Chapter 252: Control

"My lord," the Minion began, his voice steady and controlled, "he has people of such immense power that they can easily match the raw force of your own minions. This man has been experimenting with people for years, sending them to alternate realities with vastly different atmospheres. After thousands of years in these alternate realities, evolution takes its course and transforms these people into monsters of all kinds."

I felt a surge of anger boil within me as the Minion spoke of their power. I was overcome with frustration at my own lack of power, and I felt powerless against this man and his army of monsters. I needed to know what our next move would be, what I could do to avoid a battle with these two monsters. "What should I do now?" I asked, desperation creeping into my voice.

The Minion hesitated for a moment before replying. "They could leave their kingdom at any moment and come for you," he warned. "You must flee this area, or they will come and find you."

I had no allies, no one to turn to for help. Even if I did have allies, they would not be powerful enough to stand against these monsters. I was wracking my brain for a plan when Chloe spoke up. "Should we go to Howard City?" she suggested. "We have taken control of it and now we can move there. We also have an outpost nearby where we can station some of our army to keep us informed of any incoming attacks."

Her suggestion was sound, but Howard City was far from safe. There was limited space for everyone, and the city was vulnerable to attack. Nonetheless, it was our only option. I told Chloe to inform the people of this city of our plans and to make preparations for a move. She hesitated, "What if they don't want to go? What if they choose to side with these new kings instead?"

I sighed, "You must tell them the reality of these attackers," I said firmly. "They are not like me. They don't need new people, they will simply kill them and leave their women behind. They are the most ruthless kings in this land, and anyone who stays behind will surely meet their doom. Don't reveal our destination to them, simply make them ready to move." I sent Chloe on her way, watching as she made her way towards the residential area to spread the news.

I summoned 100 archer minions to the weaponry, eager to arm them with the weapons that would ensure their success in battle. The crossbows I provided them with were the perfect choice to combat the massive enemy that was marching towards us. With the archers armed and ready, I positioned them on the inner wall, carefully arranging them in a formation that would protect the city at all costs. To ensure maximum safety, I stationed a lookout on the high tower, tasked with keeping a watchful eye on any enemy movement.

In addition to the archers, I also left a contingency force behind, consisting of 50 warrior minions and 50 brute force minions. These warriors were powerful enough to take on the brute force minions, providing added defense to the city in the event that the enemy arrived before the city was fully evacuated.

With all my minions in place, I made my way back to my house, eager to prepare myself for battle. I donned my armor, feeling its weight settle comfortably on my body, and took a moment to gather my thoughts. I knew that in any battle, the minions should always be on the front line, but this time I felt an urge to join them in the fight, to face the enemy head on and protect my home. However, I understood the importance of strategy, and so I forced myself to remain in the back, ready to provide support where needed.

As I made my way to the residential area, I found the people slowly making their way towards the tunnel that would lead them to safety. I had brought a horse for myself and one for Chloe, and I urged the people to hurry, reminding them that time was of the essence. I had also deployed several intelligence minions to guide the people through the tunnel, and I had sent my guard minions to protect them, as their safety was my top priority.

Just as the last of the people were entering the tunnel, the alarm bell rang, its piercing sound indicating that the enemy was just five minutes away. I instructed the intelligence minions to communicate with everyone and make sure they remained quiet, and as the voices of my people faded, I could hear the enemy getting closer, their roars and chants growing louder by the second.

The sound of the enemy was like nothing I had ever heard before, a chaotic chorus that echoed like the roar of animals in a jungle. I could only imagine how their approach must have sounded to any potential enemy, and I knew that their sheer volume alone was enough to make even the bravest warrior surrender. But I refused to surrender, and as the enemy stopped at the first wall, I made sure that all of my minions were safely inside the tunnel before entering it myself.

Two brute force minions were left behind, tasked with closing the tunnel and defending it against the enemy. I could have taken them with me, but I knew that the sacrifice of leaving them behind would send a message to the enemy, making them believe that we were weaker than we actually were. And with that, I took one last look at my city, tears in my eyes as I said goodbye to what I had built and protected for so many years. And then, I stepped into the tunnel, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
