78 Was She That Scared?
Bai Qi stretched out his body once he had finished checking his report. When he looked up again, he was surprised to see that it was already late.
He shut down his laptop and decided to stop by the nurse’s station before he returned for a nap.
The corridor was dimly lit. Seeing that there was a figure standing in the middle of the corridor made him halt. It took him a while to realize that it was a patient.
He narrowed his eyes to get a closer look.’
Judging from her side profile, Bai Qi was sure that the person in front of him was someone he knew.
“Zhang Li Xue?”
The person turned to look at him.
When their gazes met, Bai Qi could notice a light lit up in the woman’s eyes. “Doctor Bai.”
“You... what are you doing here?” Bai Qi looked around and saw that they were not far away from her room. “Aren’t you supposed to be resting?” A thought came to his mind and his brow furrowed. “Are you feeling uncomfortable?”

Zhang Li Xue giggled. “Doctor Bai, you’re asking too many questions. You sounded like my mother.”

Bai Qi pursed his lips. Zhang Li Xue’s smile was infectious. Soon, Bai Qi found that he was smiling as well.
“Well, I can’t sleep.” Zhang Li Xue touched her stomach. “I’m too hungry and I couldn’t find anything to eat. My mother is asleep and I didn’t want to wake her up. I thought that I could find some snack vending machine or something.”
“There’s no vending machine on this floor. If you want to get something, you have to go to the convenience store downstairs.”
Zhang Li Xue could not hide her disappointment.
She did not want to go too far. Her mother would worry when she found that she has been missing.
But, she really could not fall asleep like this. She hadn’t eaten anything for lunch and then, she was taken to the hospital for surgery.
When she woke up, her mother offered her some food to eat. However, Zhang Li Xue was not hungry and she had let her mother finish the food instead. After talking to her mother for a while, she went back to sleep.
But a while ago, her empty stomach woke her up. Until she fills it up with food, she would not be able to sleep.
What was she supposed to do now?
Should she wake up her mother and tell her that she’s hungry.
“Are you... really hungry?” Bai Qi asked. He saw the disappointed look on her face and thought that this little fairy was too pitiful.
Zhang Li Xue nodded. She was so hungry that she could eat a whole chicken.
“Then, wait for me a while,” Bai Qi said. “I think, I have something that you can eat in my office. It might not be that much, but it will help you to pad your tummy.”
Zhang Li Xu stared at the young doctor as if she was looking at her savior. She watched as Bai Qi turned around to leave and gasped. Her hand instinctively tugged at his sleeve to stop him.
“What’s wrong?” Bai Qi tilted his head to one side.
“That...” Zhang Li Xue looked around and cough. “Can I come with you?”
Bai Qi was surprised by her request.
Zhang Li Xue leaned over and spoke in a low voice. “How should I say this... The hospital seemed like a scary place at night. Especially when you’re alone. I don’t want to wait here alone.”
