About Food is the God of the People 2 Part 1

Yang Han was sitting on pins and needles.

Liu Zuo Ye saw that she looked a little off and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Right now, Yang Han really wanted to turn around to look at that two artistic performers, to confirm whether it was the two people she knew. But she was also afraid that if after she confirmed it, she would have a mental breakdown.

What the hell were that two doing here?

Liu Zuo Ye laughed a little, “Little princess, are you tired?”

Yang Han looked up at her and shook her head in a hurry.

Yang Han said, “Don’t call me little princess…”

Liu Zuo Ye: “You don’t like it?”

Yang Han: “It’s a little childish.”

Liu Zuo Ye: “Oh.” She continued, “I thought you all liked being called ‘princess’ or ‘young master’.”

Yang Han laughed a little.

She bought a bottle of fruit juice. The water droplets condensed on the cold bottle cap. It wasn’t that she couldn’t unscrew the cap, but it was simply too slippery so she tried several times but to no avail. After casually wiping her hands on her jacket, she tried again.

Liu Zuo Ye took the bottle and helped her open it, again.

Yang Han suddenly felt a little embarrassed. Liu Zuo Ye had just praised her earlier for being ‘braver’ than the other young masters, yet she exposed her weak image in front of her, where she couldn’t even unscrew a bottle cap. Twice.

Yang Han took it back and thanked her. She hesitated a little while holding onto the juice bottle for a while before saying, “Actually, I can unscrew it on my own.”

Liu Zuo Ye glanced at her and suddenly smiled. “I’ll buy another bottle and you try again?”

“No need…” Looking at Liu Zuo Ye’s smile, Yang Han froze up and blinked a little, then returned the smile.

The waiter brought out plates of sliced meat and other ingredients as Yang Han skilfully began her performance. She rolled up her sleeves and made herself busy for a bit. When she looked up, she saw Liu Zuo Ye who had just been watching her.

“Aren’t you going to eat?”

Liu Zuo Ye: “I’m not hungry.”

Yang Han: “Then I’ll pay for all of these…”

“It’s fine to split it equally.” Liu Zuo Ye said, “Maybe I’ll be hungry in a while after watching you.”

Yang Han laughed.

At this time, Liu Zuo Ye placed her arms on the table, pursed her lips together for a moment before seriously saying, “Yang Han, let me ask you something.”

Yang Han’s chopsticks stopped in mid-air. The time had finally come. She put down the meat in her hands, stared at Liu Zuo Ye and asked, “What is it?”

Liu Zuo Ye said, “I heard from others that…Han Shi Yu is your dad?”

Yang Han was stunned for a moment, subconsciously shook her head before realizing what she did and nodded instead.

“……” Liu Zuo Ye said, “Is it yes or no?”

Yang Han stammered over her words, “That…”

“I found out through Shang Xue. Don’t worry. I asked him but he didn’t tell me.” Liu Zuo Ye said honestly, “But he tried to cover it up too clumsily, so it made me suspicious instead. I also inquired about Lu Yue Ming and the class monitor’s matters with you…in the end I managed to guess it.”

Yang Han clutched the edges of her skirt with her fingers. After being silent for a while, she said, “Yeah…”

Surprise flashed past Liu Zuo Ye’s eyes as she leaned back in her seat and said, “It’s quite unbelievable.” But the ripples of emotions on her face faded really quickly as she accepted the fact.

“Little princess,” she asked with a slightly more expectant tone, “If you don’t find this rude, can you…bring me to meet him?” She then added, “Only as a classmate who’s visiting your house, I mean. I’ll only take a quick look. It’s okay if you do mind it though.”

Yang Han looked at her and held her breath.

She thought to herself, that if she allowed it and told Liu Zuo Ye to tilt her head up now, look over at her 3 o’clock direction, in about 10 meters, she would likely spot an idiot.

That idiot had an 85 percent chance of being Han Shi Yu. The remaining 15 percent was because she couldn’t believe the other one would be Yang Mo.

If someone had filmed this down, the hot search topic this afternoon would probably be # Han Shi Yu, why did you give up on treatment? #

Liu Zuo Ye saw her expression and thought she wasn’t willing to. So she lowered her gaze, not wanting to force it anymore and said, “I was only kidding…”

“You can come,” Yang Han blurted out, “He doesn’t mind other people paying attention to him at all.”

Liu Zuo Ye blinked a little before replying, “Oh…thanks.”

Yang Han suddenly started emitting a sense of misery.

She had imagined it before, that she was like a heroine with a confused life, where she only wanted to live an ordinary life but! ‘Fate’ that no one can go against, made her slip up in her disguise. People would approach her with different motives, causing her life to become dazzling with paper and gold, the victim to the power of gentry…

But the truth was telling her – wake up.

In her surroundings were a group of high school students who put on their glasses and bury their faces in textbooks for knowledge, take off their glasses and they would be struggling on their way to the cafeteria, have endless test papers to work on after class and endless small talk chattering in class.

The high school students in Japanese anime could trigger their superpowers to save the world. In romance stories, the female characters would be proficient in 8 languages and become intimate with 5 other male characters in an instance. Yet, her group of friends were a group of messy-haired kids who didn’t wear makeup and had to wear school uniforms outside their casual clothes.

The most remarkable thing to them was thinking about what to eat for lunch during class – and be on guard for any flying chalks.

Gentry feuds had nothing to do with such a group of people for the rest of their lives.

But when there really was someone who approached her after finding out her identity, Yang Han realized again that these people’s target wasn’t her at all. They were coveting her two dads instead.

She could understand why Lu Yue Ming worshipped Yang Mo because of his love for programming. But why did Liu Zuo Ye wanted to see Han Shi Yu?

She felt like Liu Zuo Ye wasn’t one that liked joining in the fun like a busybody who wanted to witness the real person after hearing about some rumours.

Yang Han asked, “Why do you want to meet him?”

Liu Zuo Ye: “…I want to thank him.”

Yang Han: “Thank him?”

Seeing that the sliced meats were already cooked, Liu Zuo Ye took her chopsticks and picked up a piece, putting it in Yang Han’s plate before picking one up for herself.

She said, “I’m from a single-parent family.”

Yang Han looked at her.

Liu Zuo Ye continued, “When I started understanding what was going on, I have not seen my father around anymore. It has always been my mom raising me, in our old hometown at the countryside.”

“When I was 11, I met my godfather, who continuously sponsored us. I would often hear the name Han Shi Yu from him and learned that Han Shi Yu also donated a lot of money to us. Seems like my godfather and Han Shi Yu were classmates.”

One would sometimes wonder if such things known as fate were real and existing. Otherwise, how could she form such connections subtly with other people without even realizing it?

Yang Han digested all these information for awhile before saying, “What a coincidence”

Liu Zuo Ye: “Mhmm.”

Yang Han said with admiration, “What does your mom work as?”

“Used to be a driver.” Liu Zuo Ye said, “But she stopped doing it and became a farmer at home.”

“Ohh,” Yang Han smiled, “Can I ask what is the name of that godfather of yours? Maybe I will know him.”

Liu Zuo Ye answered, “Xie Chen Min.”

“Ah.” Yang Han blinked.

She had indeed met him before.

The calligraphy of her essay that was hung at home as if it had been enlightened before – that was the one Han Shi Yu asked this person to write. His name was written at the bottom of the calligraphy.

She could still remember it clearly.
