“Mom, sit down and try this. It took me a long time to teach Daddy how to make this.” Shen Nian mischievously stuck out his tongue at Lian Jing, then pushed the spoon into her hands. “This is Mom’s favorite lotus root pork rib soup.”
Shen Yin smiled and took a sip. The soup had a rich fragrance. Her eyes lit up as she looked at Lian Jing and praised him. “President Lian, you’re such a good cook. You’re much better than me.”
“I’m glad you like it.” It was rare for Lian Jing to sit shyly opposite Shen Yin. Seeing that she liked it, he filled a big bowl of soup for her. He specially placed a few pork ribs in her bowl, that had been braised until they were soft.
“Daddy, you’re so biased. I want some too.” Shen Nian could not help but act coquettishly with Lian Jing.
It seemed that their interaction in the kitchen had bridged the gap between father and son.
Satisfied, Lian Jing scooped a bowl for Shen Nian and Grandpa Lian. The usually stern President was not only doing a servant’s job, he looked very pleased to do so.
After the family had a happy meal together, Shen Nian pestered Lian Jing to construct the limited edition Lego set with him.
Shen Yin stood outside the study and watched quietly. She saw Shen Nian’s face reveal a childishness that she had never seen before. It was as if she was looking at her younger self, yearning for a father’s love.
She had lost her father when she was young. That was also the reason why she had the courage to give birth to Shen Nian alone.
Her numb heart had instinctively ignored the importance of a father to a child. It was only when she saw Shen Nian today that she realized that no matter how hard she worked as a mother, she would never be able to replace a father’s role in her child’s development.
A child could not do without either his father or his mother’s love.

The next day was Lian Jing’s birthday. Shen Yin had just gotten off work when she saw Lian Jing’s car parked at the usual spot.
Before she could blush, Zhong Xin opened the car door and got out. “Ms. Shen, President Lian still has some matters to settle. He sent me to bring you to the banquet first.”
Shen Yin nodded and got into the car. She said hesitantly, “Let’s go home first. I haven’t changed into my gown.”
Zhong Xin was stunned for a moment before he suddenly smiled brightly and instructed the chauffeur to drive back to the Lian residence.
Shen Yin stared at the back of his head in confusion, unable to figure out what she had said to make him smile like this.
Zhong Xin was sincerely happy for his President. His efforts during this period had not been in vain. When Miss Shen had said “go home” without hesitation, he knew that their relationship must have progressed rapidly.
They had just arrived at the Lian residence when Shen Nian appeared, wearing a bespoke suit. Like a miniature gentleman, he gave Shen Yin a gallant bow and gestured for her to enter the house.
Shen Yin looked at his attire curiously. Shen Nian had inherited the best of herself and Lian Jing. Even though he was still young, she could already see how debonair he would be in the future.
When she entered the living room, Shen Yin realized that Grandpa Lian had not left yet and there were a few fashionably-dressed women standing in the room. When they saw her, they immediately smiled. “Miss Shen, we’re the professional makeup and styling team that Young Master has hired to help you dress. We guarantee you’ll be the focus of the entire banquet tonight.”
Shen Yin looked at Shen Nian in shock. The latter gave her a thumbs-up. Then, they pushed her into an empty room. The makeup artists worked together and they were done in less than half an hour.
Shen Yin walked out of the room. Her already beautiful face was even more dazzling after the makeup artists were done. She was so beautiful that even the young Shen Nian kept looking at her. He could not help but marvel at her beauty.
