Chapter 44.2. Hidden Interests In The Slums

-Masatoshi’s POV-

There was nothing there. The land was a neat mortar with a radius of about 100 meters. There was a flicker of ash, but there was still heat, smoke billowing out, and a feeling of heat. The ground was glassy, and a huge charred object sat in the center.

Something had gouged it out. No, Masatoshi heard that flames had gouged out the surrounding area. Moreover, the buildings around the crater were still standing.

The superheat of the moment passed. It must have reduced the land to ashes, even though it disappeared before the fire could spread. It is hard to imagine what kind of fire magic it was. Even in the original story, he has never read of such magic. No, is it a known magic that the novel’s description does not reveal?

In any case, there are no dead monsters. If the dungeon core gets destroyed, the monsters under the dungeon die. Therefore, there should be many dead monsters left in the dungeon, but there are none. No, it is probably just a huge charred corpse in the center. Perhaps it is the boss.

Its exoskeleton is melted, its head is crushed, and most of its legs are gone. But for Masatoshi looked vaguely familiar.

“Is that an empress ant?”

It feels like the monster from the original story. It looks like a giant ant carcass. In the original story, some monsters crawled out of the dungeon and wreaked havoc in the Imperial City. He thinks they appeared as if they were splitting a nest.

The empress ant emerged from a dungeon in a slum and went on a rampage with its subordinates. The protagonist should have been able to use the most powerful magic [Nova] there. He joined forces with the heroines, kept attacking, got everyone to share their mana, and could use the magic to make the slums disappear.

“That was a depressing turn of events. It was the worst description I’ve ever seen.”

The empress ant killed everyone in the slums. Masatoshi frowned, saying that the description of the event was eerie.

The ants dissolve humans in acid and turn them into meatballs while still alive. They use human flesh and bones to make anthills. Women and children were equally used as food and get eaten to pieces. The depiction of how the ants eat the people was so terrible that Masatoshi felt nauseous, even though it was a novel.

That story was worthy of the protagonist’s rise to power. The people of the slum get wiped out by the ants, the land becomes the protagonist’s, and he recruits new residents and acquires a new development area as a great aristocrat.

In the anime, they change the story to an original story. The story is about the protagonist who developed and ruled the land together with the people of the slum. There must have been a lot of problems with the storyline in which the protagonist gets the rest of the land after killing all the people in the slum. The Night of Magic had many terrible storylines.

In reality, it would be a disappointing development, Masatoshi thought. But he knew anyone couldn’t defeat the enemy except the protagonist.

“Infinite regenerative power and gushing royal guard ants. A hard exoskeleton, powerful magic, and over-powerful martial arts. There’s no way we can beat them. Many high-ranking mob characters have died, and hostile forces have succumbed. And for the protagonist, he was a boss who did nothing but good things, but that’s why the others should not have been able to defeat him…”

At that time, the protagonist’s name was becoming famous among the nobles, and the protagonist’s family was trying to compete with them, to show their power. They led their faction to attack and defeat him. A different monster, perhaps? Masatoshi doesn’t know because it’s charred black.

In the anime, they change it to a cheesy development where the protagonist defeats a hostile faction that interferes with land development with new magic.

Enraku goes to the side of the charred monster, intimidates the workers, and drives them away. A subordinate hurriedly hands the halberd to Enraku.

“This is my land. I don’t know what’s going on, it looks like something unfortunate happened, but this corpse belongs to me!”

The workers are frightened and run away from Enraku, who is furious and yells at them. In front of the strongest fire magician Enraku, ordinary people would not even think of fighting against him.

But on the contrary, if it were not for ordinary people, there would be those who would oppose him.

“I’m in trouble, Duke Aguni. We plan to keep the monster’s corpse as an important property.”

A middle-aged man in a suit approaches Enraku with a calm tone. Masatoshi was surprised that anyone would come to Enraku in this condition.

The man was of medium build and thin as a thread. He exuded an air of calmness but gave off an image of danger and caution.

“You’re the Duke Kaminashi. You’re trying to steal something from my land, eh?”

Enraku bared his teeth, giving off an intimidating impression. The attitude, which even makes Masatoshi feel like dying, is not like Enraku’s. It was a mixture of acting.

However, the man known as Duke Kaminashi brushes off this intimidation like a gentle breeze, and only his mouth turns into a smirk.

“As the head of the army, I need to retrieve the dangerous monsters. I also have to investigate what happened.”

“I don’t think so. This land belongs to Duke Aguni. I can’t let you mess with it. I completely understand your desire to obtain the monster’s corpse.”

“I don’t care how you take it.”

The quiet, quiet voice of Kaminashi contrasts with the rough and rugged Enraku.

“Father, don’t you think it would be better to compromise without asking too much?”

Next to the middle-aged man stood a boy the same age as Masatoshi. He seemed to be following along.

Masatoshi gulped.

He was said to have dark hair, dark eyes, an ordinary face, and no outstanding talent. When he puts on a serious face, he’s a handsome boy with a talent that no one can match.

The protagonist of the magical night, Kaminashi Shin, was standing there.

“Wait, both of you. It looks like something used high-level magic. We need to join forces to investigate here, don’t we?”

Teijo Ouga appeared. And behind him, Yamiyo, a reincarnated person, and Miu, who was supposed to die in the original story, followed.

And behind them were a large number of warriors.

Masatoshi was in a cold sweat when things got complicated.
