[Hated Hero, Taking a Break]

The academy’s summer vacation was two weeks long.

It was half as long as the summer vacation of the typical school in my former world.

But in exchange, there was a vacation of the same length for each season, so there wasn’t much difference in total.

But being nobles, we had lots of things to do during vacations.

The Alberses, for instance, had ceremonies and events of the sort to hold. Furthermore, since I’d become a Hero after receiving the Holy Sword, I was especially in high demand this year.

…It was good and all, but there was one thing that upset me, and that was the slightly unpleasant information I’d heard from Marina.

Apparently, some people were plotting to break off my engagement with Tayte.

The Alberses and Ehrenbergs had a favorable relationship, to say the least.

Me and Tayte aside, our fathers hit it off well too, and their ties had been deepening with the increase of cooperation between their territories.

But to be honest, the gap between the two houses was ridiculously large.

According to Marina, my father had at first been aiming for the foundation that the Ehrenbergs had built being a house that had supported the kingdom since its founding, but he had completely thrown that plan out of the window now as he had taken a great liking to Tayte’s father as a person.

But some people found it disagreeable.

They were the lot who were blinded by the name of Albers and the status of being ‘Hero’s wife’s family’. And it could be said that these people were one of the factors that greatly derailed Barrett’s life in the original storyline.

Originally, Barrett was already quite a bastard even before being chosen by the Holy Sword, but after the fact, many nobles began to set their sight on his status to gain fame. They sucked up and offered to him their daughters to be his wives.

This was one of the reasons why Barrett became the way he was.

…Well, at the end of the day, all that was about the original Barrett.

I’m different from him.

Even if they thrust the most beautiful girl in front of me, to betray Tayte—

“—is a big no-no for me.”

“? What is?”

“Mm? Ah, it’s nothing. Anyway, let’s head to that side of the beach next.”

“Yes♪.”

I unintentionally said my thought out loud and got Tayte questioning me, but I was able to use my quick wits to deceive her. Furthermore, I was able to demonstrate a fine play of naturally directing the conversation to our date plan in the afternoon.

We were now at a small restaurant by the beach.

Relaxing while having lunch.

The morning had passed with the monster hiding in the sea we were supposed to subjugate never even showing its shadow.

Mr. Walter had headed to the town mayor to discuss it, and the three of us were waiting for the result.

“I must say, it sure is a waste.”

Jarvis muttered out of nowhere.

“What is?”

“Here the sea is beautiful, the food they serve is delicious, big inns are just a few minute-walk from the beach—it’s not an exaggeration to say that this is the best place for vacation. There originally should be many tourists enjoying their summer here, yet now there’s not even a single one around… it’s a waste.”

“Oh… certainly.”

It was common to see places put focus on their tourism industry.

This town was one of them.

It was easy to lose track of time here, and I could feel that the whole town was doing its best to entertain its guests, but it was a different story if you had to stake your life.

“For the sake of the townspeople, we have to defeat the monsters as soon as possible, right?”

While enjoying swimming in the sea, it looked like Tayte had been thinking about them all this time. She really is a good girl, isn’t she?

“Then, let’s wrap up our meal and search around,” I said.

“Ah, on that side of the beach you mentioned earlier?” Tayte asked.

“Yup.”

“…Then, I’m coming with you. The more people there are, the safer it will be. You wouldn’t mind, right?”

“Y-yeah.”

I wondered if Jarvis was mad… I felt tremendous pressure when she asked, “You wouldn’t mind, right?”

But something like this had happened quite a few times recently, and whenever I asked her, “Are you mad?” she would always reply, “I’m not,” with a clearly angry tone.

Well, even if she was dressed like a man, she was a girl inside.

It was normal for girls to have periods when they were easily provoked.

Tayte, who was also a girl, was more suitable to follow up on her regarding such matters than me, who was a guy. Luckily, the two seemed to be on good terms.

Well then, let’s resume our beach dat—I mean, our search for the monster, shall we?
