Chapter 9.1 - About Gong and Shou 1 Part 1

It was a romance movie starring a popular young actor. Although his acting was bad, fans found it really touching. The people sitting in front bawled their eyes out and after the movie ended, they were still sighing at the aftertaste it left behind.

Yang Mo didn’t understand it.

Lu Yue Ming didn’t absorb a single thing.

Yang Han thought it wasn’t fun to watch.

From two hours ago, the second Yang Mo took his seat, Lu Yue Ming’s nervousness never once stopped. With his fingers curled up, he appeared to be more restless than he would be in an interview.

The credit scene rolled, lights came on, people all left except the three of them sitting in the same spot.

Yang Han asked, “Aren’t you guys leaving?”

Yang Mo and Lu Yue Ming were both occupied with their own thoughts. Only after they were called by Yang Han did they suddenly come back to their senses, standing up at the same time.

Yang Han took a clearer look at their clothes, blinked a little before saying, “You two look a lot like father and son.”

Yang Mo: “…….”

Lu Yue Ming: “…….”

The two of them shared a look with each other and Lu Yue Ming smiled awkwardly.

Yang Mo asked, “Where are you two going next?”

Yang Han replied, “It’s getting late so I’ll eat dinner with Xiao Lu at the mall.”

Yang Mo actually really wanted to find a reason to stay, but he couldn’t make up any natural reason for that on the spot, so he held it in and said, “…Alright.”

Lu Yue Ming took the initiative and suggested, “U-Uncle…won’t you come along with us?”

Yang Mo looked at him.

There was a very famous theory in the romantic universe – that when you spent a long time together with the person you like, the two of you would resemble each other more and more.

Yang Mo took a sip of the iced coke given by Lu Yue Ming and reflected deeply on himself.

The series of actions he had done today could be concluded as: acting on intuition and thinking his plans were faultless while onlookers could tell it was actually extreme stupidity instead – or in other words, it could be defined as Han Shi Yu’s behavior.

But now that Yang Mo had calmed down, he was calmly assessing the situation.

Lu Yue Ming wasn’t here to snatch his cabbage away, he thought to himself. After all, no boy would invite the girl’s father out for lunch together at such a time if he had that intention in mind.

Unless he lost his mind due to nervousness.

But Yang Mo felt like Lu Yue Ming wasn’t a child who could do such a thing either.

Furthermore, he noticed Lu Yue Ming kept trying to get closer to him along the way, clumsily finding topics to talk to him and ended up casting Yang Han aside.

Fortunately, Yang Han was really dense. While listening to Lu Yue Ming chat with Yang Mo, she managed to keep herself occupied and entertained at the same time. If it was any other girls who were more sensitive here, the cleaner auntie would need to step in to sweep up the broken pieces of their heart instead.

Yang Han complained that they were walking too slowly, so she made them sit down on a bench and wait until she found a good store before turning back to call them along.

Before she left, Yang Han bought two drinks and handed one to each of them. She told them to get along with each other, have a good chat and don’t go anywhere else.

After Yang Han left, Lu Yue Ming’s expression began to turn unnatural. He sat upright beside Yang Mo and his ears were bright red.

Yang Mo: “……”

Why did it look like he was dating Lu Yue Ming instead?

Yang Mo who had just finished a can of coke couldn’t quite stomach another drink in his hand. He glanced at Lu Yue Ming and asked, “Are you not from this province?”

“Ah,” Lu Yue Ming answered in a hurry, “I…My home is in Qingdao.”

Yang Mo raised an eyebrow at him, “Oh, what a coincidence. Me too.”

Lu Yue Ming was a little surprised. He looked up and asked, “Aren’t you a local? I remember it was written on Baidu1 that you…are from the south.”

Yang Mo wasn’t aware of how that information was stated on Baidu, since he never did things like searching himself up.

Yang Mo: “I was born in the south. My parents worked and lived in the north so I settled and grew up there.”

Lu Yue Ming smiled, “I also moved here because of my parents’ work.”

Yang Mo looked at his gentle smile and asked, “You don’t look a lot like the people there…Do you drink?”

Lu Yue Ming blinked a little, then lowered his head and smiled, “Regretfully, I haven’t tried it.”

“You have to believe it,” Yang Mo said, “That your drinking capacity should be quite big. It’s the genes your hometown gave you.”

Lu Yue Ming laughed out, “Alright then, I’ll give it a try in the future.”

Yang Mo remembered it especially well. The first time he drank was when he was in university.

He won his first battle, which was against Han Shi Yu who self-proclaimed to be the unbeatable and unparalleled drinker. Han Shi Yu ended up dead drunk as he competed with Yang Mo.

He vomited while calling Yang Mo as big brother, saying he concede defeat.

As to why the memory was still fresh on his mind.

It was because the man with the surname ‘Han’ followed some crappy advise posted on the internet and used the reason of being drunk to do a little ‘something’2 with him.

Yang Mo: “It’s better to wait until you’re an adult before trying after all.”

Lu Yue Ming nodded as the tension in the air eased up a little. He rubbed his fingers together before saying, “Uncle…”

Yang Mo found it a little strange all this while, “Am I that old?”

“No, no, no…” Lu Yue Ming was flustered again, “Because you’re Yang Han’s father, so it’s a little more appropriate to call you ‘uncle’…”

Yang Mo noticed he had been acting very restrained so far, so he tried to help him relax a little, “I only asked casually. Feel free to do what you want.”

Lu Yue Ming gathered up the courage but still didn’t dare to look straight at Yang Mo. Even his neck was red when he asked, “Uncle, can I add your WeChat?”

Yang Mo: “?”

At this time, Yang Han returned. She pulled the two of them along and ran towards the store she chose, saying there would be no more seats if they were late.

When they got home at night.

Yang Han took of her shoes and entered the house. Yang Mo took off his cap as well and hung it on the coat rack.

Yang Mo took one step into the house and immediately heard her daughter lecturing him in a profound tone, “Dad, from now on, just ask me directly if there’s anything in your mind. Our relationship is close enough for that. There’s no need to follow me in secret. I’m already this old, I can take care of myself.”

Yang Mo: “……”

He stood still on the spot, looked at Yang Han and noticed what her eyes were implying.

""

‘Actually, I knew all along what you were up to, but I did not expose you out of kindness’.

She knew very well how to protect the self-esteem of her parent.

Yang Mo wanted to say something, but he couldn’t find any words to reply with.
