Chapter 32: Result announcement

“I don’t have anything else to say.”
Lu Cong immediately agreed with Jiang Fengchi and so did the other instructors. Even Song Anni, who was the kindest, shook her head.
Every time Lai You listened to a mentor’s evaluation, her heart sank even more. Once they all had refused to promote any of them, her face was as ugly as it could be. The almost threatening words from her agent resonated in her head and she understood that with this mess, she had no room for recovery left. The only thing she could hope for was the popularity vote later but… Lai You took a deep breath and her heart skipped a beat; she thought about her stage, who would like such a performance? Obviously nobody.

[There are so many promotion cards left… Lai You really humiliated Galaxy!]
[Galaxy seems to be really in trouble this year. Let’s see if Lai You can be saved by popularity.]
[Seems unlikely. If Galaxy fans need to save someone, won’t they go support Ruan Tao instead? Do they even care about the others?]

After all the teams were done, the last performance was the theme song of <Pick Eleven>, which was danced by all the players. Except for Ruan Tao, a hundred girls stood on the stage together.
Under the colorful lights, they sang in unison, their sweet singing voice transmitted to the ears of every viewer through their microphone. Watching them working hard, the atmosphere on the scene rose again.
[Aaah, the girls rush!]
[The crystal throne is waiting for you ahead!]

Many contestants were shedding tears by the end of the song and they all closed the performance perfectly.
Next was the highly anticipated popularity voting session. After the audience left, the players returned to the recording venue to wait for the results, which would decide whether they would continue the adventure or get eliminated. The scoring system combined both on-site and online voters and viewers could get a vote for every thirty minutes watched in the live broadcast room. Each account could get up to five votes, which guaranteed fairness.
When the staff rushed to count the votes of the players, the girls were also waiting where they had had their initial rating. They were sitting under the crystal stairs and the thirty seats of Class F had been removed. The other chairs were still vacant, waiting for their owners.
A few contestants had somehow borrowed phones from the staff and were staring at the ever-changing voting numbers on the official website, muttering incessantly. Although they were not allowed to use communication devices during the competition, the public performance was over and the staff understood they were still young girls; they were inevitably anxious and excited and the official recording had not yet started. They decided to close their eyes and not stop them.

“Xiaoxiao! You guys and Daidai are on the hot search!”
Some girls shouted at Lin Xiaoxiao and her teammates and handed them the phone with happiness, pointing at the screen: “Here, look, you’re all there!”
Someone in the audience had taken a picture of Qiao Dai holding her loudspeakers and calling Lin Xiaoxiao’s name, and another one of them hugging each other in tears. Those two images had aroused the netizens’ curiosity and emotions and they had all remembered the names of the four girls who had braved today’s stage.
“Are you guys still looking at the hot search? Hurry and look at the voting page, this data jumps too fast, I have to take a break.”
Another player who was safe from elimination didn’t need to stare at the rising data. She was safe in the middle, entering Class A or leaving the competition had nothing to do with her at this point, and she handed her phone to the other girls.
“The tickets are moving so fast! I think my brain hurts!”
The contestant who got the phone looked at the numbers and felt dizzy for a second before tentatively counting: “One, ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand… it’s really scary!”
She couldn’t help sticking out her tongue, finding out that the most intense competition was at the top and the bottom. In order to help them either to get the first place or avoid elimination, the data went up like crazy and left everybody speechless.

Shi Qing had also borrowed a phone from the staff and was currently staring at the screen nervously with Lu Ying. Song Yiqi was sitting aside and braiding Qiao Dai’s hair, who didn’t dare to move, and Luan Zhen was looking at the two of them. After a while, Shi Qing noticed something and exclaimed: “How come Ruan Tao’s votes are so high?”
The others also saw it; among all of them, only Ruan Tao had not participated in the first public performance yet was occupying first place in today’s vote, leaving the rest of them far behind.
“This…”
The girls looked at each other with subtle expressions, trying to say something. But in the end, they chose to remain quiet and swallowed back the words that had barely reached their lips.

But in major communities and forums, netizens were not as silent.
[??? No, how can Ruan Tao get so many votes?]
[She has a large fan base, whether she goes on stage or not, they will vote for her.]
[It must be a pity vote too. She worked so hard but wasn’t able to perform, it’s distressing to see.]
[Yes, yes, and she didn’t get a promotion card from a mentor because of that. If she loses in the popularity vote, she will be eliminated.]
Many news about her accident had spread on the Internet, dramatizing the whole incident. There was a video of her crying and many passersby voted for her and Ruan Tao became the first in the popularity vote because of this.
Looking at this situation, fans of Qiao Dai, Luan Zhen, or Song Yiqi, who all had performed well, were not happy. How could someone who had not appeared take first place? The Internet was in an uproar and netizens were quarreling everywhere. Fortunately, the voting poll was only open for one hour, and the staff quickly calculated the results as everyone focused on the upcoming announcement.

