Su Ying snapped her fingers, and the mercenaries behind her howled in pain.
The two mercenaries were so scared that their faces turned as white as paper.
“Damn rascals! Quick… quickly… spit it out now! Are you trying to kill us!” Number One was screaming in pain on the ground.
Number Eight and Number Nine were so terrified that all the color had drained from their faces. “Mistress, please spare us. We… we went to Dust and Gust… Dust and Gust Restaurant. When we were felling trees in the mountain, a scholar told us that this restaurant provides people with free meat. We were too hungry and couldn’t contain ourselves anymore, so we went to look for this restaurant.”
“What kind of restaurant is this? Are they really providing free meat to people?”
“Yes… yes… they do. When we went to the Dust and Gust Restaurant and told them we’d never been there before, someone brought us a big bowl of meat. They… they didn’t charge us any money.”
A trace of darkness flashed across Su Ying’s almond-shaped eyes. “Is there really such a good deal? Then I’ll have to go and see for myself.” She snapped her fingers, and the wailing behind her stopped instantly.
Number Eight and Number Nine knelt on the ground in numbed shock.
The corner of Su Ying’s lips curled up, but there wasn’t any trace of a smile in her eyes. “It’s just a bite of meat. Look at how scared you two are. Get up.”
The two of them watched Su Ying’s figure disappear into the distance. They couldn’t believe it. Was she letting them off like that?
Before the two of them could come back to their senses, they were punched to the ground by Number One, who had gotten up from the ground.
“Dumb asses. You guys are so greedy that you landed all of us in trouble. If you do it again, I’ll skin you two alive!”
Not surprisingly, the two of them begged for mercy repeatedly, saying that they wouldn’t dare to do it again.
Su Ying returned to the small stool under the roof eaves and sat down. Xiao Jin saw her returning from her talk with the mercenaries and asked, “They wanted to run away?”
“They wouldn’t dare. They said that when they were felling trees in the mountains, they met a scholar who told them that there was a place in the base camp called the Dust and Gust Restaurant that provided free meat to people. They couldn’t resist it and sneaked off to that place.”
Xiao Jin frowned when he heard this. “It’s hard to even get a drink of water in this place. How can there be people who give away meat for free?”
Su Ying placed her hands behind her head and gently rocked the chair. Her voice was tinged with an eerie chilliness. “I’ll go and take a look tomorrow. I want to see who is this kind fellow.”
However, Xiao Jin said disapprovingly, “This might be a trap.”
Su Ying closed her eyes. “I’ll still go even if it’s the devil’s lair.”
“Then you take Zhao Neng along with you.”
“No. Don’t give me any extra burden. He might not be able to outrun those people.”
The “extra burden” Zhao Neng happened to be walking over but he pretended not to hear anything…
At nightfall, Tiger Base fell into a sea of silence.
The alpha wolf leader was dozing off on the ground. Just as he was about to go back to sleep, he saw two mercenaries stand up from the ground.
The alpha wolf leader snorted and ignored them. To its surprise, the two mercenaries walked towards the wolf pack and even stepped on the alpha wolf leader’s tail.
Howl! Roar! The alpha wolf leader jumped up in pain and howled before baring its teeth at the two men warily.
However, the two of them did not seem to notice the wolves. They simply walked right past them.
Howl! The alpha wolf leader saw them walking towards the main house. It gave a low growl and ran over to bite Number Eight’s pant legs.
When Number Eight’s leg was restrained, he grabbed the sickle on the ground and slashed at the alpha wolf leader.
The alpha wolf leader’s green eyes flickered and it dodged easily with a low growl.
Su Ying, who was sitting on the roof, saw everything.
She flipped over and leaped down from the building. When she came up to the two mercenaries, she found that their eyes were open but their pupils were dilated. They were obviously not in control of their own consciousness.
Su Ying didn’t touch them. She simply wanted to see what they were up to.
The two of them walked around the main house as if they were checking something. Then, they slowly walked to the well.
Number Eight took out a brown paper packet and opened it. Just as he was about to pour the powder inside the packet into the well, Su Ying snapped her fingers.
The two of them convulsed violently and fell to the ground in anguish.
“Argh… Oh oh oh… It hurts! Oh, it hurts so much!”
The excruciating pain completely roused the two of them from their trance.
