Chapter 197 - "Lu Jue." Ning Zhi called out in the dark. (3)

Ning Zhi was completely stunned. She thought she could travel back in time to safe Lu Jue’s grandmother. That the outcome would be different.

Ning Zhi found that fact that she came to the time after the passing of Lu Jue’s grandmother difficult to accept.

“It’s already 8 o’clock and the Young Master hadn’t come downstairs for dinner yet,” said one of the servants.

“The butler told us to take good care of the Young Master before he left. You should bring his dinner upstairs to him.”

“Dinner is already cold. Let me reheat it first.”

Having said that, the servant brought the food back to the kitchen.

Ning Zhi recollected herself. Did they just say that Lu Jue was upstairs? She had checked the entire second floor and Lu Jue was not inside his room.

Ning Zhi’s eyes dimmed. She went back upstairs to look for Lu Jue again.

Ning Zhi was still not able to locate Lu Jue after a long while. She was getting a little worried. Obviously, Lu Jue was home somewhere.

Suddenly, Ning Zhi recalled Mother Lu telling her a while back that the day that Lu Jue’s grandmother had passed away, Lu Jue was lost inside their house. One of the servants finally located him in a remote corner in the garden after a long while.

Ning Zhi quickly turned and headed downstairs. She ran into the rain and toward the back yard.

It was dark at night and, with the pouring rain, it was almost impossible to see the path.

The light in the garden was broken and hadn’t been fixed yet. It was pitch black around and there was nothing but the noisy rain.

Everything in front of Ning Zhi was blurred by the rain.

The backyard was covered by dried, fallen leaves. Stepping through the rain, Ning Zhi headed into the dark garden and toward the fake rocks.

“Lu Jue.” Her voice was drowned by the rain.

She continued to walk into the darkness.

Walking around the fake boulder, Ning Zhi could see Lu Jue squatting there in one corner, his head lowered and he looked fragile.

“Lu Jue.”

Lu Jue was drenched from the rain.

The tall young man curled up in a corner like a puppy that had been abandoned. He was pitiful and in distress.

Ning Zhi walked toward him and rain went right through her and beat down on Lu Jue. Recalling what the servants were talking about, Ning Zhi felt her heart ached.

Lu Jue was sick. This was not his fault.

The passing of the grandmother in and of itself was sad. One should not look at it like any other incident.

Nobody wished to see it happen.

Right now, Lu Jue was squatting in the corner in the rain, as though he was punishing himself.

Ning Zhi’s throat was dry. She squatted down and placed her hand over Lu Jue’s.

“Lu Jue.” She felt cold.

“The rain is very heavy. Come back into the house with me?”

The young man in red looked up and rain rolled down the side of his cheek. Rain was over his brows, the tip of his nose, and even his long eyelashes. He looked at her quietly.

His face was pale and even his lips had no color to them. N had no idea when Lu Jue had gone out or how long he had been sitting in the rain.

His pitch-black eyes were wet from the rain and he looked at her blanked.

Ning Zhi felt that she had been stabbed in her heart. The pain was almost unbearable.

“It isn’t your fault.” Ning Zhi felt that Lu Jue had heard some mean words. He may not have wanted that to happen but he still might have caught a little bit here and there.

He wasn’t a fool. He, too, had emotions. His illness, however, severed his ties with others and he was locked in a different world.

“You will get sick if you keep sitting in the rain. C’mon back with me.” Ning Zhi held his hand tightly. His fingers were ice cold.

Lu Jue lowered his head and was reluctant to move.

He was tall and he was a boy. Ning Zhi wasn’t all that strong. Had he really been reluctant, Ning Zhi would not have been able to move him.