The camera pointed at the girls on the scene and the four mentors walked out slowly, holding the promotion list in their hands. In an instant, the atmosphere became anxious again and the players instinctively held their breath, waiting for the instructors to announce the results. The names were announced starting from the 71st rank. Whenever a mentor read one, the huge LED screen behind them would display the specific numbers, including the on-site voting and the online one.
“32nd place, Lin Xiaoxiao.”
When they announced her name, all the girls applauded. Although she had dropped from Class B to Class C, despite their messy situation her rank was unexpectedly good. Lin Xiaoxiao had prepared herself to fall to Class D or even be eliminated and burst into tears when she heard the result. She accepted her new ranking card with her name written on it from the tutors with joy, and headed to the crystal stairs step by step. But before walking up, she ran to Qiao Dai and Lu Ying and hugged them, thanking them for everything they had done. Without the two girls, Lin Xiaoxiao’s name would never have been remembered by the audience tonight, let alone voted for. They were the ones who had pulled her back from the edge of elimination.
Her teammates had not gotten a ranking as good as Liao Xiaoxiao’s but no one had been eliminated. This was all thanks to Jiang Fengchi and the people who had supported them on the spot; they could continue the competition and were full of gratitude.

As the seats left became less and less, the players who had not been named yet became more and more nervous. They didn’t dare to breathe nor blink, fearing they would miss their cue.
“Now it is time to announce the players who will enter Class A tonight.”
“11th place, Lu Ying.”
The moment she heard her name, Lu Ying was startled. She didn’t believe her ears and when the mentor repeated it, she took a gentle breath before getting her ranking card and walking up the stairs. She really couldn’t believe it was true.
Even within Galaxy, she belonged to the mediocre trainees and was always ordered around by Lai You to act as a stepping stone for the others. But now she had exceeded her previous teammates and successfully entered Class A, this was really too incredible. And the reason she could obtain such results today was definitely thanks to Qiao Dai. Recalling their practice time, Lu Ying realized she had improved so much without even realizing it. Was it the strength of her teammates?
The rest of the girls were also amazed by this ranking. They looked at Lu Ying both with surprise and envy, perfectly aware of her former level. She had not been one of the most talented players but in only such a period of time, she had made gigantic progress. Everyone could guess who had helped and the way they looked at Qiao Dai changed. If they could become her teammates, could they also become better so fast?

Qiao Dai, who was in the center of attention once more, didn’t notice. It was early in the morning and the temperature inside the venue was a bit low; Qiao Dai put her cold hands on her face and the people looking at her couldn’t help but smile.
The instructors continued to read the names of the Class A players, which was pretty accurate with the contestants’ guesses; most of them were players who had performed particularly well tonight.
“4th place, Song Yiqi.”
Song Yiqi naturally made a comeback from Class F. She walked back to the position that originally belonged to her with confidence, like a queen returning triumphantly to her throne.

The only remaining popular players were Qiao Dai, Luan Zhen and Ruan Tao; there was no doubt they would take the three last seats but the specific ranking was still unknown. Thinking of the online voting, the girls guessed Ruan Tao would get first place. They couldn’t help but show some sympathy when they looked at Qiao Dai and Luan Zhen; after experiencing the first public performance together, it was inevitable they would feel more kind towards them. Between those who had sweated on stage and Ruan Tao, they more or less felt dissatisfied with someone who had been absent for the whole performance. Did that mean that no matter how hard they worked, they were destined to never be able to beat her?

“3rd place, Luan Zhen.”
Next was the moment to witness the birth of the first public performance’s champion. Although everybody knew in their hearts the result, they were still looking forward to a miracle at this instant. They all hoped for a more deserved and inspiring ending.
“2nd place, Ruan Tao.”
“1st place—” The mentor couldn’t help but pause, a hint of surprise and praise flashing in his eyes: “Qiao Dai!”
As soon as his voice fell, the huge screen showed her data. When everyone looked at the numbers, they stared in shock.
There were 1000 people in the audience and each spectator had three chances to vote. However, each vote couldn’t be the same and a player could get 1000 votes at most. Behind Qiao Dai’s name, the on-site number clearly indicated 923 votes; among the audience who had watched Qiao Dai’s performance live, almost all of them had chosen to vote for her.
