Miss Sierra Oscar, is the daughter of Killian Oscar, my parents’ former personal physician. She came to seek my help for some reason, but do you want me to tell you in detail?”

“Yes, tell us in detail.”

When their father didn’t answer, Adrian cut in. Rosenia glared at Adrian dumbfounded, but he ignored her.

Llewellyn glanced at Adrian, then at their father, and said, “Okay, I will tell you in detail. Miss Oscar has the ability…”

Llewellyn told them everything about Sierra’s capability of and what had happened to her.

After listerning to the whole story, Rosenia’s father nodded and muttered.

“So, that’s how it is… All right, thank you, Duke Rasiane, for telling us.”

“Oh no, it was nothing.”

Adrian had a sullen look on his face, maybe because it wasn’t what he expected. Perhaps he was hoping that Sierra would become a huge problem between Llewellyn and Rosenia.

“As I mentioned before, you have my approval for your engagement. Your heart seems sincere, and Rosenia also seems to like you…”

Llewellyn smiled shyly at their father’s praise, making Adrian look at him with disgust as if he were looking at a bug.

“But Adrian is still against it.”

As Lord Hill’s heavy gaze turned to Adrian, he affirmed in with his silence. He was still against Rosenia’s engagement to Llewellyn.

After a moment of silence, Lord Hill spoke again.

“Adrian, tell us your opinion. What needs to be done for you to approve Rose’s engagement to the Duke of Rasiane?”

“…”

Adrian, who had been sitting quietly for a while, slowly raised his head after hearing the question.

There was an unusual glow in his red eyes which made Rosenia frown. And, as expected, Adrian threw a bombshell.

“If Llewellyn Rasiane takes the ‘Oath of the Heart,’ I will also approve.”
