Zoey sat outside her door, patiently waiting for someone from The Council to dare come to her home. Just like she thought, she was now a wanted criminal in this branch of the OM. Alexander and Lindsay told her that they were interrogated at those homes about their relationship with her and if they could provide any information about her. Alexander proudly told her that he wouldn’t sell out his friend. Lindsay said she only spoke about what a good magjistar she was.

Outside of those two, they had no further methods to gain information about her. They were really her only two friends in the magji world. Caroline was still a work in progress but one she felt good about. Zoey didn’t know if the OM had contacts with monks, but Caroline wouldn’t have anything to share about her with them anyway. They barely knew each other.

The only thing they could do now was show up at her home. So, Zoey waited. She waited day after day, sitting on the porch, waiting for The Council’s magjistars to show up at her home. But all in all, it was pointless. Zoey couldn’t confine her family in the house for days on end. She herself couldn’t skip so many days of school either. Her mom and dad needed to work. Everett needed to be at school.

Convincing her family that this was for their safety didn’t seem to help either. It wasn’t like they didn’t believe her. Her dad supported her in helping convince her mom, but at the same time, he made her realize something. How long were they going to be in hiding? Could she protect them forever? Would they not try and capture her once the attack was over?

Zoey realized her actions were pretty fucking useless, thanks to her dad. Thanks to his words, Zoey had the opportunity to use all of her brain power to think of a plan. It wasn’t in her nature to be such a scaredy bitch. If the OM wanted her so badly, why didn’t she let them have her?

She’ll be jailed somewhere in the magji world awaiting her trial or whatever. If things go to plan, the daemons will attack during her jailing. Zoey will break out, save lives, kill daemons, and beat the shit out of The Council for making her use her brain this damn hard. But just to check if this plan was sound enough, she sent a message to Prometheus to check it for mistakes.

He didn’t hold back with how stupid the plan was. The plan she spent several minutes thinking of to the best of her ability was filled with so many problems he questioned how she thought it would ever work. Prometheus asked her has she rested. Has she been eating well, drinking well, and sleeping well? Zoey felt so embarrassed and pissed. She didn’t respond back.

“I’ll have my men protect your family while you’re gone. Try not to cause a massacre on both sides.” Prometheus told her. Zoey stood up from her porch as she went to go get her magji stuff.

“A friend will make sure you guys are safe while you are out,” Zoey told her family.

“Well, that’s good.” Bruce smiled.

“Where are you going?” Everett asked.

“To make sure this doesn’t happen again,” Zoey responded.

“What does that mean?” Alicia stood in front of Zoey, preventing her from going upstairs.

“I’m going to go do my job.” Zoey gently but firmly pushed her mother to the side as she walked past her.

Zoey purposely didn’t explain which job she was going to do. As far as her family knew, she fought monsters for a living. They didn’t need to know there were more monsters in this world than the daemonic kind. She’ll probably tell them later once everything was all solved and dealt with.

“Bruce! You know she’s about to do something dangerous! Why aren’t you helping me stop her?!” Alicia looked at her husband.

“Zoey is an adult who can make her own decisions. We may be her parents, but that doesn’t mean we can force her to do what we want her to do.” Bruce explained.

“That’s exactly what that means! If we don’t do it, she’s going to go get herself hurt!”

“That’s part of her job, Alicia. Think of the parents of police officers. They know their child is doing a dangerous job, but they don’t try to stop them from being a police officer, right?” Bruce tried to reason with her.

Everett kept quiet with Tink on his shoulder. He was fine with staying home, but his girlfriend was upset about him not coming to school. All the time he wanted for streaming, accepting donations, and training without schoolwork dragging him down. It was paradise, but he did miss her. Her parents didn’t want her coming over to his house, and his mom didn’t want him going over to her house because she didn’t know her parents. The only time they could see each other was during school. Someone from her family picked her up every day at school, so they couldn’t hang out when school ended, either. They were pretty strict for some reason.

“I don’t know when I’ll be back. Try to tell my school I'm sick or something.” Zoey walked out the door with her boxing gloves wrapped around her neck.

“Bye, Zoey!” Tink waved goodbye as they sat on Everett’s shoulder.

“Bye, Tink.” Zoey closed the door.

Tink was extra protection for her family in case Prometheus somehow wasn’t enough. By going in alone and by herself, Zoey was confident in handling anything that came her way. No one to protect. No one to get in her way. Just a good old-fashioned brawl if things went to shit. Zoey remembered Victor telling her that there weren’t any magji tools that could prevent someone from using their magji. Only knocking them unconscious could do it. So, Zoey wasn’t worried about being captured.

“Alright, Council. Let’s fuck some shit up.” Inner Zoey grinned.
