Chapter 28: SHIELD?

Agent Phil Coulson stood in discipline in front of a slick, black Chevy Suburban that was parked in front of six more cars of the same brand. He was wearing his classic black suit and had a shade over his eyes.

Currently, under the moonlight, he was waiting for Enrique Nova outside the villa that he had rented, according to a SHIELD report.

According to Director Fury, Enrique Nova was said not to be contacted until necessary information on him was gathered. However, that rule needed to be broken because of this incident of a stray super-powered individual attacking a High School who was later defeated by “Supernova”. SHIELD wanted to take the blue-skinned criminal into custody, so they had no choice but to try and contact Enrique.

Today, Agent Coulson’s mission was to take the publicly dubbed “Electro” away from Supernova and to also engage in a conversation with him in the hope to learn more about himself.

As Agent Coulson waited, he finally noticed a white something flying towards him from the sky. He quickly realised it was Supernova himself, in flesh, with his sidekick and the villain on either arm.

Noticing Coulson too, the Superhero slowed down his flight and landed in front of the black cars that were parked in front of his house.

Agent Coulson smiled. “Good evening, Mr Nova.”

“It’s nighttime, Mr Coulson. Regardless, how can I help you today?” said Supernova, making Coulson pause in his spot while he casually dropped his sidekick to her feet.

Agent Phil Coulson frowned. How did this man know his name?

“Ah. Sir, have we met before?”

“If it’s about your name, I saw it from your ID card.” explained the Superhero, as if he could read Coulson’s mind.

However, Coulson’s ID card was inside his inner breast pocket. It wasn’t out in the open.

‘...So X-ray vision, too?’ Coulson thought. ‘Noted.’

“...Aha, Mr Nova. I should have expected that.” Phil said with a smile.

Enrique held back a smile. It wasn’t a bad idea to feed them false information. It was both fun to watch their reaction, and also it would just make him appear that more dangerous. Enrique would rather come off as a dangerous guy than a weak and simply lucky one.

“As for your question, Mr Nova,” Coulson continued, unaware that he was just trolled. “You can help me by allowing me to deliver this criminal to where he belongs. I can assure you going to the police station and putting him in jail would be far less effective for this particular criminal compared to if you let us handle it.”

“By ‘us’ you mean…?”

“Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division. Otherwise SHIELD, for short.” Coulson explained. “We are an extra-government organisation that deals with unusual situations that the world faces.”

“Aha, SHIElD. I heard about you guys.” Enrique said, expressing as if a bulb went in his head. “Alright. Here you go, take him.”

Coulson seemed a bit surprised. Perhaps he didn’t expect Enrique to just reach out a hand to hand over Electro? But really, Enrique had no real reason to keep Electro to himself at this point. It was very bothersome instead. After all, the moment this guy would wake up he would start wreaking havoc. Enrique was strong enough to beat him up again, but not strong enough to control him for good.

So, it was better to just give him up.

“For a price, of course.” Enrique pulled his hand back right when two agents, wearing rubber gloves, were about to grab Electro. “Send me 500k in my bank account. I am sure a free electricity factory would pay more than that.”

“....” Coulson’s trained polite smile wavered a bit.

“What? I am a hero, sure, but that doesn’t mean I don’t need to eat or stuff. I actually need to eat roughly 10 times more than a normal person. It’s a cost for my powers. I need that money.”

Enrique spouted another lie, this time a piece of information that could be used as his weakness– if it was true news, which it wasn’t.

“Besides, you guys are government people, sucking some money off you is Karma.”

“....”

“Be quick. Otherwise I will think of just selling this guy to Stark. I am sure he will be fascinated by a living arc reactor.” said Enrique, taking a step back with a baffled Anna to give Coulson some private space.

“....”

Coulson, who stayed silent with an incredulous look in his eyes.

After around five minutes where Coulson went on his phone and talked, he regained his trained smile and approached Enrique.

“Sorry for the delay. Please check your email.” he said.

Enrique did exactly that after pulling out his phone from the pockets of his swiftly changed businessman suit.

“Is the amount right?” asked Coulson a while later.

“Just right.” nodded Enrique. “Though, to be fair, I didn’t expect you guys to actually do it. I was just joking about selling him to Stark. Rather, I would have handed him over to you in five or so minutes.”

He actually, really, would have. It wasn’t a lie.

Though Coulson kept a polite smile on his lips, he seemed more than a bit amused. However, Enrique wasn't sure if his words were the reason for his amusement or if it was the muffle curses coming from the earpiece that was tucked into Coulson’s right ear— the voice sounding distinctly similar to one Samuel L. Jackson.

“Anything else you need, by the way? This Superhero job is tiring, I wanna sleep already.” Enrique asked while he patted Anna’s head that was resting on his shoulder.

She was already dozing off. This incident was an emotional rollercoaster for her, so she seriously needed some sleep too.

“Nothing else, no.” Agent Coulson said with a shake of his head. “Thanks for doing… business with us, Mr Nova. SHIELD might contact you later on, to keep in touch. Goodnight and goodbye.”

With that said, Agent Phil Coulson entered his spy-car and drove off, followed by the five other cars just right after.

Anna rubbed her eyes as she watched the cars leave.

“You sure this won’t cause any trouble?”

“Not really. This organisation wouldn’t last that long, anyways. Let’s say a year and a half from this point onwards.”

Enrique let her know as she hugged him, muttering an apology for ‘getting him into possible trouble’ even though he really didn’t mind.

“Enough of this. Let’s go inside. Ava and Greer must be worried. I just hope they didn’t run off seeing these suspicious cars.” Enrique finished speaking with a kiss on her head.

Then, they both walked into their villa.
