Chapter 21: Water fairy

“Don’t be nervous.”
After saying that, Yan Lang seemed to realize that his words had been somewhat inappropriate and tried to explain: “It wasn’t an order, I am just asking for your opinion.”
Qiao Dai seemed a little startled and he waited patiently for her answer. For a moment, all gazes converged towards Qiao Dai, from all directions, but the girl seemed unaware of it. She blinked her eyes quickly and stared at Yan Lang: “Of course I can! Can I shoot there?”
As she said, she raised her hand and pointed at the sea with excitement. Her eyes were sparkling and she looked a little impatient; she really wanted to go in the water.

Looking at her, everybody was taken aback, particularly the other players. They all opened wide their eyes in surprise and started whispering. Was Qiao Dai going to challenge underwater photography?
Although they were not familiar with Qiao Dai, when the other contestants heard Qiao Dai would try, they could not help but feel respect rise in their heart and admire her courage. If their group had a teammate like Qiao Dai, then surely they would be able to shine even more, wouldn’t they? With that in mind, one of the players reminded: “Qiao Dai, although this pool is artificial, it is still very deep and may be a bit dangerous.” She also had wanted to try when she had started shooting, but when she had gone to the water’s edge, she had instantly given up the idea.
Even though the waters were only artificial, in order to create an ocean feeling, it had been built extremely wide; added to the waves, it looked like the real sea at a glance. But it was also a water performance venue and there were many hidden props and bridges that could be raised and lowered freely under the surface. When dancers would perform, it would look as if they were stepping on water.
After listening to the staff’s introduction, they had all gone to try the depth, and the players who had entertained the idea of shooting underwater had preferred to stay on the edge instead.

When Qiao Dai heard the kind advice, she nodded and said: “It’s okay, I swim very well!”
After all, sea otters were lifelong professional marine athletes. In terms of swimming, Qiao Dai was very confident. Sea otters might have looked a little chubby, they were very agile! If they could not swim in this water, who could?
“Do you really want to shoot there?”
Yan Lang seemed a little surprised but his expression soon returned to normal. He cast a look at Qiao Dai full of admiration and said in a low voice: “Can you do it?”
He wasn’t asking with any malice, he had originally thought of bringing Qiao Dai to a nearby outdoor pool instead. Who would have thought she would offer to try in these waters instead? This was of course the best outcome; after all, the Deep Blue Star Sea was made of artificial waters where water performances would be held. For publicity purposes, the investors naturally hoped to show what made this attraction so special as well as possible.
“I can!”
Qiao Dai nodded vigorously. She had wanted to play in a bigger pool and when she had seen the huge water, her eyes had brightened. It must be very comfortable to sleep there, no?
She glanced at the water curtain area not far away, full of yearning, but soon took away her gaze; she was here today to take beautiful photos and could not lose the face of the little sea otter!
Listening to her answer, Yan Lang did not add anything else but was lost in thought for a moment. He beckoned to the staff and said: “You, go get the lead dancer’s costume.”
As soon as they heard the order, the expression of the surrounding staff changed and the players were very confused, wondering what was happening.
The costume of the lead dancer was very expensive, especially the hair chain adorned with large diamonds. The diamond in the center was polished into a drop and accurately named Tear of the Mermaid. It was exceptional and gorgeous, and hearing that Director Yan would lend it to an ordinary trainee, their surprise was not even concealed. It seemed that he really had high hopes for this girl. The staff immediately started to look at Qiao Dai with a little admiration. After all, Yan Lang was well-known and strict, being recognized by him was a privilege.

“Get ready to start underwater filming.”
Director Yan said a few more words to his subordinates and the on-site staff suddenly became busy. Someone went to prepare diving props for the photographer, someone began to adjust the lighting of the waters, and Qiao Dai was taken back to the dressing room. It took a while for everything to get ready and for Qiao Dai to return to the shooting scene.

The players and the staff stayed on the shore, all staring at the screen in front of them. The screen was directly connected to the camera lens, which allowed them to see the whole process of underwater shooting clearly.
The cameraman was ready and the underwater world appeared on the screen, with its unique light and shadow, both soft and beautiful. The picture in the lens looked as if it was covered with a filter and everything looked mysterious.
Yan Lang sat in his chair and stared at the screen too.

With a sound, many bubbles of various sizes floated in the water and Qiao Dai fell in with a light figure. Her skirt went up and down in the waves, hovering around her. Her makeup had not changed much, but there was an extra silver hair chain on her head. The long silver tassels were gently hanging on the side of her face, shaking slightly and shining brightly, like fallen stars. She looked like a fairy from the deepest or most distant part of the ocean.
The people on the shore saw this scene and subconsciously held their breath.

Qiao Dai tried to move her body and the familiar feeling made her feel she had become extraordinarily light. She looked up in the direction of the photographer, changed her movements agility in the water, and sat out of thin air. She looked like she was on a chair, lazy and yawning.
The photographer had never seen a model that could control her body so perfectly in the water. He immediately grabbed his camera and started shooting. Every action in the water was more laborious than on dry land; many professional models still had issues mastering the method of applying force in the water after training. The difficulty of these seemingly simple moves was far beyond imagination.

There was a small exclamation among the watching crowd; the scene in front of them looked straight out of a movie, where the reality was mixed with some beautiful fantasy. They were all wondering if Qiao Dai was really sitting on a transparent chair, how else could she make such movements? But before anyone could even start looking for any props, Qiao Dai had already changed position.
She stood up slightly in the water, squinted her eyes, and gently exhaled. The oxygen in her mouth turned into round bubbles and everyone suddenly widened their eyes, all scared Qiao Dai was about to choke on water. Yan Lang also frowned and sat up straight, ready to call the lifeguard to save her. But the next second, an unbelievable picture appeared—
Qiao Dai slowly stretched out her slender fingers, curiously poking the air bubbles floating around her. She looked like a mermaid from the deep sea, cheerfully having fun in the water, her hair floating around her and her face even more delicate in the shadow of the water.
Her eyes were full of playfulness and she made another bubble as if she found it funny; the people of the scene laughed but were still afraid she would drown. They kept staring at the screen and Qiao Dai’s relaxed expression gradually relieved them.
But they couldn’t help but wonder… was Qiao Dai really a water fairy? This incredible thought firmly rooted in everyone’s mind. Everybody was stuck to the screen, not wanting to look away for even a second, until the staff reminded the thirty shots had been taken.

After every player returned to their senses, they were surprised to find out that only ten minutes had passed. Thirty shots in ten minutes? The girls all looked at each other, speechless. Only the best models could quickly get into shooting state; it was not difficult for them to take dozens or even hundreds of shots in a few minutes, but for ordinary people, it was far from easy. Even a player with a rich modeling experience like Lai You had spent several minutes on dry land for ten shots; Qiao Dai had completed her own thirty photos in ten minutes, including the time she spent going back to the surface to breathe.
Today’s event was not over but the players already knew the outcome. As soon as they closed their eyes, they would only see Qiao Dai’s lively and light figure in the water, unable to forget about it. The winner of the ocean group had appeared.
