As soon as Yernia got up from her chair, Cassian grabbed her arm.

“I haven’t answered you yet. I’m asking you again why you’re asking me if I liked the kiss yesterday.”

“I was just asking you out of courtesy.”

“What do you think?”

Yernia rolled her eyes and looked at Cassian with as much arrogance as she could, but she immediately thought such a reaction might look tackier.

As Cassian stared at Yernia while fixing the towel on his forehead, the sudden feeling of remorse spread in her mind.

What had she ever done against this sick man?

Why did he have to insist on asking?

“I don’t care on what you have to say so never mind.”

“Why? Are you scared that I’m going to tell you it wasn’t that good?”

“No. Your fever was high yesterday and I understand that you’re having a hard time physically and mentally. I think it’s possible.”

Actually, Yernia couldn’t understand a thing.

She just said she did.

No matter how sick she got, she wouldn’t kiss anyone without a reason.

Now, she wasn’t interested in knowing why Cassian kissed her anymore.

If Cassian would tease her like he usually did, she would rather die.

Ignorance was bliss.

“I might have kissed you impulsively, but I did it because it was you.”

“…….”

“I wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t you.”

Why was Cassian saying this?

Kissing was an act that people who liked each other, or at least Yernia would.

But she kissed Cassian yesterday, whom she didn’t even like.

The same was true of her childhood friend.

He would never like her that way, so why did he kiss her?

What if it was a prank?

She would have cried if she found out Cassian stole some kisses to tease her and toy with her feelings.

It was her first kiss, and even if it wasn’t the first time, the kiss should be exciting.

“I wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t you.”

She felt uneasy after thinking about this.

She shouldn’t feel like being more than a friend to Cassian.

Herena would appear soon after and Cassian would fall in love with her in an instant.

It was natural for the male and female protagonist to love each other and Yernia was nothing more than his childhood friend.

Yernia should draw the line first.

She should believe that what happened yesterday was impulsive and Cassian had done it for no reason.

“You were sick. I kissed you back because I don’t want to reject it when you’re ill.”

What did she mean?

“You must have had such a strong spirit to serve.”

“I’m always like that.”

Yernia had gone crazy and decided to shut up.

Since a while ago, her lips had moved as if someone had it under control.

Yernia pushed Cassian’s hand away.

“I think I’m going to lose my temper if  you wake me from my nap. You should get some sleep, Cassian.”

Yernia said as she left the room.

***

All Yernia did these days was manage the the Lecardo Household instead of helping Cassian recover in the duke’s study.

She needed to invite other noble ladies to form friendships, but unfortunately, she was in the middle of an emergency.

The Duke wasn’t here to assist her because he was ill, and no aristocrats should know about this secret.

“Why did you do that? Why did you do that?”

*BOOM*

*BOOM*

Yernia had bumped her head into the bookcase.

She sighed shamefully.

She was already halfway there if she hadn’t said anything.

Her one and only regret was not keeping her mouth shut.

She didn’t even have any idea how long it had been.

As soon as she entered the study, Yernia went to the corner and pretended to choose a book as she beat herself up in her thoughts.

“Good. Good.”

Yernia screamed silently and hit her head hard.

Her tears had sprang out along with a thud as she rammed her hurt forehead too much.

The bookshelf seemed to shake slightly as she continued to hit herself with it.

“Be careful, Yernia.” An arm suddenly hung over her head as she felt a heavy presence from behind. “Don’t put yourself in danger.”

Following that voice, Yernia looked over her shoulder.

Cassian had a book in his hand as if he had caught it before it fell at the top of her head.

She turned fully and glanced up at him.

Cassian’s breath was harsh, as if he had rushed there to save her.

Perhaps, the falling book had surprised him, too.

“Why are you here, Cassian? You’re supposed to be lying in bed.”

“I came here to find someone who left me hanging in the air. I didn’t even get to hear your response.”

“I told you not to care about it anymore.”

Cassian pushed the book back to its original position before facing her.

Yet, the hand on the bookshelf remained in place as he stared at her for a moment.

“Really? Why are you telling me that?”

“…….”

She decided not to listen.

She didn’t even want to wonder about it.
